This almost NEVER goes below £200 - and Amazon's actually the cheapest UK supplier at the moment anyway - thanks to "Terminal" for pointing out the Nikon cashback deal (which is an Prepaid visa card for £25) and this makes this an incredible £185.85 for what is generally considered the best Nikon flash unit for the price.

EDIT: Make sure you select to order from Amazon.co.uk on the right hand side - the £199.99 seller is third party, thus not eligable for cashback.

Thanks. Heat added. Searched around for details of the cashback deal. Details on Nikon website. Looks like the cashback is paid through a prepaid Visa card rather than an Amazon voucher.

Not sure where the Amazon voucher is mentioned. They need copy of an invoice as evidence and so might be able to buy from elsewhere if it is cheaper so long as they send you an invoice? Marketplace sellers may not send you an invoice though.

Thanks for pointing out the visa!

It's unfortunately not cheaper anywhere else for a UK model - which is the requirement that you purchase a UK edition to be eligible for cashback. The cheaper sellers on Amazon are (despite being called something ridiculous like 'London shop') are actually based outside the UK. The 199.99 seller is in the US!

The cashback deal is valid till sometime Feb isn't it? I'm wondering whether to wait and see if the price comes down more before then. This whole cashback thing on certain bits reeks of newer models being launched.
Good price but don't think the SB-700 supports auto / aperture priority mode that the SB-900/910 supports. Won't be needed by everyone but this is a useful mode to have if you want more 'manual' type control over the flash.

Very true - there is a SB 910 so a 710 or similar in the making?

Very true - there is a SB 910 so a 710 or similar in the making?

I wouldn't think so, 900 had over heating issues, which is why the released 910 almost immediately.
700 is quite good, so would expect a couple of more years of production life..
is this worth getting for a d2300

what will the flash do? what is worth using for? weddings?
ah great thank you that is useful to know...

i am new, but want to lear, sb 400 seems a better choice..
Best price presently but I got mine from Amazon a while back for £180.
I read somewhere the SB400 is being discontinued but still a good flash.

The SB-910 was released over three years after the SB-900 which I wouldn't call 'almost immediately'

It's 1000 times better than the built in flash... Unless you have a really fast lens for indoor it's the only way to get natural shots without using really high iso

There's a wide variety of uses for a flash but basically it's useful when the available light isn't good enough, primarily when you are taking photos indoors. Frequently when shooting inside the lighting may not be sufficient so you end up having to shoot at a low shutter speed and a high iso but can still end up with a blurry photo that doesn't look very good because the lighting isn't covering the peoples faces. Onboard flashes aren't very good as they are close to the lens, not very powerful and they're small so they produce a very harsh unflattering lighting effect which understandably many people don't like. The SB-700 is a good choice for the D3200 as it has a flexible head and it's a good size, the Sb-9xx is quite a bit more expensive and it's quite bulky even on the bigger cameras. The advantage of a dedicated flash is that it's much further from the lens (less redeye), more powerful and you have a lot more control over it so you can have a softer, diffused lighting effect. Good use of a flash can make a big difference to the photo although it can take a bit of patience to get good with the flash.

Of course it depends what you're shooting, if you're not finding lighting an issue at the moment with your photography then a flash is unlikely to help you much.

great price but I don't think it supports the auto mode which is useful if you want more control over your flash photography.

Its a speed light, so its for capturing high speed mainly, but the flash … Its a speed light, so its for capturing high speed mainly, but the flash could be used to replace the on camera flash for greater range and area coverage. but mainly you would use this for taking higher speed SR with this, great for sports or water droplet capture etc.personally its bit over the top for the D3200 if your just amaturing around id recommend the SB400, but the 400 doesnt have a horizontal adjustment, making bouncing difficult but can be done with some white card.SB400
