32Gb HDD (PREMIUM PACK) WITH NINTENDO LAND GAME

Miiverse

Miiverse is a brand new network communication system that lets gamers from around the world share experiences, discuss games and discover new content.

Using their personalised Mii character, players enter Miiverse and see games, applications or entertainment content that either they have interacted with recently, expressed interest in learning more about or that their friends are using or discussing.

From here they can challenge their friends to play together, ask a question about a difficult level or discover new elements of their favourite games they never knew existed. After a notable achievement or other share-worthy moment, players can pause their game or application and seamlessly post messages to the Miiverse community.

TV Remote

The Wii U GamePad may also function as an infrared TV Remote, whether users are watching TV or playing a game.
Near Field Communication (NFC)

The Wii U GamePad has the ability to communicate wirelessly with objects that are held above it. This allows for a variety of interesting new possibilities for games and activities.

Video Entertainment

Nintendo is working with other partners to bring video experiences to Wii U that will take advantage of the integrated second-screen experience. Additional details will be released at a later time.
Video Chat

Using the built-in camera of the Wii U GamePad, people can communicate with other Wii U owners in real time.

Wii U comes with a browser that lets people with a wireless Internet connection surf the Internet from the comfort of their couches. Using the simple controls on the Wii U GamePad, it's possible to display your favourite web pages on the TV to share with family and friends, or just browse the web on the GamePad without using the TV. You can even use the browser when you are in the middle of a game!

Upgradable. But I agree it should be more.

32GB HDD in 2012?

I was confused with this aswell but then I heard Nintendos reasoning and it became clear. They say the price of HDD is coming down so quickly that theres no point including a huge one at extra cost to us because they can't drop the price of the console at the same rate at which the price of the HDDs drop. So they say u can add any one you want whenever you want and so people who dnt need it won't have to pay anymore.

I'm not a intends fan myself but this seems like a very smart thing to do. Good for people who buy coz it's cheaper and you can buy a HDD for cheaper than they would've charged you if it was included. Seems like a win win for me.
Anyone getting a Wii U should get the 32GB version because its flash memory so faster loading etc.
This is because the USB ports are 2.0 which has an average speed of 20MB/s (same with disc reading). Moreover class 10 SD cards max speeds are only around 10MB/s.
Edited by: "Pikachu" 14th Sep 2012
I've got a 500gb Hitachi usb HDD sitting around doing nothing and transfers are about 35mb/s write 50mb/s read on the provided cable so it'll be faster than the xbox 360 HDD at loading games for sure. I'm glad the basic comes with only 8gb cos my drive is more than enough to go fully digital with all games.
Plus can't afford premium console cos I want mario so going to buy basic and mario. Already got some pro controls, cables, hdmi etc and wiimotes so meh don't care about nintendo land it looks ****

Every Premium pack comes with Nintendo Land, it's part of the European (and US i think) pack.

You'd probably be better off going for the ZombiU deal from Zavvi, it comes with the ZombiU game and the Pro controller aswell, which you'd be able to trade for more than the extra you're paying (thats if the ZombiU game doesn't replace NintendoLand anyway, which Amazon doesn't seem to think so).
I still think Amazon is the place to order. Their delivery is quick and they are excellent at price matching. Ordering anywhere else normally means swapping when another site goes cheaper.

I'd never order from Zavvi unless you don't mind waiting for yours to turn up while everyone else is enjoying theirs.
I posted a Zombie U pack yesterday for £330 which includes a pro controller and Zombie U, today you can find the same for £300 on The Hut AND with a 10% off code I got, it worked out at £270. I will stick with this, for now..........
Amazon have consistently been terrible for me over the years with game preorders, other retailers go out of their way to ensure preorders arrive on release date, Amazon don't, they usually just send on the day its released so you don't get it until days later. I would never preorder a game with them again, last time I complained about not getting a preorder until 4 days after it's release date when plenty of game retailers ensure it arrives on time, they told me that it was tough basically and that they didn't say I would get it for release date - fair enough I suppose they didn't, but it's still crap service compared to what others offer (and I think they are the best online retailer out there for everything else).

I'm not sure how well they'll do with console preorders though, maybe they'll get them to people on time because it's not something they can just shove in the normal post.

Has the code actually worked and is it a general code? I have a zavvi one and they don't work on consoles.

Except the price does not reflect this common sense.

Maybe, but if you say the controller is £100, the basic console is £150, which is then £30 less than the wii on launch. Factor in the cost of the wiimote and nunchuck and their about even.
Sorry, but anything above £250 for the Premium should be rated cold.

In the US, the Basic model is the same price as the 250GB 360 there ($300). So we should get the Basic as the same price as our 250GB 360 (£180, which just happens to be the same price the Wii launched at) and the Premium anywhere up to £250.
Ok I may sound stupid but some state doesn't pay sales tax for their product unless stated otherwise so the announced US price is pretty much without tax. If people were to preorder from Amazon US, they would be paying sale tax by the time the Wii U is out so it would be more than announced price...obviously. Also you need to consider that they pay between 1%-9% sales tax compare to us where if I remember correctly we have 20% vat which is a huge toll on us when buying new game console. I know it's more expensive in the UK than Japan and US but we been dealing with these kind of price for new game console for YEARS. Even if you were to import the Wii U for whatever reason, you would still ending up paying import tax and handling fee which probably comes close to how much it cost in the UK.

