Son got a 3ds last year, but would have been just as happy with this having a Pokemon game.
Great price

Can be had for £54 if you create a new account and use WELCOME code for 10% off.

Heat. Still a good console if you buy a decent flashcard theres a huge back catalogue. DsTwo pref.

I'd say this isn't a great deal. For a small extra cost - about the price of one new game you could get yourself a 2DS which would open you up to hundreds more games.

or you could just buy PokéMon White as it works on 3DS.

If you don't want to open a new account code VC5OFF50 gives £5 off

How does the 2DS offer hundreds more games?

Great console, and amazing price with a game. Heat.

Because it runs 3DS games.

I've ordered one for my son for Xmas. Thanks for this :-)

Yeah the 2DS and 3DS can play both DS and 3DS games.

The original DS could play GameBoy Advance games, however the DSi cannot. Essentially, the DSi only has access to one game library while the earlier and later DS systems can access two.

me too :-)

This isn't a deal. A DSi is worth about £30 now.

its a dead console.

To the people who don't yet "get" why 3DS games don't work on this... you shouldn't be allowed near technology, period.

A kid that gets this, at this price, has one utter moron of a parent. and should frogmarch them out to be shot and replaced by someone who can learn how to use google as well as hotukdeals.

That code is dead. also codes can't be used on consoles anyway.

Heat added. £49.99 and I would of bit.

Second hand you can get it for £30, not new.

Amazon sell the DSi new for around £80, so this is a good deal; particularly as it's a Pokeman model (not something that interests me, but they are generally worth more).

I do agree that most kids would prefer the 3DS, however 3DS games remain expensive while DS games can be bought cheap. Not every parent can afford the latest consoles. And even if they are not in a good financial position, I am sure they would prefer to buy a console new as a gift rather than something second hand. Particularly as it will come with a warranty.

And what's wrong with a dead console?

I'm currently on the look out for a Gameboy Micro in good condition. I'm also looking at other older handhelds as I want to pick up classics I missed (and there's a lot of them).

was about to reply and say amazon dont sell these for 80 and i was right its 3rd party sellers so that price is irrelevant
BUT ....they do actually sell the white dsi for £118.45 ... LOL!

My son has asked for a DS for Xmas so I'm thinking about getting him one and remembered there was a card you could buy for the one ones which let you run games you could acquire...

cheers

Hopefully it arrives before xmas, this is zavvi

This is a bargain. Collectors want the limited edition consoles. For example, retro limited edition gameboys (advance sp / micro's etc...) sell for a much higher price on the retro market. If you have one of these, sealed, then the price will only go up in years to come...

I agree this is a great deal for a collector and a very bad present for a kid, who will see all these new 3ds games and will not be able to play them.

if your son has asked for a DS either he meant a 2DS/3DS or is behind the times.
Personally I wouldn't buy my kid a 2 generation old console for Christmas

If I had a need to (have two 3DSs and a DSi) I'd definitely buy this. Great deal. Heat

It's not 2 generations old, it's 1 generation old. The "New 3DS" isn't out yet and won't count as a full generation anyway, as there will almost certainly be only a few New 3DS exclusive games.

Nintendo really did themselves no favours in the naming of the 3DS console.
It still causes mass confusion amongst the casuals/parents.

As others have said this is a Nintendo DSi.

This is the third itteration of Nintendo's previous generation handheld. It will play DS games and DSi enhanced games.
It will not play GBA games as the slot was removed (the original "Phat" DS and DS Lite has a GBA slot)
It will not play 3DS games or the upcoming "New 3DS" enhanced games (only 1 known so far - Xenoblade Chronicles port).

I hope this clears up any confusion for interested parties.
It's a great buy if you're a collector but for anyone else is rather outdated.

Cheers OP, just ordered one as my old DS is falling apart

And both the codes do work!

you'll find the "New 3DS" is out, just not in the country that you live.

Hot order placed it will do my youngest just fine

Sure you can play DS games on the 3DS/2DS, but they're upscaled by 1.5x which makes them look blurry and ugly. Plus the aspect ratio isn't the same, so you get pillarboxing.

If you want to experience the games properly, then you need to play them on the original console.

Not too bad a device for emulation too...not that I condone that sort of thing

The PSP is far superior for Emulation.

Not a fan of emulation on the DS even with a SupercardDSTWO.

no offense but it was helpful, do you think your 6 year old knows they don't want a dsi?
they will know its not what they want though when they unwrap it!
any kid specifically asking for a 'ds' is asking for the one in the media unless they have a sibling with one etc

This is about the 5th time some 'special edition' pokemon white DSi stock has magically appeared at sub £60 on hotukdeals this year. What's with that?
