Unlike the big fat consoles though the Switch does not use the internal storage for game installs as it has the games on memory cartridges anyway just like a 3DS. Only DLC is going to take up much space.

beat me to it! Only relevant if your planning to purchase download - still have a good 400g to spare of my 500gb external HD I bought for my Wii U!

This is actually incorrect.
Nintendo Switch game cards are non-writable; game save data is stored in internal NAND memory, not the cartridge.

You can also purchase games digitally, which will save to the SD card, so this will be useful. It has already been stated (somewhere) that Zelda will digitally take up 40% of the internal storage as a digital download.

Surely Nintendo will create their own version of MicorSD cards for the switch so that they can control the price? Much like Playstation did with their Vita memory cards...

save data hardly takes any room.......

plus they haven't actually released details of this nature yet, so unless you designed them yourself how would you know?

Exactly - as per my post it is only DLC that is going to take up significant space, game saves will take up next to nothing.

Depends on the game. Some saves can take 200Mbs and it can all add up.

Plus, don't forget about patches, updates and DLC.

If 32Gb really isn't enough for the paltry selection of launch titles (about 10 games I believe) then perhaps this console isn't worth getting at launch. If it is enough then surely it'd be better to wait until you actually need the extra memory by which point the price may well have dropped.

all their other consoles take standard micro/SD

no reason why they wouldn't follow suit with this.

Also I believe it should support up to 2tb cards (when they are available, and a sensible price!)
so storage won't be an issue. they may also allow USB drives as external storage like with the Wii and Wii u so flash drives or external hard drives are also a possibility.

You can get 256gb micro sdxc cards on eBay for so cheap. I bought one recently for £25.00. It's a top class Samsung card too. The Eco Plus.

That's a fake card mate.
It's most likely a 32GB/64GB flashed to appear to be larger.
Once you get past the correct/original capacity of the card you will encounter errors.

How much does your tablet have?

128Gb

Am delighted Nintendo has gone back to cartridges, using CD's just because the other mainstream consoles do so was never a good reason for having CD's.

Hey, just wanted to let you know that I finally got the memory card today and tested it immediately. You were right! The first 8gb were fine, the other 248gb corrupted. Seeking a refund now. Lesson learned, thanks for the heads up.

Wow the cheek, using just an 8GB card. It's like they want to be found out X) At least if they used something higher it would take some time for the person to find out.

Ebay is riddled with fake cards but at least you can easily get your money back although I'm sure a lot of people don't know/bother to which ensures this cycle continues.

I have no idea why they even used optical media. Perhaps simply for cheap media.
It's not like they used it to maintain compatability with movie playback. Their consoles don't even support playing DVD's and the Wii U used a proprietary alternative to Blu-ray breaking compatability further.
