Nintendo Wii console pre owned dropped a bit in price at CeX, now £20 instore or £21.50 delivered and comes with a 2 year warranty. Next best price I can see is £24.99 after £10 discount at Music Magpie but only 1 year warranty. Probably best to buy instore so you can see the condition before you buy.

The 2 year warranty from CEX is better than most warranties on brand new gadgets and appliances! Don't know how they do it! Has anyone has experience with their warranty on used items?
I bought a Nvidia Shield Tv box of CEX and within 18 months the unit died they tested it to make sure it wasn't accidental damage and gave me a voucher to the original value, there policy is repair replace or refund but they were good throughout but keep your recipt if your paying cash as they will refund or keep your E reciept if your buying online
Nice price.

Lack of digital A/V (unlike the gamecube) can make it a pain to get a good picture on a modern telly though.

anyone in north london can have my old one, just 1 controller though for a tenner
Great considering you can homebrew this too.

HDMI adaptor is recommended, couple quid from eBay to help image on non-crt TVS
usually pick up from cash converters from £15-20 anyways if you rather save alittle and don't care about a 2 year warranty.
lot of gaming still left on these units. my 6 year old loves it

Didn't realize you could "home brew" the Wii. You need a PC to do it?

Yeah if you try to take anything back they just claim that fault was caused by the user and refuse to refund it.

I second the hdmi route, or a composite cable around £4 on eBay. Makes the picture much sharper on larger LCD displays

Yes I have, good luck if you have any issues as they will fight you before honouring the warranty.

I managed to get a pretty good picture with an HDMI converter.

No Pc needed, easy to do and much more convenient storing your Wii/GameCube collection on a hard drive.

It’s a franchise so can probably differ from store to store, glad you found a good branch. My branch at Chesterfield sold me a faulty phone, then told me that I’d have to have it independently tested for the fault before they would honour the warranty or I could sell it back to them at a loss. Total scumbags.

The gamecube has digital A/V? are you sure about that? as far as I knew its best option was component video (which most PAL games disabled) and the cable is crazy money now! The Wii also has Component out btw and then there is the £3 hdmi converter you can buy on ebay if your tv does not support Component.

Yes the original DOL-001 has a digital AV port but you need an adapter to convert it to an HDMI spec signal (as Nintendo never actually brought an hdmi cable out sadly) such as the Carby - gamesconnection.co.uk/pro…ube

Sadly it isn't cheap but does provide a perfect digital output with no introduced lag or loss in quality - Even on GBA games

The Gamecube digital port outputs digital yes but the official cable has a built in digital to analogue converter than then makes it analogue before getting to your TV :/ Don't know personally if the cables such as the carby Converts the digital signal to HDMI or converts a component ypbpr signal? I play my Gamecube on a CRT broadcast monitor I do have a wii in the front room that looks fine on the 4K tv going through component.
These seem to be going up, rather than down, in price...

It’s garbage.... after a certain time it becomes the lesser of what you paid or the current value....

HDMI adapter makes it convenient to connect, but it does NOT improve the image quality. If anything, it degrades it a bit. But the convenience is worth it if your TV does not have component inputs.
Softmodded, it's a great retro & modern gaming platform
Great deal, my daughters still play on our old Wii as much as they do on the PS4. The graphics don't compare, but they love the social gameplay.

It's great that families can pick up cheap gadgets like this we haven't all got deep pockets for the latest consoles,I bought a second hand gamecube years after it's release for my lad and he loved it and the games were cheap as chips,he still plays it sometimes when he gets off his laptop

The early GameCubes did then Nintendo removed it in later European models.
Prefer Black
Great for soft modding and retro gaming. Add a usb hard drive and stick a tone of games on it.
however these can be picked up for £15 rather than £20
its not bad.
yet on a car boot sale i see full sets with 2 remotes, steering wheels, games(!!!), sometimes balance board.
£10 usually for a full bag.
good luck
Alright if you want the warranty, but I bought one on gumtree for £20 with loads of extras so depends what you're after I suppose.

CeX is basically a pawn shop for nerds. Like any pawn shop, they can't be trusted in any way.
The warranty is a sham: you don't really have a 2 year warranty. You (supposedly) have 30 days where, if it breaks, you get a voucher for the price you paid; after the 30 days, you have 6 months where they'll refund you for any faults; then 5 months where they'll repair/replace it. After that, you have 18 months where, when it breaks, they'll offer you the "current value" in voucher form.

The staff training is the same as your average phone shop owner (you know, the shops that open and close every few months in the town centre?), meaning repairs are waaaaay out of their league.
So what the warranty actually equates to is 6 months where they'll replace it if it breaks. Outside of that, but within the 2 years, they'll give you a voucher for the buying price (currently £13).
And they will fight you for any claims you try to make. Best bet is to avoid like the plague...

Dire. Had a phone fail under warranty and they just flat out refused to honour the warranty. Made up some nonsense about marks on the charge port (which had been working). Had bought quite a bit from CEX to be honest not least on account of the warranty, but it's a joke.

Many modern TVs don't have component inputs from the likes of Samsung, LG, Sony...

Also it may look fine but it will look better using a good ADC such as the RetroTink/OSSC.

Going to chime in here as multiple friends are CEX managers and I am aware of their processes.

Manager discretion is involved with any warranty return. Phones are particularly sensitive items when it comes to warranty, people do not read the terms and conditions then kick up a fuss when they get declined with phone having clear signs of drop damage, cracked screens etc....

If you went to one and they said no, then fair enough. If you indeed went to multiple cex and they all said the same thing, you are striaght lieing, a good portion of them have technical abilities of entry level hardware engineer.

Also to add, consoles go through rigious testing on trade in, and warranty submission. You should never receive a dud, and if you do you can take it back immediately.

Is there any advantage over the other options (SNES/PS classic etc.)? It looks like it's another solid 16 bit emulation machine with patchy support for later consoles, and gamecube compatibility although I can't think of any GC games I'd want to play.

All have pros and cons. But Wii is cheap as chips, easy to set up with a raft of emulators for various consoles. Good modding support. Can support a wide range of controllers etc
