Anyone else feel that Nintendo are missing a trick with the limited options for the joycons? I've ended up manually replacing the shells on both my joycon sets...

Yes, I have bought all the colours except for grey and put thumb grips on them all to Mario characters theme them. There is some good themed stuff out there, but all fan made mods and sometimes expensive. Nintendo have always been lacking with themes and rather slow on that front when they get there. It was the last year of the Wii U's life when they released a Bowser and Toad themed remote.

Posting photos anyway of my joy con collection Mario character themed, which might give some a few ideas.

Many of us seem to be desperately anticipating a modified joy con by Nintendo that includes a proper D-pad instead of 4 single buttons. Not holding my breath though

You can get replacement shells with a dpad. However due to the fact the joycons can be used on their own, I doubt Nintendo will release a set with a dpad.

Here are my replacement shells:

I love those white ones
Are the replacement shells easy to fit?

And where do you get them from?

From my experience they are very hit and miss in quality. If you get one that is good quality then it's easy to fit. Both of mine had minor issues, for example the + and - buttons wouldn't fit loosely enough on both sets so I just had to scrape a small layer of the plastic away. Also the white replacement shell was a full set but the back case had a broken piece of plastic but Amazon refunded me in full without having to send it back. The clear purple had very weak plastic on the middle section of the joy cons, so I had to be very careful when clicking the back triggers on. Also make sure you have a decent set of triwing screwdrivers as my first replacement has stripped one of the screws in the white set, where I didn't have any issues when I bought a new screwdriver set for the clear purple set.

Both of them I purchased through Amazon at £29.99 each but as I mentioned above Amazon refunded the full amount on the white ones. Without the back case the joy con shells are about £16 on their own.

I wish Nintendo Switch's were easier to hardware mod to gamers taste. Sometimes I think Nintendo missed a good opportunity here.
Hot, code doesn't work though...
