The Gym Group are currently running a 12-hour sale where their joining fee (was £20) is waived if you sign up for membership at any (edit: *most*) of their nationwide gyms.

They currently have 42 sites nationwide, with more opening soon.

One or two very busy sites which have a waiting list, are excluded from this offer (such as London Waterloo and Brighton).

Currently the cheapest membership sites are at The Gym Swansea and Southampton (£9.99 per month), with most others being between £13.99-£15.99.

UPDATE 22:15, 17/2/14:
Looks like they are keeping the no joining fee promotion at selected locations, and others have had the joining fee discounted to £10 or £15.

Nice offer.

I joined the one in North Harrow a while ago, but left soon after it opened as whoever designed the building made it so that the sun was continually in your face on half of the treadmills.

Still hot offer.

Good value for money, but wonder what if anything will change when the merger with PureGym goes through.

Voted hot. Doesnt apply to all Gyms however. Brighton is still £20

I wonder how long their clever marketing people took to come up with the company name....hmm...

cool. time to pump some iron

they are merging with pure gym in april....

Am I missing something? It says it is from £10.99 a month, not £9.99?

The Gym Swansea and Southampton are £9.99 a month. Other sites start from £10.99.

Ahh man see what you did, I've bloody joined a gym and I have an induction course tomorrow now. I hope you're happy.

No joining fee at Better leisure centre's too, till 28 Feb.

north harrow still 17.99 and joining fee £20 so is not included in the offer

worse gym ever!

Your first Direct Debit payment of £37.99 will be taken by us on or just after 27 February 2014.
This payment consists of:
- £20.00 joining fee
- £17.99 membership fee.
Subsequent monthly payments of £17.99 will commence one month after you are released from the waiting list. Payments will then continue on or just after the same day of each month thereafter.

Damn... in January East Croydon was 10.99 with no joining fee... now its 16.99 thegymgroup.com/new…on/ It used to be a hot deal. Now not so much.

Gym and solarium in one? They should charge extra for that! X)

worse gym ever!

witch branch ? why ?

damn not the one near me that's still 20.99

The acton gym is particularity bad, good deal if you have a good local one

Great deal, thanks OP.

All gym's should be around these prices. Some of the ones near me are extortionate. I hope this company merges and takes over more and more locations; hopefully forcing other companies to start reducing their prices to reasonable rates.

£20-£25 a month is reasonable... £40-£60 certainly is not.

do you mean the puregym in acton?

Nice offer - £15.99 a month at Norwich

London Waterloo (as stated in the opening post) is not included in this deal. That's one damn busy gym... has a waiting list just to get membership. Pants.

I hope they open another one nearby since it's so popular. LW is too overcrowded even at non-peak times.

I agree. A friend of mine pays around £100 a month for himself and his partner for membership at Virgin Active, near Swansea. Yes, their gyms have more facilities such as saunas and swimming pools, but come on, £50 each per month! No thanks!

Amazing the excuses people come up with. I've heard it all now!

I use to go to the one in waterloo but cancelled as way too packed. waiting to use weights and machines was annoying.

Now with Virgin Gym, its expensive but just so much less chaotic.

please don't feed the troll guys.....ahh its half term i believe...

Last time I looked anything under £30 was cheap for monthly gym membership - dunno why so many comments are negative.

**checks site - forgot was on HUKD**

Yes, apologies - but since they are merging something to look out for in the future.

Wish they would open one in Eastbourne! Only an expensive David Lloyd and Bannatynes here no way I'm paying £45+ a month for the gym!

Which Virgin Gym is it and how much is it monthly? I'm looking for something close to Waterloo / Southbank area... but rather use the workplace gym (small and crappy) than to pay £50+ a month with a 12 month contract.

Actually, I wouldn't even mind paying over £30-£35 monthly as long as it doesn't involve being tied into a contract.

Hummm - nearest 1 is 22 miles away. Would be better if Pure Gym followed suit with similar prices (£9.99/month) as the nearest is only 5 miles away

My locals from £10.99

Virgin just my membership up to £42 pm! good luck to this lot

Okay, how about "can do pretty much all of it for free at home"?

The Ilford one still has a joining fee? Correct me if I'm wrong please

just to point out to people after you join you will get the terms and conditions sent to you.

they do have a hidden fee of a £12 fine if you miss a payment which will be added to your normal monthly fee

some of thier gyms have car parks which allow 2 hours free parking, otherwise you will get a fine of £65 onwards

the gym which i visit has about 4/5 people in ques for some machines (not exaggerating) very overcrowded (as you can imagine because of the low price)

you get what you pay for, simples

You have cross-trainers, rowing machines, treadmills, exercise bikes, racks of dumbbells, weightlifting equipment and benches at home? Wow!

Few cans of baked beans and some stairs. Win. All the rest - go for a walk, ride a bike. It's not rocket science. Cross-trainers...just use the internet for a bit on that one - and weep at how much you're blowing a month.

You're right, they can get very busy at peak times (I use the busy Brighton gym) but they are open 24/7 and I can usually find an hour, off peak when they are almost empty...
