Put it down to buying cheap brand Amazon crap and tried an expensive one, it was better but still unreliable. Often struggled and sometimes failed to start, especially at very low car voltages or if the power bank isn't 100%. It's not too hard to keep a lithium jump starter topped up, but as you generally don't know when your car will fail to start, chances are a lithium power bank that's been lying around unused for a couple months won't have the power ready to go.
Bought this big heavy thing at the start of this year for £75. It's essentially a spare car battery in a plastic case. Says to give it a maintenance charge every three months. It starts the car instantly without struggling every single time. Despite being kept in a cold boot, it was still working perfectly and showing full charge having not been charged since at least August and done at least 15-20 jumps in that time. Finally got around to bringing it inside to recharge last week.
