Original Poster

Yes, and they confirm that they will continue making them.

Like everyone else in the gaming community I had completely forgotten all about them.

Might actually get knew of these at this price, pretty cheap imo, are there any good games on it though?
Sure I read ea was gonna have the pad doing in game subs and formation on fly and haven't they just said they not making games for it?

Wait until 2014 when some games are released for it and the console will be much cheaper.

I'm in the gaming community and I haven't forgotten about it.

Cue "yeah but" nonsense defence.

pretty sure the GAF hasnt forgotten about it with daily ninty bashing threads

mr matt may I ask why you write what you write. It seems massively unconstructive, even bordering on rude. It just really intrigues me

Yeah. Get a life dude.

Bought one for 200 a week ago. Darn

Amazon have matched it.

It's like the Dreamcast in all ways but one, the Dreamcast was Great!

Already a deal up for this from Asda. With Amazon link alternative in the comments.

Premium around this price and i'm in. I expected MS especially to offer a twin screen option linking the rumoured Xbox tablet but unless there sitting on that (I'd doubt it now..) than the different angle the Wii U offers has got to be worth a punt. Just not the basic version as 1: it's white and 2: I'm sure i've read that the 8gb storage hobbles it's use.

I think people need to go and look at what they are really investing in when they buy a Wii U; it's the biggest con I've ever seen in 30 years of being a console owner.

My remarks may be facetious but they are well deserved and just because a bunch of Nintendo fanboys will no doubt come to defend the honour of the Wii U it doesn't make it a decent console and the sales figures (25k worldwide last week) are a warning about any future support (3rd and 1st party) that this turd of a console is likely to get. I grew up on Nintendo and have nothing buy great memories up until the Gamecube but the Wii U is a poorly thought out, rushed mess of a gimmicky console that people are being suckered into buying just because of the Nintendo seal of quality.

You make about as much sense as an alcoholic gypsy. You've been sitting in the sun too much mate.

Actually that is true as I live in Thailand as it is hot as hell here everyday, but that doesn't mean I am wrong.

+1 - i'm no fanboy - just a gamer and I like the idea of a second screen and the options that could bring.

Doesn't mean you're right, either. It amazes me how people who don't want a Wii U spend their time in Wii U threads sounding off about how much they don't want one... It's just complete and utter insanity. I don't want 60" LED TV... what... should I haunt every 60" TV thread explaining the virtues of 32" TVs?

Makes. No. Sense.

Lol, I know, right? Just read like a load of jibberish.

Still no games 8 months in.

1st party games not releasing until 2014 and 3rd party support dropping the console altogether.

A gimmicky low res tablet that nobody wants to use to play games on a home console that sucked resources away from the rest of the R&D of the console.

A maximum 32GB harddrive (I have 48GB on my phone!) forcing you to buy an external drive.

Released too late to compete with the 7th gen of consoles where it should've been, but at the same time released when the real next gen is about to start and nobody wants to play Wii HD games with a tablet.

Having no ethernet port is just of the things showing how much Nintendo scrimped on this console to be able to bundle in a useless tablet.

the WiiU is great, at least hardware-wise. Nintendo land shows off what the controller combinations can be used for to great effect. I imagine that future releases will continue to make better use of the hardware. Currently, though, the software is lacking. As someone who games primarily on a reasonably powerful PC, I'd say the WiiU is far fresher and more interesting than the PS4 or Xbox One.

I have to say, if you can only afford one form of gaming-entertainment, then the WiiU is probably not the best for you. If, however you have a good gaming PC or are intending to get a next gen console. The WiiU is great fun, and a very good option for gaming with mates. The gamepad-screen is put to fantastic use in some games - especially nintendo land, and adds some pretty cool "asymmetrical" gameplay ideas - ruling out any kind of screen watching enables a different level of excitement is very simple multiplayer games.

No games? There are no games on Wii U? None? Zero?

1st party games not releasing until 2014 and 3rd party support dropping the console altogether.

1st party games are already out. What's NSMBU. What's Nintendo Land? What's Pikmin 3? 2013 What's Donky Kong Country? What's Wii Fit U
3rd party dropping? What's Watch_Dogs? What's Splinter Cell? What's CoD: Ghosts?

A gimmicky low res tablet that nobody wants to use to play games on a home console that sucked resources away from the rest of the R&D of the console.

Playing full-fat console games on a touchscreen controller without the need for a TV... is a gimmick? If you are looking for people to swallow this horse **** you might be disappointed. Look at what developers are doing now. 2nd screen experience is big, MS and Sony are trying to copy it... and the Wii U does it right out of the box as standard. So those are gimmicks too? Yeah... I didn't think so.

A maximum 32GB harddrive (I have 48GB on my phone!) forcing you to buy an external drive.

