ℹ️ Kaeru no Tame ni Kane wa Naru is also available on the japanese Game Boy app for those who read/learn jap

Kaeru no Tame ni Kane wa Naru (カエルの為ために鐘かねは鳴なる), officially translated as The Frog For Whom the Bell Tolls, is an action role-playing video game developed by Nintendo and Intelligent Systems and published by Nintendo for the Game Boy exclusively in Japan in 1992.

In order to save Princess Tiramisu captured by the Geronian army, the main character, an easy-to-flatter prince, unfolds an adventure full of laughter and tears, unfolding in the Kingdom of Yarrow. When walking on the ground, the screen is viewed from above, and when exploring a palace or cave, the screen is viewed from the side and the operation methods differ.

Several characters and elements from Kaeru no Tame ni Kane wa Naru, including Prince Richard, make cameo appearances in the Game Boy title The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening.

Super Mario Land is fun. Very basic by today's standards but its a good game. Also if I remember correctly the princess turns into an insect the first time you meet her, so it's got that going for it...

The irony that I literally just bought an OG gameboy to play Tetris, SML and Alleyway on holiday 🤦‍♂️

Works out about £8 a year with the expansion pack family pass. Great value even if you only play couple times a year imo

Alleyway looks super boring in the trailer that Nintendo put out, but the game is really good. Its addictive and well worth a play.

Alleyway was legitimately how I got into gaming. Whenever my dad would let me play his game it I’d be on that.

Just looking at the cover art for SML makes me head twitch with all sorts of memories and emotions.

Anyone else have the Nintendo sticker album where some of them would be sections of the levels?

At least there’s no button mapping issues with gameboy. Most of the n64 titles are unplayable for me without the added expense of a new controller.
