You're right. Won't this get stopped at customs because it's over £18, so have to pay VAT and import Tax on top? That would then make it a lot dearer than the Morrisons deal. Do the US DS's play UK games?

Can you still trade these in for £75 at game?

The buzz on the DX forums seems to point to these being DS motherboards stored in third-party casing (e.g. normal screws instead of those tri-ones). Also worth considering:

news.bbc.co.uk/cbb…stm

these are probably fake. heard there were fakes ds's

doubt these will be the real thing

just ordered a brand new ds lite from littlewoods direct for just over £61 using £30 off voucher. they have them in lime green, blue, red and pink at 89 each. Quidco tracking at 8%

chooe the ems shipping 1extra and you dont pay customs tax as it gets sent as gift

i personally wouldnt bye a ds from deal extreme

dealextreme a feckers

the only thing real about this is likely to be the motherboard - id rather dx selling just that

i got mine from morrisons
goodluck with this
it sounds fake to me

this comes to 101.23 dollers is this correct with ems shipping also it has 3 items in the basket as it says registered air mail is this right ?

Bargain!
Please, pretty please, can we all have the dx arguments again over how something is 'fake' even when it's not advertised as being 'original' (the case in this, er, case) Please. lol.

Although on saying that, if you are going to buy one:

"Refurbished Product (warranty disclaimer): this is a refurbished product and does not come with any warranties from its manufacturer. If the device becomes defective, customers should contact local Nintendo repair centers for paid repair services."

18.5% if customs decide to inspect it (and if it's incorrectly classed as a gift I guess they seize it completely).

With no warranty it's cold for me.

that video is just scaremungering, it would still be cheaper to buy this … that video is just scaremungering, it would still be cheaper to buy this and then a "official power adapter" if ur worried about it "melting!:geek:

Yeah it wasn't the PowerMeltor adapter that I thought was important - more a heads-up that the fakes are ("officially") out there and that the box will go some way in identifying a fake (for those who haven't come into contact with a real ds box).

Limit until you have to pay for duty was raised to over £100 before Christmas so don't worry about that, vat still applies on purchases over £18 but it's 15%...

there's a fair chance these are fake in my opinion.

basing this on the fact that:

- nodham said "The buzz on the DX forums seems to point to these being DS motherboards stored in third-party casing"

- the review on the website talks about how the start/select buttons are hard to push in on his, and it uses different screws etc...

- Looking at the pictures on the dealextreme website (maybe its just me!)

- its cheap ... maybe too cheap!

- dealextreme are hardly brilliant.

apart from all that there is the chance of being stung my customs...

personally i'd go for the littlewoods deal

Isnt there a handling charge of something like £8 aswell?

why is this deal not cold are people that gready
they will buy anything

From Hakan_G, one of the DX moderators:

The casings are third party.
Screens, batteries and buttons are or can also be third party items.

The only thing you can be sure of is the motherboards ;-)
As these are refurbished, the MBs can be modified/fixed as well ...

Hot from me

They can't really be a fake, more a repaired/refurbished unit. The Vii is a fake Wii
en.wikipedia.org/wik…Vii

Those are just a refurbished unit.

Replaced the power switch, hinge tumbler and top screen on mine and the whole case twice from DX on my White one (had the cracking hinge that Nintendo refused to acknowledge) Most of the replacements need no soldering, only a tri-wing screwdriver (they sell them) and the part to replace. Only the power switch needed solderign and that was an easy enough job.

As for the power supply, I got the DS/DS Lite/PSP/iPod charger, stick it into a mains to useb adapter and charge everything at once, or in my car...or in my pc/laptop etc etc

Going to sell it to get a new Black one or a DSi

i have had amjor problems with deal extreme, bought a fake r4 card, paid to return it and they refused to refund me - bad, bad company to deal with! BEWARE!! :x

Seems a lot to me. Fake DS's are only worth about £40. They run all the same games and operate like a normal DS but the casing is not legit. Fake DS's have no guarantee as they aren't licensed. This really seems like a fake pure and simple.

I've bought heaps of stuff of DealExreme, but I certainly wouldn't risk one of these or anything else of any great value really. To send anything back would instantly wipe out any savings you made, and the price isn't all THAT low considering that as far as parts go, it's only about half a genuine DS lite. DealExtreme are excrutiatingly slow to deal with with returns/refunds. Comments left on DealExtreme are extremely mixed, with more than a fair share of horror stories.

I'd sooner scan ebay for something in the same price range, wich is more than possible if you keep an eye out in the newly listed stuff.

Not voted cold, but I'm not voting this hot either, to risky if you ask me.

I personally have never had a problem ordering from Deal Extreme and ordered quite a few things over the past couple of years, but I would not order a DS from them. Not because I have any fear that they wouldnt replace a faulty one, but the hassle of getting it replaced, packing up and the wait to get it sent back to me.

The other reason is VAT, no matter what shipping method you choose you will run the risk of VAT plus the Post Office charge to collect it on top of that. EMS shipping is not a way to avoid it, its luck and only luck that you get away with avoiding VAT.

You can pick them up elsewhere in the UK for not much more 2nd hand.

The price is good....

So whether you buy depends more on your "risk appetite"

So - cheap yes....

Risk - it is DOA - dead on arrival...

The cost of returning it, possibly it getting lost in the post, the cost of repair, the worry of not getting a working product, the inability to sue the seller, trading standards have no influence etc. All this will be worse if Customs sting you 15% VAT - and it doesnt work (by which time it's cost you over £62.50  ) you'll be well unhappy

So if removing this worry is worth a fiver, buy in the UK!

If not, buy from DealExtreme

55 quid is cheap for a second hand ds lite?
never mind one with potentially inferior casing/buttons/battery(!) etc and potential customs... and thats if its real?

personally id spend an extra 20 quid get a brand new one here delivered/picked up in a couple of days with a nice warranty and peace of mind

Not forgetting the lack of warranty. As I type this it's at 179 degrees.
There are some real numptys on here.
Unbelievable,

What are you talkng about? Don't concern yourself with the hassle and wait of getting it replaced because it won't happen.
Have you not read this thread?

I have had plenty of dealings with Deal Extreme, and only had trouble with one parcel that didn't arrive and I didn't get my money back. That didn't stop me using them again, I just won't buy anything for more money than I can afford to lose. So all those little leads, gadgets and toys that come in under the VAT free limit (£18?) are no problem for me. I won't be buying this DS, whether it's fake, refurb, or even brand new.

Freezing - With VAT and customs charges on top (which you are probably more likely to get than not, even if marked as gift), you are looking at closed to £75-80 delivered.

With the chance of it being fake on top of that, but certainly second hand/refurb, it simply aint worth it!

To buy this you'd need to bit a few sandwiches short of a picnic.

They are obviously fake. If they were nintendo refurbished, do you really think nintento would put 3rd party cases on them???

No warranty = avoid
+ potential import taxes = def avoid
+ not genuine = avoid like the plague

Buy cheap......pay twice.

Everyone voting hot - I thought you might like to know there are Pokemon GBA games (limited edition colours!) for purchase on ebay.
