Good price but you'd get a little more out of buying it at Tesco if you've got a clubcard (Points and use of possible vouchers plus Quidco)
Heat added and I await the multitude of comments saying it's too expensive, they'll bite when it's under £100 and wait for the NX. It's usually a bit entertaining

Lets be honest, it's not the best deal ever for a Wii U. I got Splatoon/Kart 8 and the pro controller for £220.00

"Let me borrow your time machine etc". The point is to demonstrate it's a decent price, but not an incredible one. You're only saving around £20 for what they usually cost.

If anyone wants a Wii U I'd suggest waiting. At the moment there is a stock shortage and so prices won't drop much.

The best prices for the Wii U were a couple of years ago when the games library wasn't as extensive. Pro Controllers were routinely £20 and the Premium console with game was typically £200 or less in good deals. Now there are several mainstream big titles available for the Wii U so it's more desirable and there's no need for low prices to boost sales. Until clearance hits maybe a year after the NX is released, assuming it is in some way a replacement, this is likely to be as good as it gets. I would say you're looking at mid - late 2017 for that, which is a long time to wait for the sake of £50 or so.
Use Flubit to get more off.

"As good as it's going to get"

It was £179.99 2 days ago for the limited edition lol

1 month ago it was £176 for Splatoon+ MK8 Bundle

2 months ago was £220 for Splatoon + Mk8 + Pro controller (Around £120-30 for the console itself)

It's difficult to predict console prices, especially ones that are going to be "last gen" very soon. Maybe Nintendo will want to cash in before the NX is announced. Maybe they won't.

As I said, decent deal but I think £200 is too much for now and I'd advise waiting.
wait long enough you'll find one charity shop for a tenner.

fun consoles brilliant games.

I'm not going to argue that it is not the best Wii U deal to come along - I got a better deal when I bought mine over two years ago, but the point is, even then, people were saying it was too expensive and it would be around £100 in the coming year - I am more mocking the average comment you get in a Wii U thread. As for the time machine thing, I've argued against that idea on a few occasions myself as well as the idea that if it is the cheapest you can currently get something for then it is a hot deal.

A premium Wii U with a good game for under £200 though is a decent deal and, beyond getting lucky with a clearance deal, isn't too far from the cheapest they've been sold. Hence I would give this deal some heat.

The funniest thing is that the longer you delay, the more expensive the good games tend to become with some just seeming to vanish. The only gaming system where I find I pay less for a game during the release window than six months down the line.

I sometimes wonder if Nintendo do this on purpose. They just tend to stop printing games out of the blue, even though they're popular. Bizarre

Doubtful. All games have print runs - it's all about managing that supply. Nintendo keeps a tight ship on inventory (especially because of all the pressure in recent years to keep operating costs down). Unsold stock is wasteful. But having no stock upsets the customer. Hard balance to strike and whomever solves that problem will be rich.

£179.99 is for the Zelda bundle at Argos. Stock availability is sporadic and you have to travel too.

I don't know the details of the other deals you refer to but am 99% sure they were pre-Christmas deals so are extremely unlikely to be replicated soon.

Something might pop up that works out as £10 or £20 less, but for the time you miss out of not having the console is it worth it? People have been saying they'll pick one up when it's "inevitably" less than £100 in the near future for years and it's not happened yet and realistically it's not going to happen soon.
Flubit might be able to knock a couple pounds off (money, not weight :p).

You're making a huge deal out of it. Wii U doesn't sell well so figures the price doesn't change albeit retailers could sell for a lower price but they'd be the ones losing profit.

Great find FD.

For those who fancy Splatoon too, Amazon now has the Mario Kart & Splatoon double game console pack for an extra £22.87

(Smyths also still have the double pack for £219.99)

I knew before Easter last year I was going to be getting a Wii U for kids Xmas and started looking into the games of interest and picking them up straight away. Why not just start buying the games now if they are the right price? As long as you know your going to buy a Wii U, it makes sense.

Dead console? Many huge titles coming in 2016 are Star Fox Zero, Zelda, Zelda Twilight Princess HD, Pokken, Just to name a few
Can't believe this price. Got mine the months after release of Mario Kart 8 for £180
To be honest if you were willing to pay £199 you have probably bought it by now; there's been plenty of chances to get for this or less.

Don't know current deals for xbox one and ps4 but they are a better investment unless there's a specific wii u game you want.

Not really. Not making any deal out of it - My explanation is based on standard economics, logistics, and market pricing, and was in answer to the query about whether Nintendo manipulates print runs of their games. Supply and demand. The reasoning that the Wii U doesn't sell well therefore the price doesn't change is unsound (and unrelated to this particular topic).

I've solved it! Go digital only and make the games cheaper!
The problem is people were saying to wait for a price drop 2 years ago when you could pick up a premium and a game for £180, and a basic for £140.
It didn't happen, and it probably won't happen until it's succeeded. Look at the price today and buy it for that, not what was.

Whilst I think "dead" is a little bit dramatic, people were saying the same thing when both the 360 and PS3 were winding down at the beginning of 2013. £200 for a soon to be outdated console? Nah, no way. If it's poorly supported as far as consoles go, just now when it's the current Nintendo flagship product, it's only going to become less so once the NX hits the shelves.

I get it has some very good exclusives, but it will be lucky to see anything else this time next year if the rumors are true regarding the eta of the NX.

I'd like cheaper games too but going digital doesn't make it more likely - none of them (Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo) want to **** off their retail partners. And Ubisoft defended their own high prices for their digital releases.

Buying it now doesn't make every previous release obsolete though and there have been very good games since launch. I take the point that you're mainly talking about future releases but there are still several high profile releases to come. Your amount of current enjoyment doesn't (shouldn't?) diminish just because of what might happen in the future.

Thats very true. Ive never seen games hold there price or get more expensive over time than on the Wii U.
This console is dead. Nintendo will ditch their "Living Room" console and will focus on portable & "app" gaming.
