Excellent price for this bundle. Body alone is £379.97 (with discount voucher) so only only £100.00 for the lenses. I know they aren't nikkor lenses but Tamron and Sigma are good value for money. I've got the D80 and have a 55-200mm Sigma lens and I'm very happy with both.

Voted hot by me.

Nice find!

Not voting hot or cold. For anyone who doesnt know there SLRs and arent looking to progress then get taken in by a tamron lens. Personally Canon first, Nikon second but hold out for a decent nikon with nikon or sigma lenses.......tamron are ****.

I'd rather buy a D40 with better lenses than a D80 with cheap lenses, personally.

Can't argue with that bundle being good value though.

No they aren't.

Sorry but have to agree yes they are if your serious about image quality.

Marc

Not bad camera, but terrible lenses. 3.5 to 5.6 what is that?!!
Slower than a snail !!!
In the end will be grain all over the pictures.

Why bother recommending Canon lenses for a Nikon camera? Canon is for Canon - full stop.

And if you're really bothered about image quality, buy a better DSLR - Tamron lenses are perfectly adequate for the kind of user that's buying a D80.

You are clearly ignorant on this matter, yes Tamron make some poor quality lenses but they also make some exceptionally good lenses. Take their 90mm macro lens - this lens is exceptionally sharp and produces beautiful bokeh. The 17-50mm F/2.8 is also very good indeed and at less than a third of the price Nikon 17-55mm F/2.8 is the right choice for most unless you are a pro/rich.

That is the usual sweeping statement I would expect here, and I'm sure you really do know more about photography than Thom Hogan... See the bottom of this page bythom.com/105…htm  I know that is only one lens, but lets leave out the generalisations. ;-)

I followed the link and searched the Jessops website but can not find this deal, has it expired?

Nikon D80 is a superb camera fractionally beating the Canon EOS in most reviews when it was launched (albeit by only 1 or 2%). The AF-S 18-55mm f3.5-5.6 VR with it's vibration reduction got an excellant review at DPreview.com

"Nikon have taken what was already a good lens and made it even better.... in conclusion, this is a small, lightweight and versatile lens, which deserves a place in every DX-shooter's bag, and earns a recommendation for sure."

Can't say much about the Tamron, but as part of a bundle at this price it's not a bad deal to get you started. I personally use the Nikon AF-S 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 VR but then that's £300.

I agree with you. Tamron has good lenses but not this one:whistling:

agreed :-D

Well I reckon it's a pretty hot deal.

D80 + 18-55 VR is £450 so you are getting the Tamron for £30. The 18-55 VR lens is pretty good for a kit lens. Even if you think the Tamron is a **** lens it's well worth £30 as it will tide you over for a few months until you can afford a better piece of glass - and you should be able to get your money back for it on ebay.

The D80 body is a good piece of kit - better than the budget buys and compatible with most old Nikon lenses.
For anybody considering DSLR photography as a serious hobby it will be a much better bet than a £250 D40.

I'm surprised to hear so many people **** off tamron. They make some excellent lenses and tend to be far better value compared to the 1st party lenses.

the 55-200mm is suposed to be pretty decent but not top tier.

As a Sony user i've got the tamron 17-50mm f2.8 & 90mm f2.8 macro and they are top tier performers - you would have to spend 2-3x the money to get any meaningful performance benefit from the 1st party lenses.

I also have the (tamron made) sony 18-250mm and it's the best 1 lens travel solution.

anyway don't take my word for it see some tests photozone.de/nik…sts
