Is the 3d technology any good on these?

It's decent but it's easier to play games with it turned off.

Pretty much. With the 3D turned on the jagged edges of models become more apparent and the frame rate of the game drops, very noticeable in Pokemon. No gameIi have played, which includes Mario 3D Land, has required the 3D to function.

Bare in mind that I have had a black 3DS since launch day and I use it quite a lot.

It's not necessarily a gimmick. I find with some games the 3D really works and I enjoy having it on. With others I find it better to have it off. But that's the beauty of the slider so you can find your level.

Also, as a long standing Nintendo fan, it was worth me buying one of these just so I could have a portable version of legend of Zelda:ocarina of time. I've had endless hours on my 3DS and enjoyed them all. I bought it at launch for £115 so bundled with three games for £130 is great. Have some heat!

So may as we'll just have a ds?

it just gives you a headache. also just another way to make people pay more money for something they wouldn't use but if they didn't buy it they cant buy more games.

£115!?

I'm pretty sure it was double that at launch. Unless of course you used some reward points or credit to bring it down.

Nope. A DS is now outdated and can not play the newer 3DS games. The 3DS has better specs than the older DS besides the 3D technology.

Oh right. Well I'm not getting one now lol

Some levels of 3D Mario World are tricky without 3D.

I always play with the 3D on and it looks great. I've never had a headache.

nice find

Oh, hope to win one instead

i only paid that last year for my daugthers but worth every penny, but do have to agree the 3d part is a waste unless you are doing daft stuff with photos on it.

cool

If only I could pick my games! Don't want any of those!

this was £149.99 on saturday, so a price drop of £20. the 3 games were in the 3 for £20 section that expired on sat night.

I love the 3D effect. I have the 3DS XL and apparently the 3D effect on that is much better than on the original 3DS

The black & pink 3 game packs have a different selection. Going to try and wait a bit longer, already bought a PS4, Vita and 5 games in the past month!

I love the 3D effect, especially on the mini games on the console - the game with the little floating heads is brill.

it looks like you have got enough money but have you got enough time.

Haha, probably not. I just really want to play through pokemon x/y!

Kids want one

I previously owned a ds lite and bought a 3ds xl during the black Friday sales. I'd say its worth buying, even though I keep the 3d slider off 90% of the time, the new games available for the 3ds are worth it. If you already own a normal ds you can sell it off but keep the games as the 3ds can play the old ds games.

Check out the 3d in bravely default....stunning! For most games I don't bother though, but the console is not a one trick pony at all

Little heat added

Thanks

so basically a 2DS is a better buy?

Makes a change that the games they are offering with this deal are all great games, not one dud in there.

Bought last week @ £149.99 (thought that was good deal), just chatted to Amazon and refund £20 job done. Thanks OP

Having owned the original small 3DS and the later 3DS XL, i would avoid getting the small one because the 3D effect causes much more eye strain (and builds up a headache) than the XL version, seems they were under quite a bit of pressure to improve on that. The 3D effect on the XL version has more depth and benefits from the larger display as well as improved backwards compatibility (scaling on old DS games is better).

However you can play this with the 3D effect turned off and enjoy the games on more powerful hardware than the original DS, if buying for kids i would go for the 2DS which has removed the 3D function so they can play it for longer without headache/eye strain issues from that.

Not a bad deal at all!
Personally, I found the 3D effect made my eyes very tired. But the 3D was actually quite useful in racing games such as Mario Kart.

Agreed. Borrowed my brother's 3DS for a week or so a while ago, didn't like it at all.

However, recently bought a 3DS XL and love it. Only played Mario 3D Land and Bit.Trip Saga so far, but both look much better (in my opinion) with the 3D turned on.

The XL version is by far the superior console and worth the extra cash.

You can also turn off the 3D effect on a 3DS under parental control. When parental control is turned on the 3DS always displays images in 2D regardless of the slider.
It's a good way to benefit from the better stereo speakers and portability over the clunky 2DS. I'm surprised so little people know that this option exists.

munchkin13

Not if you want to experience certain games properly where the 3D really enhances the gameplay like Legend of Zelda: Link Between Worlds or Super Mario 3D Land. Granted, there's not much titles that must have 3D but I can attest to the notion that Zelda is amazing in 3D.

Sweet! Incoming eShop discounts. I highly recommend Crimson Shroud to anyone who ever enjoyed pen and paper D&D.

OG 3ds is the best 3ds. remember to find yourself a hori wheel grip if possible - enchances the experience and comfort of using the system exponentially.
