They have the same deal in the Warrington store too.
Good price.

Though the sharp price drops do seem to show what an epic fail this device has been, lol.

I tested one for 5 mins the other day and started to get a headache!
Will be the norm price soon enough !
Cheap as chips now coss there ****...

Japanese video game specialist Nintendo is slashing the cost of its 3DS hand-held player following weak sales.

Yep this Friday is supposed to be the official price drop day but if you register before then you get like 20 classic games for free. Most are dropping the price early on purpose to get a big sales boost as they know people will buy now to get the games as you cannot get the games if you don't register by Friday.

why blame the device if your eyes/brain can't stand it? oO

they did a big mistake overpricing in the first place in a so depressed market, they had a lot of bad press too, but they are wise enough to reposition it just in time for the big titles releases and next christmas. we will see..

more like overpriced just like sony vita - it should have been £149.99 max on launch, vita should be £169.99 for 3g/wifi (why have 2 versions, stupid)

my sons cost me £123 inc a game - it is miles better than the ds lite and dsi though, then again i like the old ds lites simplicity, dsi was stupid and way too big

As i said when it was released. Nintendo are lazy, rehashing old games to sell at £30, using out-dated hardware with the 3d effect... I am glad they have finally seen the light, especially with Sony releasing the PSP vita. A true next gen portable that can decimate iPhone's and the 3ds.
Still if you do want 3d its a good price voting hot

i agree, i have 3 ds lites (family members), no dsi at all (no gba slot! two small step forward and a HUGE one backward for me) and now two 3ds that really improves on the original ds concept and the additional features of the dsi..

though... i'd love to buy a dsi XL just for the big screen and battery if the new 3ds price force down the XL price too

So? Sony and Microsoft have remastered their old games like Halo and God of War. Why can't Nintendo? The team who wanted to remaster Ocarina of Time stated that they wanted to have the original concept art as the new graphics style so they could of matched the graphics of Twilight Princess. They have only annouced/done 2 first party remakes so far for the 3DS. Maybe they will do a Majora's Mask aswell. I don't get why people get so mad when Nintendo want to remaster a game. It's true Nintendo totally messed up with the launch of the 3DS. But they are trying to fix it. The PSV/3DS will never compete with the iPhone, mainly because it ain't that "casual" or because there is app for that.

Anyway good price. I would say get it now as the free games you get are some timeless classics.

My point being Nintendo have increased competition in the market THAT is the only reason they are cutting the price. Especially from android and i devices,
Nintendo would happily farm old technology to gain more profits if they could. I find it aggravating because i believe large companies such as nintendo should invest in NEW ideas to push teh market forward. Sure 3d is new, so go pay £129 for it... U see what i mean?

Bah more I hear about prices the more I get annoyed. People are happy to pay premium for a smart phone which is always less powerful and your often paying for the badge *cough* Apple.

It is up to consumers now whether handheld gaming succeeds or fails. Whether they will want wiiware like junk like you have on itunes or you want fully features games which will cost the slight premium.

But please don't talk about price. The fact that people are making a noise about the PSV price because the 3DS price is being reduced also sickens me.

Anyway, extremely good price. If you are happy with the freebies that Nintendo is offering - mega heat. If your like me who isn't a big fan of the 'classics' - I would wait.

Plenty of anecdotal information on the internet that agrees with me...

I don't understand why people call this device an epic fail. It really annoys me. The device would be selling just fine even if the price didn't drop since the big hitters (super Mario 3DLand and Mario Kart 7) will be releasing this November/December.

The reason why the price has dropped down is due to many reasons. First of all, Nintendo haven't released a Wii or DS game in ages and thus the DS and Wii sales are dropping, Also, a lot of money has/is being spent on Wii U research and development etc. A lot of money was spent on R&D for the 3DS and advertisements. A lot of money was also spent on the new head quarters created not to long ago.

All of THIS has lead Nintendo to take drastic actions. The fact people wont buy this console because the 3D hurts their eyes is also a contributing factor even-though if you play with it for 30 mins you would realize that your eyes ADJUST to the 3D since your brain/eyes aren't used to the 3D. Also, the 3D can be turned off. Nintendo CEO Iwata wants this to be a true successor to the DS. He wants this to sell like hot cakes in order to get more software in peoples hands. Nintendo want to sell 16 million units by the end of this fiscal year. That is a lot.

This isn't a personal attack, so don't take it that way. Its just that people should understand the whole picture

yes, all of which from the same extensive test

if you're healthy the "headache" is just the brain adjusting to information delivered "in a new way" by the eyes. it's the same when you wear for the first time a new pair of specs.

actually most 3ds users are complaining about no more "wow" effect after been really used to it.

Good point. I already have a 3DS, 3D or not it is good console but the games out now are not really helping. Yeah it may not be as powerful as the Vita but to me I don't really care about graphics/spec but gameplay, I have played Zelda now for 40 hours compared to around 6 hours for Black Ops. The media really killed the console with all the headache crap. But a lot of big companies use old tech nowadays so there is nothing that can be done there. I mean Nintendo already had plans for a 3ds "lite" when the 3ds launch which really bugged me But the way Nintendo are going now I doubt we will see a "lite" yet. But your first post said that the PSV will do really well. I doubt it. Analyst are saying that Sony should lower the launch price to stand a chance to compete with others. Also Vita isn't gonna push the market foward aswell. Well I am just being doubtful. I guess I will wait till it releases.

I suppose my point is that, based on the specs rationale, any device that requires your eyes to adjust so fundamentally (compared to the way that eyes work by themselves) is bound to cause issues for people.

Anyway, I don't like the device personally, but plenty of people do; and as I said, this is a good price.
All the other consoles (PS3 + Xbox) Are using old hardware, currently waaayyy behind the PC Market due to no new full console releases, with slightly improved versions along the way, is this not the same for the DS? Yes.