Anyway as for me, I'm going to pass on this! I have a couple of model kits coming in the release month so I won't be able to buy it. Even without it I wouldn't buy it since the majority of the announced game are just pointless ports. There's only like 2 games that interest me which is Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate and Bayonetta 2. I'll just wait for more games to be announced and for a price drop.

We're not in the US and unless the US version can work here there is no point comparing. The RRP on the Premium is £309.99. So this is a good deal for this but the zavvi Zombie U edition is better.
Code's not working now :-(
I didn't do a US/UK price conversion. I'm not stupid, I'm well aware of taxes etc. I'm pointing out what you get for your money compared to other consoles, and in the US, the Base Wii U is the same as the Premium 360. Whereas here, the Base is at least £60 more than our Premium 360.

The code worked for me (it's a 'new customer' code). Considering nintendo themselves tweeted that the zombiu bundle will NOT include nintendoland, this is the best deal so far. Thanks OP.

I wish people would stop saying HDD for flash memory. It's not the same thing. The Wii-U doesn't even have a HDD. Yeah force of habit and all and I'm not blaming the poster but when people put things like "32GB HDD in 2012?!?!?" they look stupid because this console has no HDD at all. Flash memory is much faster than a hard disk and I would say that having a HDD in 2012 would be more obsolete than going with a small amount of flash. Better to have lightning fast load times than a massive hard drive that is going to waste. It will support external HDDs, SSDs and SD cards and so storage is limitless for those that need it. I applaud Nintendo for going this route but you will always get people screaming that you can get a 320gb PS3 for less than a 32GB Wii U and therefore Wii U is a rip off.

why would it load fast if they use proprietary high-density optical discs @ 25gb for games. You can hardly install to flash memory given size of nand and media. Usb2 is not the best interface to use for fast access which is what external storage will use isn't it ? is there an e-sata interface for ssd or does that have to use ehci as well ?
Woke up this morning to find a "your order has been refused" email from sainsburys???

Not all Wii U title is going to be 25GB. The blu-ray disc can hold around 50GB but most games use only 25% of it (12.5GB).
ps3news.com/for…tml

So you will be able to install a couple of games on the internal flash drive.

The install feature has not been mentioned. Seeing the Wii U disc speed is going to be 22.5MB/sec, its quite possible there won't be an install option (more than doubles ps3 disc speed, hence the mandatory installs). However in this day and age, you would expect them to give this option (optical is dying i.e. Apple has now removed optical drives from their Macbook Pro lines). With only disc reading, the disc will be constantly spinning so will be noisy, overheating and shorter laser life.
6x is 25* meg a sec and 4x is 17* so it appears drive read speed must be 6x and throttled / bottlenecked at 22.5MB/s from either 6x or maybe even 34meg with 8x read. Which is why usb 2 loading will be same so no point in using SSD or will be reason for no usb 3.0.

Apple removing optical is just greed for the sake of £10 and I bet they then upped the price £30 after removing it.

Optical maybe dying but it's not dead and a long way off from being redundant don't believe the hype for one minute.

Optical drive servo /components failing after 1 years has never been the concern of Sony/ Nintendo/ Microsoft

Nothing wrong with the basic. When you consider the cost. Do you really need mini games like Nintendo Land offer? The 8gb vs 32gb not really an issue due you download many games and even if you did, when you consider one game may be 25gb a 32gb console is still going to need external hdd same as the basic. Either way your going to need extra hdd if you download so not a problem. Premium only gets 10% of credit back for each game providing 500 points remain in credit. You'd have to buy 10 games to be able to get one for nothing. When most will be splashing out on new wii u disc games don't see this as an issue either. Also a mater of the stands with the premium, if you can get by without them would it really be worth splashing out another £50.00 or so? Remembering that your going to want new games as well much better I think to go for the basic if you already have a wii you have everything you need to be up and running anyway. why waste on what you can do without when you can use it for a game you really want. Unless of course you were desperately wanting the black version and lets face it we didn't have a choice except for white when the wii was released.

The basic is what I'm getting and actually buying a couple of games that I intend to play rather than sell on ebay or leave stuffed in the box somewhere.
I would rather Nintendoland & a pro controller over ZombiU i think.. is it better to do that than buy the ZombiU bundle that you get the pro controller with and buying Nintendoland seperately?
you have to be brand new customer to use that voucher :-(
I just tried the code in the basket and it came out at £269.99. So that's the best I have seen so far!

Just ordered the premium wii u and also got Mario World at the same time so saved 10% on that too. Whole lot was £310 ish.
The only downside to the order is that as it is my first, I have to get it delivered to my billing address therefore I cannot get it sent to my workplace!!! Bit annoying but I can live with it.
Cheers,

Same for me too. Great! I have no problem with it being delivered to my home address but does anyone know what Sainsburys are like with pre-ordering things? Do they dispatch for delivery on the day of release or do they dispatch on the day of release?

I want to book the day off work when it comes out!
worked for me too at £269.99 so pre-ordered, cheers!
Got it for £269.99 too! But wondering what they are like for delivery
