This morning Hello Games confirmed that the next free update 'NEXT' will include full, synchronous multiplayer!

Yes, okay, I guess they did kind of promise that as launch, but they're just over a dozen people in a shed. They're trying hard you guys.

Regardless, No Man's Sky is a sort of survival based space game with a near-infinite number of randomly generated planets, populated with weird procedurally generated creatures and plants. It got a lot of flack at release because it over-promised and under-delivered (and lets face it, as good as what we got at launch was it should probably have been an early access game), but nearly two years of continued development on the game have shaped it up into something rather more concrete and playable.

If you like the kind of game where you wander around looking for resources to build things that'll make it easier to wander around looking for resources, this thing is probably right up your alley. There's also space combat, base-building, a sort of weird abstract plot involving space gods, three races of NPCs to make friends with, and the weird satisfaction of getting to name pretty much every single thing you run across first (animals, vegetables, minerals, entire planets), so that anyone else who reaches it can see your space vandalism.

The update is scheduled to release in July on both PC and PS4, alongside the launch of the rather pricier Xbox One version.

I'll wait for the inevitable battle royale mode to be added

Good price! Heat added.
Considering the new update, this will be worth the shot!
Good price, it's nice to see a game studio still put effort into what is effectively a dead game to try and breathe some life back into it. I genuinely hope this update helps create an active player base as the game has so much potential.
I'm getting tempted...

Haven't been able to play this for nearly a year since Hello games updated it and gimped the visuals up on my r9 390x - They never fixed it, nor was a workaround implemented

Seems like the least they could do!

They could've given up on the game completely, left it in it's post launch state and moved onto the next project.

Yes they could, I'm half joking. I think their reputation after the launch was such that their next game would not have stood much chance, but I guess they could have disappeared and gone their separate ways. But yeah good on them for trying to get it right, but bad on them for releasing it in that state to start with.

It makes you wonder how much pressure were they under from Sony to release it in the state it was in. Seems like release probably should of been delayed by at lease a year.

Yeah, I imagine the publisher was mostly to blame, they probably would have rather waited themselves. Didn't help that so much hype had been generated as well.
Flop
Bought on steam, already have on PS4 pro. It’s a superb game, I enjoyed the original incarnation - the loneliness and sheer scale of space was brilliant, and with each patch it’s got so much better. The Next update is going to be close to the vision the developers had - and I’m as excited for it as I am for Shenmue 3 Good on Hello Games for working like dogs on it since release!
I got sucked into this game recently and in its current form it's incredible. £12 for the game plus the Next update is insane value. Great catch, OP. This is the lowest price going.
as soon as vr is added i am in... until then however... no thanks. (still not a bad price tho)

i blame sony (they were working on oculus rift support way back when DK2 1st launched)

as an aside is this the only game which is almost always cheaper on ps4 than on pc when in a sale? usually it is the opposite.

Thanks to all the hype and the big launch, I suspect there's a lot of second hand physical copies of the PS4 game hanging around that drive down the price.
