Absolutely nothing as of yet unless you count online play and NES games
NES games, online play and cloud saves. Hopefully at some stage Nintendo will bring SNES and N64 games to Switch but no sign of that yet.
thanks guys. just got a switch last week so don't know much about the service.

Switch units purchased after mid 2018 aren't vulnerable to current exploit used to "hack, mod or jailbreak". So sadly you're SoL if you wanted to take that route.
Also yes, as with any 3rd party software mods it is possible to brick your console it you don't follow instructions..

Not advocating for or against hacking your switch, having a hacked switch means you can no longer enjoy deals such as this. But it does mean you can enjoy Nes, Snes and N64 games though!

Do switch and wii u owners play the same games online together because i have yet to not find a online game with 7 to 12 players on th U version of MK8, which is weird as the console is dead yet seems to have a lot of people playing MK8.

Are the monthly games still rentals? When they first announced them I'm pretty sure they could only be played for the month, even if you had switch online afterwards.

You can play them solo and offline (although if playing offline, you have to go online once every 7 days).

I've got subscription for cloud saves and online play but havent bothered with the NES games yet. Keeping fingers crossed we will see SNES games sooner rather than later.
Great price, thanks!

If you use SX OS, it is nearly impossible to brick your system.

If not for SX OS I wouldn't recommend jailbreaking anyways.

If you have a newer switch it is unhackable. There's still some pokemon switch consoles on sale from argos you can buy which are hackable.

Paying for this service which literally has very little to offer is ridiculous, in my personal opinion. Spend 5 quid more and get all manner of NES and SWITCH games you want.

Its a great console just doesn't warrant the price nintendo demands. I have 4 switches.

Thanks for the info! Can you still play online with sxos and does sxos give you switch games or just the snes nes ones?
I have yet to sign up to switch online. Does anyone know If I buy an online subscription now, do I have access to all the NES games currently released or just the ones released this month.

Doesn't work like PS+ or GwG you get access to ALL the games, not just the ones released since you joined
I miss splatoon 2 online but TBH voting with my wallet till Nintendo actually make the service worthwhile. I get it's like £16 but already have psplus and xbl.

You get the privilege of being offered to pay for over-priced nes style controllers too!

Nintendo's online service is the great con...that Nintendo fans will defend till the bitter end with reminding you it's the cheapest online service out of the 3. The difference is Sony and Microsoft actually offer a service...on top of games from this generation and last.
Switch online doesn't offer anything that wasn't offered when online was free (apart from nes games they've tried charging you for countless times now). No dedicated servers. No party chat. No games discounts.
Instead you get to play smash brothers full of lag still. Or Splatoon full of hackers still. And peer to peer gaming still. It's great.

In short, Yes. You will be banned.
There are ways of trying to circumvent getting banned (Such as "Emunand" on the aforementioned OS) however they aren't at the stage yet where they are 100% fool proof.
It's safer to just assume you'll get banned as soon as you connect to a wifi network. Much less disappointing this way!

Also if you here anyone saying otherwise "I've been playing online for months with a hacked switch and haven't been banned" note that they are most likely already on a Ban list and will be banned in the next ban wave. Nintendo and many other companies use this method to make it harder for users to track down what exactly they did to get banned.

hi there, does this os allow you to locally backup your saves? seen a few vids on the hacking scene but still not 100% certain what i'll need. purchased my switch a couple months after release.
will never pay for an inferior online gaming platform - same price approx to my current xbox & psn memberships (as you need to compare the family pack to that as my kids unable to play online unless you have a family pack with nintendo yet the other platforms allow 1 user to have subs the others can still play online - rip off nintendo).
any guides or info on how i am to do this, also can you in the future revert back to the correct Nintendo OS if/when they release a better Online Sub platform
haven't used our switch since playing smash bro's on release day for a few days, now its left unwanted. throttling users from a full experience by forcing us to get an online sub for a poor svce with NO dedicated servers with NO decent free games NO local backups ... the list goes on, why pay for it?

I've been looking into doing this so that kids in our and friends/outside family households and all get the service and we pay less, but it seems too complicated.
Obviously when each child in each household got the console, us adults went ahead setup the parent account and then added the kids to the family so we had control. But to share this service between us out seems one of us has to be the managing account, then adding all the others to that 'family'.
So from what I can make out, they'd all have to remove their kids from their accounts, I'd then have to add everyone into my 'family account' then I'd have to make each parent a guardian so they had control - great in theory but in practice I'm not sure how well this would work and it sounds like an awful lot of hassle 😔
If anyone has any advice or info that will help, it would be appreciated

If your switch is not on firmware 7 and bought near launch it is hackable.

You go to the SX OS website. You can download their OS for free which allows you to run homebrew, but if you wanna run backups you'll need to buy a license from them. You just download the file, put it on the switch microsd root, then use a "jig" to put the console into recovery. Then connect it to your pc and inject the bootloader and voila you're good to go.

This will allow you to FTP to and from your switch which is massively handy. You can backup saves, edit saves, and use cheat codes in games. You can use a multitude of homebrew.

The switch is a great console but the games are NOWHERE near worth paying for full price. A lot of them are last gen re-hashes anyways. Paying for this online service is madness.

I only endorse the above process to play backups of games you own legally. Not doing so will make a lot of anuses clench.

Anyone up for a family share plan
For those interested in cfw, check the feature list first of the various cfw as there are free alternatives to sx os and research the scene first to avoid issues e.g. sites like GBATemp.

Also, make a full backup as I’ve seen many brick their consoles because they poorly understand what they’re doing and don’t have a backup.

Don’t just rush into hacking a console.

Yes you can get banned for cfw among other things, although there are several known reasons such as cleaning the logs and I know some have attempted to avoid a ban by restoring a ‘clean’ nand.

Personally I think anyone interested in Switch modding should buy a Switch dedicated to it and a separate ‘clean’/legit Switch if they care for online, etc.
I'm incredibly disappointed with the Switch. Aside from remakes and rehashes, it is suffering from the same lack of games as the wii u (which I had also). Don't get me wrong, the Zelda game and Mario game are 2 of the best games ever made imo but a handful of games don't make a great console. A console is only as good as the library that comes with it. Going back to the deal, why is everyone voting hot on saving 21p?

I think it's not as bad/hassle as it sounds. This is a useful article that describes the 4 roles that can be assigned to each Account.

What a splendid way to support Nintendo!

As if they weren’t in enough deep water over the disappointing Wii U.

Then they pull it out the bag with the Switch and produce a wonderful console with brilliant games that everybody seems to love.

So what do people do? Cheat them with jailbreaks and custom OS’s.

What a way to thank Nintendo for keeping the passion of gameplay alive!

I do not think people should be advocating any kind of piracy on this site. It’s disgusting behaviour.
Ok so I’m new to the whole Nintendo online thing. I’ve got two kids who would like to play MarioKart online at the same time (with their friends). Do I need 1 account that they can both play on at the same time (or a family account?). I’m confused and clueless. HELP!
