Just announced with a retail price that makes it super hot for Christmas in my eyes! Probably will get cheaper than game but only place at the moment sadly.

Introducing the newest member of the 3DS family – the Nintendo 2DS!

The Nintendo 2DS is a new touchscreen tablet that plays all your 3DS games. The second screen may not offer 3D, but you can still enjoy all the same games, downloads and online fun – and at a fraction of the price this is a great way to enjoy gaming on a budget.

The Nintendo 2DS comes in two colours – White and Red or Black and Blue – and includes a charger and a 4GB SD card.

£110 for a 2ds ? the 3ds XL has been around that price before.

The 2DS is 3D free.

The 2DS is 3D free.

Meaning suitable for under 8s!

Looks awful. Was hoping for a new 3DS model at some point instead of this

Are they for real? They'd have done much better giving the 3DS XL a price drop and adding a "turn 3D off" function that trying to charge so much for a stripped down version of a normal size 3DS. Can't help but notice from that preview screen and the fact they're describing it as a tablet that it doesn't look like it folds up either.

When?

tablet???

looks to me like a rehashed, non-folding, non 3D, non XL, repackaged, ridiculously priced, incorrectly named 3ds emulator.

no wonder nintendo make losses.

adding a "turn 3D off" function.

All of the 3DSs produced so far have had this. Just push the slider to off.

Bad move Nintendo! What ya doing?!?!?

does this have any advantage over the 3ds what so ever?

Pull it together nintendo! I was hoping for a new 3ds model but instead we get a portable console which wouldn't even fit in the world's largest pocket. I suppose this is good for young children but I wish they'd designed something better

The only thing that should be an advantage is the price, but even that isn't great

I think it's going to be aimed at younger children, with no hinges to break it makes it ideal for young kids but then there isn't exactly a great range of games for the younger ones. I can't help but feel this is Nintendo's take on the Innotab or Leappad and come up short

Comes built in with a mono speaker whats is this the 80s.
You can get a 3ds for cheaper if you shop around.
Could of been a hit is it was £75.

This looks poo.

That has to be the most disgusting console I have ever seen (not literally, but for the point I'm making, let's pretend). The buttons are placed way too high that you'll be looking under them to see the bottom screen, and the fact that it doesn't close just makes it look weird.

I'm sorry Nintendo, but as big of a fan as I am, I cannot support something as stupid as this.

The Gameboy Micro was a pointless console with a tiny screen, and no Gameboy compatibility, and the Wii Mini had no Wifi, no Gamecube support and was barely even "mini" compared to the Wii. Both of them came out for around the same price you could pick the older but better value consoles for.

Nintendo we are in August. You are late even for an April Fools day joke!

Get with the times you should have a 3DS XXXXXXXXXXXXXL by now and not taking 40 steps backwards wtf?

It is going to go Arctic cold here

It's design , this is the worst thing since the virtual boy lol

lol @ nintenturd

correct me if I am wrong but a Nintendo 3ds without 3d is called a Nintendo ds and they have been around for 7 years and you can pick them up second hand for around £30? Now somebody tell me if I am missing something, does this 2ds do something maybe online that the original ds does not do as all the 3d games seem to be available for the original in 2d with the only difference being that the game sticks out of the screen which this can not do.

I have been an Nintendo supporter ever since I was a child... But this takes things too far fr even me to defend.... Shame on you Nintendo, shame on you

Woah, getting a bit chilly.
I think a lot of people missing the point here. It's clearly going to be under £100 come Christmas which for a new ds is not a bad price. Not being able to fold is a null point because no body plays their 3ds closed do they? Having no 3d means it is good for children's eyes without them being able to turn it on. I agree that at the current price you could pick up a refurbed 3ds but it's certainly an alternative that I (apparently wrongly) thought some people would be interested to know about before they drop £140 for a 3ds which is about the current going rate.

just to add that looking at the picture, this does not fold in half so would be a **** to get in your pocket

looks like there will be no hinge for the kids to break

Might work well for toddlers but other than that its a pointless addition...

it looks really crap , bad move ninty

Technically the 3DS is suitable for under 8s, the 3D effect can be locked and purchase age is 7

Looks great imho

Don't see the point in this. I know people are saying it's good for children but it's not proven that 3d harms childrens eyes any more than 2d, the warnings are just to protect Nintendo from any possible legal claims.

The 3DS XL with NSMB2 was £120 from Amazon about 2 months ago hotukdeals.com/dea…867

How to have a Nintendo 2DS before launch!

I thought you would be skinnier.

Stupid control placement. That's gonna be a nightmare to actually use.

Original Poster

I take it no one else likes the button position then? I find on the current consoles that they get uncomfy twisting downwards at the top. This button placement will mean that this won't happen. Meh each to their own.
Interesting number of people not just complaining about the price - the old console is still available why make a new identical? I like it (not just because it's my deal).

This looks awful why bring this out I have no idea

Probably the worst gaming device I have ever seen. Totally pointless purchase Nintendo why?

You cant even fold it to put in your pocket or bag lol!

The 3DS games are not just 3D versions of DS games, the 3DS is a more powerful unit so the 3DS games are more advanced than the DS games even ignoring the 3D aspect and require the 3DS. It's confusing because some of the packaging is very similar between the two particularly with Mario Kart but the DS and 3DS versions are completely different games.

This is exactly why the calling the next-gen DS the 3DS was a bad idea. 2 years later and people still don't catch on. Nintendo's fault really...

At least a few people get it then!
Clearly not everyones taste, but that just means the price will drop quicker and I can get on board for less money. £75 in January sales anyone?!

That doesn't even make sense. You don't fold phones, tablet, psps etc. If your complaint is it is too large for a pocket then fine, but so is a 3ds xl and I wouldn't really recommend carrying a 3ds in your pocket either, not if you want it to last.
