So are GameCube games too but you'd need to "unlock" the Wii Mode in order to do so.

There are some tutorials in the net but I never did it myself. You might loose warranty so be aware..
HEAT, am sure one or two will be happy to pick of 1 of these games so cheap.

Check GBATemp those guys know all about it. I've thought about it but I have an "unlocked" Wii with an SD Card so I'm alright.
Is the website down?
Never mind it's working now, was getting an error before.
The Wii U will never play GameCube discs.

it will play GameCube and wii isos if it is hacked. not "unlocked" "jail broken" or whatever.

really stupid statement to make on a post with cheap wii games. :s

Thanks a bunch, Slain. I'm sure no one would ever figure out what "unlock" would have meant but now they do.

You're best off going down to a second hand shop, you'll probably find a Wii going for about £10, but GC controllers will possibly cost more.
Thats Entertainment used to be great for getting cheap games for the PSP & 360 etc, but the site runs like a dog now. You tell it you want to see all titles at £1.99, and you get a whole bunch of different pricepoints thrown in with the results.

It is not difficult but it does require having an exploitable Wii game and the method is slightly different depending on the game you use, so make sure you read through a tutorial a few times before going ahead so that you don't make any mistakes. There is the chance of bricking the vWii (virtual Wii - the Wii U's Wii mode) but the tutorial should have you make a NAND backup first so that you'd be able to recover from a brick - but obviously you'd be better off if you get it right the first time!
If you don't want to risk it then bare in mind that you could get a second hand Wii for £10-20 and that would play GameCube games from disc as-is, or you could softmod it and get it to play GC and Wii games from a USB drive.

It's frustrating - Nintendo could have so easily made the Wii U run GameCube games from the disc drive natively. I thought maybe they'd done that so that they could sell GameCube games digitally on the eShop, but nope. So I'm glad we have Nintendont but, yeah, it's not a simple case of 'unlocking' it.

Nintendo is like a kid batting blindly at a pinata lately. A lot to learn, and totally oblivious to how the gaming market has changed.

Offering GBA, DS and Snes digitally on the Wii U, but not the 3DS... Still no trophies or achievements, despite them rolling out "accomplishments" to the streetpass square years ago... They're a really confused company.

I hope the NX rectifies so many issues I have right now, because I love and support the company, but I also have Sony consoles, and lately, quite a bit of my money has been going there... Nintendo wise, I've bought 54 amiibo this year (yes, ridiculous. That just hit me the other day). But Sony isn't perfect either. They pick up only the balls Nintendo drops, then runs off to play a different game entirely...

But yes, the Wii U easily could have taken gamecube discs. But it doesn't. buuuut...

Have an old Wii handy. get an Wii2HDMI adapter from ebay for about a tenner. The quality output with this is higher than my official Wii component was, and it's indistinguishable from the Wii U's wii mode. That right there will allow the best play of old cube titles.

Let's see, you actually think it'd be OK to write on the main post as:

"You can play GameCube games for free on your Wii U by hacking the vWii with the following tools and then here's how to use Nintendont which is what you'll need to play GameCube titles." not illegal at all.

There is in fact a Wii U emulator on PC which will in the future be able to play Wii U backups so defeats the point of buying a Wii U once it's stable.

Name of the Wii U emulator? Cemu.
thanks, ordered rampage to play on the wii u...

I didn't say anything about rewriting the main post, did I? I was answering another user's question, which was prompted by you mentioning it in the first place. Nintendont itself isn't illegal so there's nothing wrong with telling people about it or how to install it - and running games through it won't be illegal if you own original copies, which I would assume people did.

What do you mean it will be able to play backups 'in the future'? It runs games from ripped disc images, i.e. backups, so running from backups is not only possible now, it's required, as the emulator doesn't run games from DVD.

Yeah, I was just complaining about this on another thread the other day - how I'd love to have more NES, SNES and GBA games on the 3DS but they keep releasing them on the Wii U instead. It's great that they're being released and great that they could be played on the gamepad, but why not release them on both platforms, maybe even offering crossbuy like on the PS3/PSP? They started doing a really great job with backwards compatibiltiy and retro games with the Virtual Console back in the Wii days and now just seem to have given up on it. I'd quite happily buy a few GameCube titles on the Wii U - anything that I don't already have or didn't play back in the day - but it doesn't look like I'm going to get the chance.

It's not enabled and the console needs to be hacked so as such it is illegal. Just one of those matters the user has to decide which side he/she wants to be on.

Wii U games use 25GB Blu-ray Discs but the Cemu emulator will just load up the file like you'd expect an emulator.

P.S. I've hacked my Wii, PSTV and PSP but again, it's not a legal thing to do though it is your own machine so you make the calls what they're used for.
Couldn't find HDMI2Wii anywhere on fleabay did find a Wii2HDMI adapter though joking aside did not know about these many thanks for heads up. Got one for £7

Yeah but I'd like to play the games now rather than 5 years when compatability and stability has increased, plus you are missing the game pad

Ah, I see what you mean. Fortunately I still have one packed away with my Gamecube! I loved the Gamecube, don't get me wrong, but there's very little exclusive software left that's worth the effort. The better games are all available elsewhere.
this is a good deal!
