Each of the controllers are basically smartphones without the screen. (And …Each of the controllers are basically smartphones without the screen. (And with a low powered processor) They're pretty complicated.

Yea Im always accidentally trying to make calls on them or trying to post on hotukd with them, very easy to mistake them for a Samsung galaxy

Yea, there is a lot in them.
Then you also have to take into consideration that console companies make their money back on games and accessories.

Supply/Demand basically. There are less offers around than before Xmas. Is like MK8D and Odessy have both gone up in price digital or physical with retailers, and discounts are rare since Xmas.

If your patient the market will surely improve in the coming weeks or a month or two (but I wouldn't expect bargains).

I think what your saying is there are most than just an up/down/left/right and fire buttons kinda controller. They are very innovative in their design as extremely versatile and can function in many different ways and styles, and can interact with other accessories (both out and for future release). They can do everything a Wii U remote can, they have the motion control for instance. The Bluetooth is very good too and it it takes away the faffing of syncing like with Wii U controllers. You can even turn the Switch on with the joycons.

The battery life is also superb, and they even charge when attached to the Switch screen when docked, and there are 4-way chargers available too (they don't take long to charge either). You can mix different combos of joy cons bought from different packs to with different comfort grips (as long as they are Left + Right obviously).

And throw in that for many games a pack or pair of joy cons can give you 2 controllers, and 2 players, they are actually quite good value even at RRP.

So they are actually high quality and pretty good controllers. My only criticism of them is a traditional D-pad instead of those 4 buttons would have been preferable for the older 8-16bit retro style games.

The issue though, is that the dpad would not have worked with the design and affect the whole ideology of the Switch. The controllers wouldn’t be the same on both sides.

For me, I don’t mind the direction buttons. However I did buy a pro controller, partly for the dpad (I was expecting Virtual Console to be out day one...)
I think, if you are that bothered about the dpad, then you are also likely to be bothered to get a pro controller anyway for the appeal of playing for longer periods.

Saying that, I got these for £52 during the 20% of at eBay. Found a seller selling them for the same price as above.
Just ordered these with the new account discount, good deal if a new customer!
