This is a fantastic price and includes the lens + 12 Month guarantee...voted hot by me. I've used Argos Ebay Outlet many times and can vouch that they are a reliable outfit.

Original Poster

I've used their outlet store to, never had a problem. You can use Quidco, will save a couple of quid through ebay.

Much cheaper than everywhere else I looked :-)

looks good

Great Price, I have always avoided the Ebay outlet.

I just got the Sony Alpha A230 for £213 (inc postage) on eBay.

And there were some of these Sonys for £249.99 (inc del) with 12 month warranty. These were Sony approved refurbs.

Only mention this because from what I have seen the Sony got better review than the D60 for sale here.

Good deal though.

Not a VR lens.

Nota Bene: this only applies to *new* NIKON items. This camera is new, so there shouldn't be any probs at all!

good price, but it is a Nikon I'd be tempted to plump up a bit more and get the 12Mp Canon 450D... you can often find it in bundles with 2 lenses

At this focal length that doesn't matter too much.

lol i did wonder if that might spark a debate they're all much of a muchness these days anyway... down to personal preference and the feel of the camera/lenses i guess. When i tried out a Nikon it just didn't feel right in my hands, plus the kit lens was quite chunky!

In the sub-400 quid range there isn't a clear winner at all.
Sony, Nikon and Canon all make some very good SLRs, each with their own advantages.
I'm very happy with my A350 (I love the live view and folding screen for example) but I know the others have a bit better noise levels in low light situations.

You should get plenty of use from any of the market leaders, especially at this sort of price.

I'd be surprised if you got the cashback, also.. I bought a Nika D40 from them a while back from the store itself and it had a smudge on the glass inside of the camera.

Hot. Great camera for the money.

As you can plainly see, Canon users are just nut the right sort of people ...

If I weren't after a DSLR with HD-Recording, I'd be snapping this up for sure.

Probably worth waiting for the Nikon D3100 then. It's already come down to £520 and it isn't even on sale yet! uk.insight.com/app…0KU
It will probably drop quite a bit further once it starts shipping in quantity.

each to their own...

Dr Zoidberg is right though, you need to spend a lot of money to start noticing huge differences... also the lenses make a massive difference. The Canon 18-55 (non IS or non VR) kit lens is good... but not great... i don't know if this is the same for Nikon/Sony... it might be worth getting this good price camera and spending what you saved on a more expensive lens... £££££££££££

WOW HOT!

Not sure about this lens, but I have a D60 with the 18-55 VR kit lens and it's very nice. I've swapped it out my setup now though.

I carry a 35mm prime and 55-200. VR is useful on the zoom but faster glass is much more useful for a wide lens.

Not a bad deal, shame that prices haven't dropped incredibly though - I got my brand new D40 for £220 almost 2 years ago now!
Brilliant camera though, similar to the D60 and I love mine to bits. Recommend going to Jessops or something and trying out a few models, for example I couldn't get on with the Alpha series, but the D40 seemed just right for me.

could someone explain to a pleb what this does?

thanks

could someone explain to a pleb what this does?thanks

It stands for Vibration Reduction... It basically allows you to take images with a slower shutter speed without the need for a tripod... obviously there is a point at which you need a tripod, but generally you can get a lower shutter speed with VR... other companies call it IS (image stabilisation) etc, but it's effectively the same thing...

Nikon VR Info

Vibration reduction. It compensates for shaky hands which is obviously useful in low light.

However if you're trying to capture people, VR won't help if they move only a faster lens (look for the ones with smaller f values) will help then.

Vibration Reduction. It helps to reduce blurring when shooting indoors without a flash etc.
I brought a D60 for my first SLR, very happy with it.

Stands for Vibration Reduction, you can reduce your shutter speed by up to four stops, meaning you can use slower shutter speeds while being held in the hand
It's not magic, but it certainly is useful! Wouldn't cry over the lack of it though

Here are some examples with my D40, and the same 18-55mm lens:

As demonstrated by the pics above, you don't need VR to get some good results... it really is focused on low-light shooting or slow shutter speeds without a tripod. Don't be put off by it not having VR...

By plump up a bit more? You mean a couple of hundred??? Because a couple of hundred is just loose change in everyones pockets....

If I got this would the lens that fit on this also fit the more pro nikon cameras such as the d90?

Hot, i bought one of these and it got me an A in my first year of a photography A-level. Smashing starter kit DSLR. You could gripe about the lack of internal motor for the body but it is what is, a good starter camera for anyone who wishes to get into the the world of Photography.
