and pay monthly for an unfinished game ?

Not sure where you're getting the pay monthly thing from. You buy the lowest tier ship for like $35 and you get the full game.

In an interview with Chris Roberts he talked about buying things like fuel and other "items" so while I'm sure you can play the game without it and just having to pay for a ship, im sure it will be difficult without constant payment. But I might be wrong, we don't know, because it's not finished yet...

Although in a statement on their website, it mentions microtransactions but then says they won't sell things that you cannot acquire through normal gameplay. But I remain sceptical. Although highly interested.

All that is bought with in game currency so not pay monthly or pay to win

Stop quoting your sex life

I'll give this a go for 12 quid. Thanks. Was one I, like lots of others was keeping an eye on before release until it all went horribly wrong when it came out.

I got this for £17 on PS4 last September - surprised it's not under a tenner yet on pc.

In-game currency that can be bought with real money.
As soon as that link exists, the game becomes pay to win*.

*in the context of an open ended game, 'win' is a synonym for faster, less grindy, progression.

Your entire idea of how this game works is completely wrong. EVERYTHING can be bought be ingame currency including all the ships. At the minute the ships are on sale to those who wish to help fund the development of the game. Star Citizen is also just the multiplayer part of the game. Squadron 42 is the single player part of the game. People seem to forget this. The game will have a persistent universe multiplayer and also a single player campaign much like Wing Commander.

Pay to Progress is closer to what you mean. SC isn't Pay To Win in the sense it is used. And for that i am glad- i am happy to grind but if needed can help progress with paying.

The game is unfinished. I love how you know all the facts about an incomplete game that can change at any second. I watched the interviews. I think you're going to be paying a lot. And yeah it is pay to win... or at least pay to beat everyone else.. If you think otherwise fine, doesn't mean i'm wrong when the game isn't even finished yet and everything can change at any moment ... If you aren't paying anything when the game comes out and you play it constantly, then I'll say I was wrong .. am not really bothered if you think I'm wrong. Unlike you , I don't have a crystal ball to see the future of this game I only have interviews in game magazines and youtube to go off and in those, the lead developer suggests people will pay for stuff. regularly. And maybe you don't have to ? but im sure it will not be a fun experience when everyone is paying and you don't and you have a serious disadvantage...

Disadvantageous at what? How much will be PvP ? Do you mean buying a big ship? What about orgs full of smaller ships attacking and pirating the big ship ? What about modules which will change ships massively-if,as they say, ships are only 30% of what they will be then modules will play a massive role. And you can grind to get them like everything else. What gameplay do you want to follow?
If you know enough about this game you will be less worried about how much paying for things will effect your enjoyment- unless you want the biggest, baddest fighter day one and aim to grief everyone.

Why is that a facepalm? I have been reading through this discussion and the person has given many valid reasons to counter the fact it is pay to win and they have actually played the game. The other person read an article and now thinks they know better. It's a shame really as they were just trying to give them some info on a game they might like playing.

Unless you backed last year then SQ42 is now a separate game, however I think they will let you get both at a discounted price if you want both when released fully
