Official charging dock for the New 3ds only (not any others, and not the New 3ds xl) at this price its a good stocking filler for the new 3ds owner in your family.

I have had it since launch and yes, it can move around as its not heavy. It is a light weight piece of plastic (most of the 3ds docks were) but some sticky feet fix that.

Fwiw i've not noticed any rubbing on the plates after a couple of years of docking or any other problems. + there's less wear and tear to the charging port.

The newer ones have an extra stick, built in amibo card reader and the buttons have the old style colours on them

Cheers, mine is a sucky old one then... now I know I need a new one... boo and hiss... hahaha.
I got my lad one but barely use it as needs to come out his case for it to fit. Good price though from past experience my lad needs his in a case.

Ah that is a pain isn't it. I've had the same issue with tablets and phones. Very VERY annoying.

They're also slightly bulkier, so it's not just the rearrangement that prevents them from using each other's accessories.
It would have been nice if they had put in the effort to make a smaller / pocketable version, like they did the original DS

The ds range tended to get larger as it went along (bar the 1st phat model) the new 3ds is still pretty trim compared to the xl version i thought. I keep mine in a hori case and a madcatz case on occasion both meant for the dsi and it fits those well.
