Hot for me

What the hell is this?

If they are worried about 3d they can turn it off and wait it fits in a pocket this does not.

Form factor is horrendous. Nintendo seriously needs to wake up.

Depends how you look at it, if it is aimed at adults I concur, but for kids it is a masterstroke, no way would I let my lad use the 3D on a 3ds, and they are not easy to manage for young hands...

but this form factor, is great for young kids, looks a lot more robust as well

This tech makes no sense to me at all. Its for kids below 7 presumably as the 3D could potentially cause damage to their eyes. Kids under 7 will destroy the screens in five minutes because it doesn't fold thus acting as a protector when they're carrying it about.

The buttons are half way up rather than the usual location near the bottom. Smaller hands will have trouble with holding it this way my 4 year old copes quite well with the current one.

And last but not least. There are parental controls to disable the 3D on the current model so if your child still likes the 3DS and are nearing the required age to view 3D then you can re-activate it.

The price is the only thing good about it I guess.

Not trying to flame all over your post but it just doesn't make any sense. Also why the hell didn't they add a second analogue stick to it. there's more than enough room with it not folding! Nintendo are mental. I love them but they're mental

Excellent price, cheapest so far. I recently bought a 3DS but don't have any interest in the 3D element, I'm kicking myself a bit now!

Robust meaning heavier & likely to give kids weak wrists? Bad design with One screen (if it was easy replacable from getting scratched etc could have been a good thing, but the amount of plastic hiding the fact its one screen makes that doubtful).

Mono sound too...

niche item that undermines the whole point of the 3DS.. guess it gives games designers opting out of making 3D games and concentrate on no gimmicks again. If nintendo starts failing in the handhelds as well as the consoles it wont be long before we see Mario on other consoles.

load of ***** !

Im just still waiting for the 3DS XL to drop ridiculously low in price so i can get my hands on Ocarina Of Time !

Really?!?!

It's only a pound more at Game, so not a great price.

I don't quite get the hate for it - it's an optional model, I'm guessing from the wedge design Nintendo see kids as using it flat on the floor. It's not replacing anything, and for some people it will be a worthy buy - too lazy/unaware of parental controls, no hinge/fewer moving parts, cheaper at a theoretical RRP (seemingly)... not sure how many of these people there are, but no harm done - the regular 3DS and XL are still available from all good retailers!

just gonna get an XL, already got a 3DS and not fussed about 3D, makes me sorta trippy that my fingers are missing but flip screens are better suited, I can't see how the ar cards would work effectively on a flat console

The warnings on 3ds are only to protect Nintendo should any future research claim that 3d can harm a child's vision.

The American Optometric Association declared that 3D displays from movies, televisions, and video game systems like the Nintendo 3DS are not likely to have any negative impact on the long-term eyesight of kids under the age of six. The report also pointed out that children who do have trouble viewing 3D images may in fact have an underlying vision problem that should be dealt with right away.

This is just like the Xbox One again. Just because you have some sort of objection against the console doesn't mean you have to vote a good price cold.

That said, I can't see why you wouldn't just get a 3DS for a similar price.

Nintendo mis-step yet again.

They deserve to go down the route of SEGA by calling it a day and allow Sony, Microsoft and PC platforms to let their franchises have a secondary life. I have no sympathy for them whatsoever - tat product after product despite the promise of the Wii.

Hadouken!

You know how much money nintendo has right? They can make at least 5 more crappy generations and still be ok, they are going nowhere.

Absolutely. I just can't see them turning the ship around. Still stranger things have happened. Look what happened to Apple.

People said the same thing after n64 and gamecube, then the wii comes along and sells tonnes, the 3ds alone is enough to keep nintendo going.
The wiiu will come good in the long run but won't be competitive.

Some people have missed the point of the 2DS.
It's marketed towards children as the form factor means no broken hinges, plus you can play the 3DS games without having to pay out 170 on a 3DS.

Wouldn't be suprised if they made it splash proof too!

Don't think any ones missed that point other than Nintendo..If it was marketed towards children the whole point of a handheld is portability, especially for children. Facepalms.

You've missed the point. If the top or bottom section of the screen gets broken, the whole screen needs replacing. The lack of hinge repairs is countered by the increased cost in replacing one large screen as opposed to a small one on the normal 3DS (although a normal 3DS doesnt have exposed screens when not in use).

Eitehr way, another absolutely hilarious product from Nintendo once again.

That is horrible

This is only £1 off rrp- its $130 in the us.

I'm waiting for the 1DS....

the bit that makes me laugh is "DS" stands for Dual-screen so its technically called "two dual screen"

Don't see all the hate with Nintendo. They've made great consoles for generations that have last forever. My NES and SNES are still going strong after all these years. Same couldn't be said for my crappy PS3 that gets the YLOD after 2 years.

The deal: Probably about the cheapest out there but I suspect these will be about £110 + a good game come December time. Not hot or cold for me.

The 2DS: I actually really like the design. Looks solid, I always folded out my old DS to "flat" anyway, and found the hinges became loose. And mono sound? So what! Since when was the sound out of a handheld ever a big deal? Even my Vita isnt all that great.

Anyway, I think its actually a masterstroke by Nintendo. They dominate the handheld gaming market. The tech in the 3DS is probably at a level that they are making huge margins now. Sales will be slowing a tad so, why not have a stab at truly cornering the younger generation market? It wont harm Nintendo at all. My 4 year old son caught sight of me reading up on this and wouldnt shut up about wanting one. I know the screens will get a scuff or two but no worse than what he's done to my iPad (I've probably done worse...).

So, at very little real cost to Nintendo, they have put together what will be a system that will most likely produce even higher margins than the 3DS and XL models (no hinge, mono speaker, standard screens) and will, most likely, sell very well come Christmas. They have effectively given themselves breathing space and knocked back any need to reduce prices any time soon for the 3DS/XL. Nintendo might be making a complete erse of the the home console scene but they continue to nail the handheld market nicely.

At this sort of price point, this will sell very well at Christmas. I wasn't sold on getting my son a 3DS (not because of the 3D) but I wouldnt mind at all about getting him one of these. In fact, I'm tempted myself.
