I disagree; this is fantastic at this price. The switch is great too it’s in a different league but needs a hardware revision, bigger library and cheaper games to compete with the value of the 2ds xl currently.

Annoyingly though barely anyone will get this deal

These are quite easy to hack and the library is quite big.
Asda non grocery deals are never national. Great bargain for the op though.

Actually there is a hardware revision on the way, hopefully by the end of the year. Most likely a switch pro/xl and a cheaper switch.
Great find OP, wish it was national. Great library of games and game prices are reasonable now.

They are hugely outdated, and will no longer be supported by Nintendo by 2020. Yes they have a huge library of games, but old tech is old tech. If someone asked if I wanted an old original Gameboy to play, I'd say no. The Megadrive has a great library of games, but I wouldn't buy one of those either. This is the right price for them, and I added heat to the deal because of that. Great deal for young kids to have an hour here and there as a reward.

Great if this was national...

Switch is still way over-priced for such an under-powered device IMO; hopefully new revisions will be better value.
Good price for a great console!

Isn't the tech on the Switch outdated as well, even before it's release? A great game is a great game, no matter what. And there are a lot more great games on the 2DS/3DS than there are on the Switch.

While you're at it yes the Megadrive is still a great machine too, with a huge amount of great games.

I'd disagree.

The switch has an incredibly limited catalogue of big games and they are priced extortionately high. The DS range is absolutely huge and includes some absolute classics (all of which have probably been repacked up with a 'deluxe' ttle for the switch) as well as some stellar games from the 3DS library.

You will get a hell of a lot more entertainment for your money from this than a switch and it's a hell of a lot easier to play on the go.

I disagree, I have both consoles ( I have every Nintendo console). They're not even comparable, if you can afford the Switch then it's better in every way.

Comparing 3DS games to Megadrive games is ridiculous. These consoles have not yet been superceded. Nintendo released games for it until recently. Wonderful library of games

As quite a few of us have pointed out it clearly isn't better "in every way" as the catalogue of brilliant games on the 2DS/3DS blows the Switch out of the water. And it is much more portable. Add in to the mix that the games can be found at much better prices. Let's be right here that's what is really important as well, the games. The Switch obviously has more powerful hardware as it is newer but that is secondary to me, personally.

Good for you, clearly we all have different opinions. However I'm guessing anyone that owns both, has left the 2ds to gather dust. That is just how things work as technology progresses, hence you pay the premium.

Why does this have so much heat? No one has yet confirmed it as being nationwide and as for the original deal, the poster took all of the stock!

In my case you'd be wrong and probably more.
I've had a switch since launch and love it, but there is something about the DS and 3DS library to me that has more choice and nostalgia.

You have to consider the retro factor and cost, especially for people with young kids (like myself), form factor on the 2DS XL is much better for little hands.

I've recently purchased several 2DS XL's and around 30 ish games and I'm finding I use it more than my switch at the moment and the library is so much more diverse.

Other than you saying it was good for kids, every other comment you've posted on this thread has been negative or condensending. So no, it's not a focus for me at all just pointing out in my opinion (and from the looks of it mostly everyone else's) your views are not shared.

That's because you have Nintendo fans (like yourself) that hate to see things get criticised. I too am a Nintendo fan and I can see when something has lived its life, how many DS options have to be made before you think enough is enough? They've strung it on for over a decade and the technology is still basically the same. If you think Nintendo charging £130 for the privilege of a "New 2DS XL" is good, then more fool you. This deal as I mentioned is a good price for what is available, however it is the right price for what it is. Again the Switch (if you can afford it) is clearly the better option for a console and as a handheld console, that is where Nintendo is focusing their future at the moment. If a bunch of DS lovers want to argue the console to their grave, that is in their right.

£130 may be a bit on the pricey side for a 2DS XL now, but so is £280 for a NS. As previosuly stated of course the Switch is more powerful but the 2DS/3DS has a lot going for it that the Switch does not. "better" is not simply down to processing power. Proper games fans know that a great game, is a great game, it doesn't matter how old it is, or how powerful the hardware it was originally programmed for. How many of the best games of all time were released on older consoles than the current gen? The answer is the majority of them!

I have loved many older games, all the Zelda games were amazing (back in their day), would I play the Legend of Zelda on the NES now? No, definitely not... I absolutely loved all the classic RPGs on the SNES, like Secret of Mana, Chronotrigger, Final Fantasy V... Would I play them now? Maybe nostalgia would last me maybe an hour or so, then I'd realise how much they've aged. The same goes for the PS1 games like Alundra, Final Fantasy VII, Wild Arms, Breath of Fire 3... All of those "were" amazing in their day, but have aged beyond where playing them is comfortable for me. Others opinions may differ. I enjoyed them when they were great and that's what matters for me, I don't need to relive those memories.

If I know I can play games of this generation like Zelda Breath of the Wild, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 etc. why would I choose to go backwards in time?

Fair enough. Where I disagree though... is that everything that made those games great, still applies today. Zelda: A Link To The Past or SMW for instance, were not the best games because of the processing power of the SNES, they were just the best games period, and everything that made them great then, is still great today. They have not "aged badly" and haven't become "outdated" they simply don't look as bright and shiny as the latest and greatest. It doesn't mean they aren't as good, if not better than the majority of games being released today. Of course none of us have unlimited time on our hands, so can perfectly understand the desire to use that time to play the best games of today, rather than games from 5, 10 or even 30 years ago. But can anyone honestly say, that the latest FF games are even close to being as good as Final Fantasy VII though?
what no goose chase gif on this thread ? I specifically clicked on this thread expecting to see it

in all seriousness though, this is a great price if you can get it, I'd snap your hand off at this price

My son happily toggles between a 3dsXL and a switch every day. The game he's playing and what still has charge is the main decider.
The 3ds will likely wear out before he gives up on it. Not dead yet.