The 3D component of the DS is never going to flop as much as the HD DVD did for the Xbox (I mean they aren't far off collectors already they were so poor)
Do any of the r4 type cards work on the 3ds. Thinking about upgrading from a mk1 D's and have tons of roms.
My 8 year old would like one of these for Christmas but unfortunately there are only 2 stores, none of them anywhere near us!!!

Not gonna happen, the 3DS is doing pretty well in its native market (took number one sales slot for a couple of weeks in July) and as long as it does it'll remain in production.

The problem is people compare the level of success to that of previous Nintendo consoles, when put against the post launch PSP or PS3 sales slumps, and considering the high pricepoint and the fact it isn't a replacement that makes its predecessors instantly redundant, the 3DS is about where it should be.

Once the summer games drought is over, the price is lowered and the better titles come out in the run up for Christmas, then we'll see whether it has the legs to cut it or not.
Edited by: "Kanedaaaaaa" 9th Aug 2011
People are always so quick to doubt Nintendo, but they really do know what they are doing. The sales actually aren't that much slower than the DS was, in the grand scheme of things - they're just lower than Nintendo had hoped. And all the "PSVita is going to destroy it" chat. Odd, I remember exaclty the same bull**** about PS3 and Xbox360 vs. Wii, and Nintendo still made a bucket load of cash. Similarly when the PSP was coming out people said it would destroy the DS, but that didn't happen, and the PSP is widely considered in the industry to be a complete failure, expecially if the PSPGo is taken into consideration.

In fact, Nintendo used to push the boat out with high spec hardware (see N64 vs. Playstation - 64-bit vs 32-bit - Nintendo Lost in spite of having the horsepower). Similarly look at Gamecube vs. PS2 vs. xbox, the clear winner was the PS2, in spite of being the least powerful of the three.

I'm not saying 3DS will be a runaway success, but it certainly wont get cancelled like one moron upthread is saying, and it's not being dropped because of the 'threat' of PSVita (which will be bought by the same people who bought PSP, got bored and never used them for anything other than portable media), it's because the market has forced Nintendo's hand to drop the price if they want to shift anything in the current economy, and when there aren't enough games to drive sales.

Many consoles in the past have had to put in similar price cuts because of competition, or to drive sales. It's not big deal, and it means bargains for us. I know I'm wasing my time even writing this, because the same idiots will pop up on the next 3DS thread, spouting the same tired misinformation but, heck, I'm bored.
Hot! Slick little machine, my brother has one. The 3d is nifty and can't beleive it is glasses free! British greed killed it over here with retailers gouging the prices, then came the crap software line up, the 3DS has a steep hill to climb, but with this lower price and lots of good games coming out I'm sure it will pull through. But for the moment I am happy enough with my DS Lite
I was at the Warrington store on Saturday & didn't see anything at a price that was less than a shop price. In fact I could safely say that I have never seen so much overpriced tat/cr*p in such a small area before !
2 stores in the whole country - Im surprised this is so hot
It's ludicrous to suggest the 3DS is going to be 'cancelled' - it's been out, what, 4 months?!?!?

As others have said, it launched at an odd time at too high a price and with no serious software support. Now Xmas is coming, the price is now reasonable and the software is most definitely coming - there are some fantastic looking games due this Autumn/Winter.
the award for stupidist comment of the week goes too baseley09 lol..there is no way on earth nintendo ill cancel the 3ds the 3ds has sold pretty well concidering how long its been out nintendo has done the wise move of dropping prices for a number of factors but the main one is were in a world recession people are spending money on luxerys such as consoles but if they drop the price or give good bundles people will be more inclinded to buy because its coming close to xmas and people like myself know that when it comes xmas some places will put prices up slightly .

another reason is bad marketing and bad press concerning 3ds the actual figures of returned consoles is very very small but newspapers and people whove never actually playede one more than 5 minutes keep shouting about headaches and other rubbish .nintendo could have nipped this in the bud straight away if they had better pr but they didnt they let it snowball and become a bigger urban myth than it actually is.the facts are any 3d effect can affect people in different ways myself find watching passive 3d movies very hard work and get eye strain but when i use my active 3dxl projector system i get no eye strain and get an amazing experience .
nintendo should do more to publise the facts and shoot down the myths ..if you dont like the 3d effect turn it down or turn it off either way the 3ds is much more powerful than the ds and is capable of amazing graphics another problem they have is poor game support but nintendo will hopefully rectify this as soon as they can.they need to create proper adult action games and more adults will buy it if they had a grand theft auto coming out on it it would shift lots as they did with the ds once it did china wars the console had big sales push once again.

It was released in Japan first, Nintendo got feedback from it and "had" plans for a redesign. Bigger screen, longer battery life and try to sort out the headache problem. In Japan it was released a month before everywhere else. And the claim I made was at one of the interview at E3 2010, where they say they may do a redesign but it depends on feedback, so if you can find the video/interview by all means. Obviously now they don't have plans on a redesign.

Edited by: "Jabs" 9th Aug 2011
Of course there will be a lite version, but not for a while. There are a few complaints with the current version like you get a mark on the top screen from just closing it as it touches the bezel on the lower screen and of course the battery.

I tried one out in GAME yesterday. You really need to have a go to understand it. I likened it to looking in a fish tank filled with crystal clear water; the graphics really do seem solid. The characters (Street Fighter) were like real puppets moving around.

I was thinking though, why would anyone go for the Vita which is just more of the same from the 1990's only with better graphics and a touch screen cobbled on as a cynical after thought, over the 3DS?

It boggles me how there are people out there who would buy a **** and defend it as 'better than anything from Nintendo' just because it has a Sony badge on it! Odd stuff...
