voted hawwwt! Thanks edi...

I quite like this phone. I was talking to a mobile phone applications designer and he showed me a game on this which uses the motion sensor. Ya know Labyrinth?? It was like that, guide the marble around the screen by tilting the phone without letting it go down the hole.

It's not commercially available as a game but I thought it's a really cool story anyway.

Voted hot Edi.

Big brother 5 - you not watch it

a type of locking chip as far as I remember, allowing orange to lock the handset to their network in such a way as to require a hardware unlocking or paying them for the unlocking code

why do so many people without knowing anything about mobile say unlocking will cost 30 pound no where in any network does it cost 30 pounds. The maximum a network will charge is 20 pounds.

Who goes to Tesco to unlock a mobile phone?

Not me...but you must have spent £30 before they will give an unlock code.

Latest cid52 phones will cost 50 euros on Davinci to unlock.(but that's for SE)

Quick look around Google suggests that 5500 is not easily unlocked unless it's a Vodafone.

It's a refurb. What condition is it likely to come in?

I bought this fron Argos on Orange Pay and Go a while back now, think I unlocked with with codes, well certainly never paid anyone to do it and its unlocked alright.

Phone is ok bit gimmicky, very slow to react, not like older Nokias, and they seem to have complicated some simple tasks with the need for extra button pushing.

If you are out of range and receive a text once get back in range, in the message details it doesnt tell you what time it was sent.

Also some feature where you are meant to be able to talk your text messages but there doesnt seem to be languages to select

i've had two of these - which should set alarm bells off..
but it's a good phone
first one i walked into a table corner and it smashed the screen so it's not too durable. also, the screen isn't brilliant on it.

the marble game is a massive gimmick and you'll use it for 30 minutes tops.

the speed of the phone is more like a pda than a phone, but compares ok to most phones i try. if you download the sms patch from nokia.com it's very quick.

what else? well if you aren't put off by me breaking the first then the fact i got a second must show that at least one person likes it

I brought a few of these from argos at christmas, all were orange pay as you go and all were unlocked, good phones but they have a common problem with the key pad peeling away, if your a texter i suggest you stay a way.

nokia n80 on the same refurb pages for £99 and im sure the orange n80 can be easily unlocked

this is a great price but personally i dont like the phone. the buttons are annoying and its really ugly. but thats just me. voted hot and repped.

base band 5 (i think)

these cannot be unlocked for free as already mentioned above

ive also heard that the keypad is a bit rubbish

although you can put tomtom on this mobile which would be good for some people who need it.

Just had a look at the reviews on mobile phones uk and people are not very impressed with this, as mentioned above the keys fall off/apart, and this is sold as a sports phone, best leave it in the kit bag when you go jogging then!

I have this phone, its fab and i love it!

No, tesco give you the code for free providing youve spent 30 pounds with them

This phone is considered to be one of Nokia's better phones.

Believe it or not, Tesco have their own mobile phone network.

It is a nice phone but I just wanted to add that when I was workin in the Orange shop we often recieved them back with the keypad peeling problem. Not saying don't buy but just beware.

I still think the best phone by far that nokia have released recently is the 6300, prob a good bit more expensive but I never seen one problem with them.

It's incredible. How long have Nokia been specialising in the mobile phone game and even after all these years they still manage to release a model with a duff keyboard.

They give you a decent camera and Bluetooth, etc, etc, and then skimp on the most important part of the phone.

the problem with 6300 is it only has 7mb memory... which makes things awkward even with an aditional memory card

is that it!

even my old SE k700i has more memory and thats about 3yrs old

But the K700i doesnt have expandable memory or other things lol...

on the 5500, i ve heard that the keyboard peelling off was a problem with the glue and the plastic on the black version.

I had the sim free version of this phone not that long ago, it runs symbian OS on its tiny screen which is rather neat. It's got all the bits and bobs for excercise and theres keypad light that changed colours lol.

Nice price, good phone plus right size too. But watch out for the keypad as its a bit unresponsive and do note that it is running a smartphone OS so sometimes it can slow.

tesco use the o2 network just like virgin use tmobile

this phone has too many defects. i bought the near faultless 6230i refurb for £45 on orange.

Anyone know for sure what is the maximum memory these will take?
Nokia web indicates only the later 'Music Edition' 5500 can take up to 1GB Micro SD as a 'new' feature, but no indication for the standard model.
Some review websites claim all can take upto 2GB.
Anyone?

The phone arrived but does NOT come with a memory card, data cable or handfree/headphones. Expect to have to pay for these seperately (around £25/£30).

Very frustrating.

Mine looks decidely 'secondhand', rather than 'refurbished', marks/damage on the case and just plain dirty. Not impressed and will return.
