Most recent Switch breakdown suggests the production price of around $260 per unit, so the hardware is not old at all and worth the retail price. The only problem is an extreme lack of games right now

And what exactly do you expect in 4k for £280?

This isn't HotUKStockAlert.

There is so little there for early adopters of the Switch, I'm clueless to why people would pay £279.99 for it. Faulty hardware, one good game, no apps, no wi-fi and no e-shop. Fix all this and lower the price and I'll buy one. I do like the idea of a HD portable console that is region free.

Will wait for the inevitable hardware revision that comes out. At least by then there should be a good supply of games to play with more reasonable prices.

I don't know how great this console is, but had a lot of amazon gift cards so got mine delivered yesterday, after ordering on 22/1/17 and cex still gave me £290 into my bank account today.

Thanks cex. Keep up the good work.

No they don't struggle, Paul. X)

I can play at 4K 60fps with my GTX1070 with higher settings than on console. Let's not spread misinformation now. I mean, that's a mid range GPU too.

Rubbish range of games, no virtual console (yet) and poor quality control. Mine suffers from orange screen of death, buzzes loudly, disconnects from my tv after a few minutes in the dock and freezes regularly.

The above issues are not isolated to my console btw. Many others on the net report the same.

Cold as RRP. Not a deal!

To be honest I am so bored with the current generation of consoles.

I have had nearly every console from Atari 2600 to the Panasonic 3do, and have I been so apathetic about gaming.

I didn't touch my Sony psp vita for 2 years after buying it. Then. didn't buy a ps4 until last September, but sold it in January, due to lack of quality games.

Then I get excited by the idea of psvr and films in 3d, and Sony do no demonstrations in the 2nd city, nor subsidise the rip off £15 game were charging.

My hopes now lie with the Scorpio.

If that disappoints, then I may give up on gaming, as it's so same old, same old.

Mine isn't faulty. It has a few good games now. Spent all night playing snipperclips with the other half. WiFi works, and there is also an estore. Deffo needs more games asap.

Flagship game Zelda BotW doesn't even manage 720p at all times when played in portable mode.

Many Switch games won't be native 1080p and/or 60fps just because it's capable of outputting at those levels. Zelda BotW in docked mode is only native 900p and doesn't even manage that much at all times. It's also only 30fps and, just like with its resolution, isn't able to maintain it at all times.

Last good Nintendo.... N64.... Nintendo is dead to me now...

As Zelda has reviewed as one of the best games ever released then I don't really see the limited resolution as a major downfall although FYI the new Mario Kart 8 will be 1080p at 60 FPS

Reviews benchmark at max settings on PC. Consoles sit around medium settings with some at high (not max settings). The 1070 can absolutely play games at 4K 60fps at higher settings than consoles. I know because I am doing it.

Love my Switch.

Well. Loved it.

Done with Zelda now. And... there's really not a lot of other stuff out at the moment.

Also had the left joycon sync problem.

Part of me wishes I'd waited tbh. The price might not come down much, but I reckon quality control will improve on the hardware side at the very least. Another part sort of really really enjoyed Zelda and so doesn't care...

Not irrelevant as it was to make the point that resolution is not the main reason whether a game is good or not

Just come across this screenshot from Xbox Scorpio releasing this year...

https://pbs.twimg.com/media/C8u0qKzUMAEJkgH.jpg

4K 60fps is definitely not a problem for high end PCs when the new Xbox is even capable of it later this year. That's only using 66% of the GPU power too. Nintendo is falling very far behind when it comes to power of the hardware.

Half of what you said is not true. There has been wi-fi and e-shop from the day 1, where did you get that info? And faulty hardware are only isolated issues, as did PS4 and Xbone had at launch. I bought my Switch day 1 and didn't encounter a single issue thus far.
I agree on the games though. Finished Zelda a couple of weeks ago and now there's nothing to play. Summer seems like a perfect time to get the console though. But knowing Nintendo - don't expect a price drops :v

I think once summer comes and MK8 is out I think its going to be even harder than it is now to buy a Switch.

I doubt, it's Nintendo's main revenue right now and if it sells they will make sure it can be found everywhere around. The initial release was very careful due to the failure with Wii U. But that's just my guess.

Yes but compare the games running on a PC/XboxOne/PS4 to the Nintendo Switch.

I can play mk8 and zelda botw on my wii u. Why do I need to spend 280 on average hardware?
