Ouch at most of those prices heat for the effort tho.
I'm new to Nintendo and have been stunned at how they have managed to keep prices so high. Even in the second hand market. So I'm sure this is a deal but I still find them eye watering
Breath of the Wild costing more now than I paid for a physical copy at launch is peak Nintendo.

Interested in seeing how low Ni No Kuni goes. Probably only around 30% though, which won't tempt me. Heat added regardless.

Yep, agree. Although they are the best prices for digital I've seen. Let's see what else is on sale on Friday.

Still expensive as all hell. IMHO. Bah.

Looks like this weeks current sale is better than next weeks black friday sale!
Hopefully physical games come lower. But all this will do is reduce the resale price later on.
Awful like usual.

Actually dragonball fighterz is a decent price but yea im guessing its gonna be mainly indie or digital only games whats heavily reduced they usually are.
Could be some good prices from foreign eShops...
Thanks OP

Dragonball FighterZ seems a good price? Apparently decent performance, too, so might pick that up!

Unfortunately trash, hoping Link's awakening goes on sale though. Hoping for some better deals from CD Keys.

Oh thought these were what they will be for
Deals on physical copies from Amazon and ShopTo will be better.

You can buy Mario Wii U for £40 now. Nintendo are claiming that 30% off equals £35? Absolute gangsters.
Can you game share with the Nintendo Switch if you buy digital? If you have two kids with a switch do you need two copies or would one digital copy work for both devices?

Sorry new to the switch and both boys are getting one a handheld and a normal one.

The problem is that most 1st party Nintendo games don't have much competition. Take Assassins Creed, there are plenty of other sandbox games on the market competing for gamers limited free time. There's no real equivalent for Nintendo first party games therefore no incentive to reduce prices.

There is a way to have games on 2 switches however the games can only be played on one switch at a time.
Hoping for a big discount on Bulletstorm

If it's all on one switch, you're all good. If its multiple consoles it can still be done but just requires a few more steps and only one can be playing the game.

Where the deals at?
Why do nintendo games never drop in price like on other consoles?

Why do nintendo games never drop in price like on other consoles?

Good question lol... and its been like this since forever? Admittedly the prices tank after a new gen console comes along but when its current gen the prices stay close to RRP for a lot longer than most. Especially the triple A games from Nintendo.

But I suppose the main thing is...people still buy the games at those prices!
Was debating whether to get a switch but seeing these prices really puts me off even bothering tbh

Second prices are high because players tend to buy and keep Nintendo first party games. So supply in the second hand market is lower.

They also strongly believe in not devaluing their games so you'll never see them at more than 33% off.
Hello, is it possible to buy a downloadable game as a gift voucher? I would like to buy one of them as a Christmas gift but not sure how it would work. Thanks

Why do nintendo games never drop in price like on other consoles?

There are many reasons. People usually just default to “Switch Tax” or “they’re greedy” but there are really a number of reasons with neither of those being true.

It’s because Nintendo believe that by doing so, you devalue your IP. It doesn’t help us, but in some respects, they are absolutely correct. Just look at any Xbox/PS deal on here and you’ll see comments of “Not buying until £20” quite regular. People now expect cheaper games.

On top of that, Nintendo has a much smaller market share compared to Xbox and Playstation. Plus, Nintendo usually only release one game per franchise, per console generation, compared to Sony and Microsoft (and their third party publishers) releasing many sequels to their franchises over the course of their respective lifespans.

Somebody mentioned that Sony and MS have to compete with their third party publishers too whereas not many release their games on Switch so Nintendo doesn’t have that problem as much.

Their sales model is very different to the rest of the console market. Whilst with most games the majority of sales happen in the first month followed by depleted sales in the following months, this is also diluted further by second hand market etc.

Nintendo’s sales model works a little differently, game sales are all year round. Their IPs have selling power. People buy a switch and want a Mario game and a Pokemon game etc. This means year round sales for many years.

Nintendo also implement a no drop policy, much like Apple. If you want to stock the product the product costs ‘this much’ with little wiggle room for sales etc. Unless Nintendo says so or supplies you with stock that is to be sold as sale stock.
Or the rare store is unloading their own stock.

You can see this in action with Mario rabbids. The game hasn’t held value as Ubisoft has applied their usual sales tactics of dropping the price after the initial high volume sales period. Yet Mario kart 8 has held value due to their sales practice.

The core thing is that it’s not wholely organic some of it is mediated by Nintendo themselves.

But more third party devs are releasing their games on switch than on any other Nintendo platform in the past. But Nintendos stance on pricing and sales for those games still hasn’t changed.
Has Cadence of Hyrule ever been cheaper? I've got a bit of eShop credit/points built up, might just get it.

Wow. Zelda is that much. I can wait....

At the same time, because of this, you don't feel too burned when you buy their games day 1 at full price. I almost never do this for non-Switch titles, with a few exceptions that I really want to play, because the games tank in price just a month or two down the road, let alone an entire year, at that point they are sub-10 quid sometimes.

Physical non-sales are better than the majority of these ‘deals’. Not to mention you actually own a physical copy of the game
Dragon Ball for £15 is a definite buy for me
I don’t think Nintendo understand digital yet. We like to pick games up for next to nothing on digital. Zelda cost me less than £40 for the physical release over 2 years ago
