I've looked at some comparisons on Youtube and there are some slight differences.Do people think it's worth getting the new one for the extra money? Probably an extra £60.00 on top of these with a game too.

100% worth getting the New 3DS XL. The 3D is much more stable and is actually usable!

I can't agree with that, the 2nd Gen 3DS XL's bigger screen is not simply stretching the same display, its an improved and higher quality display.3DS XL over 3DS all day long, even if its a 1st Gen XL, like the cool Yoshi one.

Think he mean's New 3DS XL over Old 3DS XL

Mario stuff appeals to a larger market but I'd imagine more of it is produced.

Well I am obviously not going to produce any sales graphs and statistics, but I don't think you are able to either? Merely have a differing opinion is all and said I "respectfully disagree". The people will make their own mind up.

I'd acknowledge teh arn posts a good point to be fair about Mario appealing to larger market, but more of it produced.

This is particularly true also of kids, they don't want to play with the 3D. None of my nephews/neices/kids and their friends use the 3D or like the 3D, regardless of the model.

That's because the 3D is dreadful on the old 3DS/3DS-XL. It's really nice on the new ones though.

Silver one with t-shirt seems the best deal out of the bunch, especially as the mario game is awesome.

As someone who has first hand experience with lecticular screens, (Fuji W3,) I'd pay the extra money for the new 3DS. I'm not saying the original screen is bad, its just that the new screen is better.

I have the Yoshi XL one and its really cool. On the back of the console its got printed Yoshi Eggs. Comes with a green stylus. You can also get a Yoshi egg background from the Eshop for a quid or two.

Saw it reduced just before xmas to £100 on Nintendo site, but it was only for a day.

Re it being old technology, unless your really caught up on the wonderful design, has to be best to buy a 2nd Gen newer 3DS XL model. Your getting a better battery chemistry and longer charge with built in Amiibo support and the improved button layout with C-stick control.

Something tells me Nintendo will be dropping new gen announcement this E3. Price is good however that's most probably why it's going cheaper now

Hmm, helpful. I would expect people to favour the new model but I don't know whether the extra 60-70 pounds is worth it. I'm like you in that I probably won't play it too much, just pokemon :). Might be best to go to a local CEX/game store to see if they'll let you try out a pre-owned older model to see how you get on with it. I've seen the new model and it does look really impressive.

I have a Toysrus across from work. Going to nip in after work to see if I can get hold of both the new and old and have a quick play. Worth seeing the difference for the 3d to see if it's worth it. I need to justify the exta 70 quid without games to consider it

The Yoshi 3DS XL is the real deal here and the collectible model with the reasonable longer term future resale value, especially if unopened. Along with the Yoshi model, the only other decent and collectable 3DS XL 1st Gens were the rarer Luigi one and the silver Mario/Luigi Dream Team edition (see pics below).

The Yoshi one was £199.99 before Christmas end of 2014, and all of 2015 on Nintendo website and Amazon. Recently dropped to £179.99 (excluding that previous one day £100 offer). They have always been around £200 new on ebay until recently where they have dropped to about £150.

If you want to collect or just desire a really cool 3DS XL that happens to be a 1st Gen model, go for the Yoshi one. But the 2nd Gen 3DS XL has to be the practical investment if your a frequent user and player.

I respectfully disagree with both those suggestions being better investments than Mario themed units. The trend is The Mario themed stuff will be worth more in 10 years than any Zelda or Pokemon stuff. But the Zelda 3DS XL although nothing exciting, I would agree is a decent investment also with good resale value in future.

I picked up a New 3DSXL for £135 from CEX just before Christmas, got very lucky as it's as new really. Didn't have the old one (though remember trying the 3D in GAME a few years back and hating it as you had to have it held in just the right place. On the new one though it's much better (can move your head around and doesn't affect the 3D) and I use the 3D all the time.

I have opened the Mario classic 8-bit style calendar, and its stunning and quite beautiful really, lovely smooth and hard card. Bit of a nightmare to write on mind you, with your standard basic pens, will need to buy some fancy ink pen to use it.

Just ordered thanks OP, was waiting for the amazon lightening deal to come back around for £85 as I was going to place cfw on it and the included bundled game is superfluous but the t-shirt calendar and plug are a good compromise.
