Nintendo characters come to life in new ways as amiibo - interactive figures that have the ability to communicate with multiple specially designed games by just touching them to the Wii U GamePad controller. Nintendo plans to release first series of amiibo this year alongside Super Smash Bros. for Wii U.

- amiibo can interact with compatible games when players touch them to the Wii U GamePad controller, reading character data into games and saving data to the figure.

- In Super Smash Bros., players can battle alongside or against their amiibo characters, leveling them up in the process. They can then bring them to a friend who has a Wii U and the game to show off how they've trained and customized their characters.

- Different compatible games will use amiibo in different ways. Super Smash Bros. for Wii U will be the first game to use amiibo. Games like Mario Kart 8, Mario Party 10, Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker and Yoshi's Woolly World are also planned to support amiibo.

Amazon + Flubit should be able to get you the amiibo for slightly cheaper (£9-ish), but this is still a good price.

Pleased they are only this price, I was expecting £20+

Be aware that the quality of the finalised Amiibo figures aren't as good as the ones shown at E3. I'm very disappointed because I had planned to get every single one of them and now I won't, as the quality decreased I'm no longer interested.

Bit dramatic mate. the quality of a few figures don't look great, peach being a good example but some of the others are still great. The plastic sticks on link / wii for trainer aren't great but these will all be a success. Amazon + Flubit being sub 9 quid is great!!

Yes, it will be a success but for hardcore fans and collectors it's disappointing that the quality isn't as good.

Just look at Marth's and Link's swords they're curved, and Link on the final edition is looking down at the ground (who from Nintendo thought this'd be a good idea?!).

I see your point. I'll be busy playing the games rather than sat there staring adoringly at them.

Defo not interested after quality down grade.. Or two.. Look budget now..kinda like arcade 2p machine prizes

Ah, this is the first that I've seen of the downgrade but it's definitely a shame. I'll keep my order in for one figure (Link, as it happens), but this has put me right off buying any others (admittedly the chances of that had always been pretty low).

The Disney Infinity figures look way better and I don't even care about the game it's for. I'll probably be buying a few in sometime, including Groot.

The complex characters with a lot of detail like Link, Marth and Peach all look poor in my opinion but the simple characters like Pikachu, Yoshi and DK seem fine.

Shame about the drop in quality but as long as they're of higher quality than tje Pokemon Rumble U figures I'm happy.

£10 seems to be about the going rate for these, isn't it?

What do people expect for a tenner???

I have bought Yoshi, Pikachu & Link as Well as the Mario In Pack, I got the game and mario from amazon and the Amiibo's from Tesco as they are in the Clubcard Boost.

The product they revealed, with the quality they revealed.

Either keep the same quality and up the price or reveal the products with a lower quality.

This is Ubisoft levels of deception but with actual physical items. Nintendo however get defended (and i'm a Nintendo fan and own a Wii U).

I agree, now if you were to pay £20 then the quality becomes questionable.

Looks like we found the real reason people seem so bothered! Shameful oO

The prototypes would have been 3D printed and then hand painted with great attention to detail. Obviously now that they are in full production they will use moulds and then painted by a team of painters and/or machines.

Its unfortunate but unavoidable in the toy market.

I hope Samus isn't badly affected. I've only been going on the photos on Amazon which I was taking to be what they actually look like D:

Starfox still looks good. Which one are you thinking about?

New gallery.

As you can see, they all look fine in detail and paint work... much more detail than the Skylander / Infinity sets. That goes for Link as well aside from, imo, the yellow stand doesn't fit and he looks like he's looking down.