So? Don't MS and Sony sell or did sell PS3s and 360s without any hard drives whatsoever? Yeah... and? Why force people to pay for something they might not need? I won't be downloading full retail games, only buying discs. The Wii U HD is an SSD, which are far more expensive per GB than the bog standard HDDs. USB HDDs are dirt cheap anyway. What's your problem? In your words above "it only takes R&D money away".

Released too late to compete with the 7th gen of consoles where it should've been, but at the same time released when the real next gen is about to start and nobody wants to play Wii HD games with a tablet.

You're such a babba. Wii HD games? Heat stroke mate... heat stroke.

Takes R&D away mannnnnn. Everyone has WiFi these days, and if you don't, you can just buy the USB Ethernet connector for pennies.

You don't like the Wii U, fine, leave the thread. Don't fill it up with delusional BS. Please. Get a grip.

Don't count on EA or put eggs in the basket. If you like playing mostly 3rd party stuff and are only getting one console and don't have a PC, then the Wii U might not be for you. EA aren't spending resources on it at the minute, so no Fifa 14 ect. However, games lke Watch_Dogs, Splinter Cell and Call of Duty Ghosts have been confirmed.

mr matt, look up a release schedule. starting next month is a big title every month till end of this year. Ive also not bought a HDD yet. ive also played a lot of Off-tv Play and this is actually very liked by people who own them. ethernet port - sucks for people who like incredibly reliable connection but the vast majority would just use wifi (and yeah some did have wifi issues, i know).

You really come off as someone who wrote it off, skim read hyperbolic media and really know nothing. e.g. your schedule release is wrong by a ways. your 25k figure is made up. (sales are low during this drought, but there are no worldwide sales figures, you get american guesswork figures from NPD, and some japan guesswork figures, but euro has none).

edit: as madeinbeats has been saying, why are you even in this thread? you dont have product experience with it, and you are just crying about it and not discussing the deal. your third comment alludes to commentary but is pure speculation, your first two comments completely antagonistic. its sad.

25k is the best data I can find (and that was a good week, the week before was 22k!!), if you have a better source then tell me how many Wii U's are being sold please?

Mr Matt

So let's say you are right, then why is it selling so poorly right now??

Nintendo have delayed games... a lot... because switching to HD development took them slightly by surprise. The launch was rushed and the OS suffered. The Nintendo board haven't yet wanted to spend money on advertising it unless the OS was patched and they had games finished and lined up to create "sales momentum". Any money spent advertising early on would have been wasted because the games weren't lined up (delayed) and so, "momentum" would have been lost. It's all documented in investor meeting minutes available on the net.

The launch was a disaster, that doesn't mean the console is a disaster. I think they plan advertising blitz starting with Pikmin, then Wonderful 101, etc, etc,

Anyway... gotta' go fire the BBQ up.

Mr Matt

So let's say you are right, then why is it selling so poorly right now??

It's price and maybe because "gamers" like you keep spreading this rubbish around wherever you go to anyone who will listen. The same thing that has damaged the Vita.

Seriously, everyone was proclaiming how PS3/360 would destroy the Wii in sales due to it's tech. Didn't happen.
Everyone was claiming that the PS3 would go the way of the Dreamcast. Didn't happen.
Everyone claimed that the Vita would do the same as it has better hardware than the 3DS. Didn't happen.

Here we are. New Gen. Same old rubbish. I guarantee the death bells will be ringing too once Xbox One and PS4 releases.

Bottom line is: NEW CONSOLES TAKE A COUPLE OF YEARS TO ESTABLISH THEMSELVES. IT HAPPENS EVERY SINGLE GENERATION!

Don't forget, the PS3 had a bad first couple of years, and it took a while for games to come out and consoles to shift.

Mr Matt

NPD -> Monthly USA. Famitsu/something -> weekly japanese (was about 6k).
cite otherwise though.

Which is exactly what I said; there are no games for it. Even now there hasn't been one 1st party game released since the launch has there? Wario, does that really count? Luigi U is just DLC and NSMBU so I wouldn't count that. So the first 1st party game (Pikmin 3) is finally being released next month, 9 months after launch.

vgchartz.com is the best source I can come up with and, while it might not be 100% accurate, I am betting that the Wii U sold somewhere in the 25k units region worldwide last week.

G&W hasnt reviewed well, but you cant discount it because of (?). Luigi U is every course in the game re-done, and actually came boxed and stand alone, so kinda counts NSMBU would count but it was launch.

That is kinda true, but the PS3 never, ever sold anything as bad as 22k a week worldwide. The worst week it ever had was a blip from 80k down to 50k one week BEFORE THE PS3 WAS RELEASED IN EUROPE. After that it consistently sold 100k+ even before the big AAA games were released.

And people comparing this to the Dreamcast, the difference is the Dreamcast was a decent piece of kit released with suitable hardware for it's era. The Wii U is seriously lacking and doesn't do anything a 7 year old PS3 cannot do.
