Always loved Nokia. Heat from me.
That's a one hell of a good looking phone in my testeronic viewpoint.
@Mrswitch are you doing this each time with the same networks, surely they will turn you down when you keep doing it?
Just annoying they put a 630 in this, glad the price is £200 not £250

This isn't a con job, the contract is for 1 month.

I know - I've done it myself twice (on the Nokia 6 2017 in fact once as well as the Moto X4), but if you cancel the contract in 14 days, which is what OP is saying, they are going to get wise I would have thought.

The 630 isn't bad, a big step up from the 430 in the 2017 model. The Nokia 7 Plus will have the 660 and looks to be potentially awesome if Nokia have got a grip of their bugginess...

If you pay your one month, then it's not an issue, Vodafone are banking on not everyone doing that; if you try to cancel without paying for one month then yeah, that's you breaking terms. I also doubt TCB will keep getting paid out £50 for 1 month contracts.

I'd prefer a 625, for a better performance/power balance. Yes, the 7 is what I'm eyeing up, the 660 is probably the best SoC going.

It seems do-able at the moment, but I can't imagine it will be for long, and I wouldn't have thought you could keep going back to same provider and repeating trick...I did with Voda 1st time and O2 2nd for that reason.
What, for the 50? Or for cancelling before the first month's payments? Otherwise it's not an issue and you could do it as often as you like.

Both seem like a loophole they'll close sooner or later...

Na, have only done it once with the p10 lite, will wait another few month then do it again with something else.

If you pay your first month then I can't see why you can't do it over and again.

You aren't breaking any rules, your credit score will be shot however.

I'm trying to steer people towards just paying one month then cancelling, as these companies aren't stupid, and they will wise up at some point.

No more posts on 12 month deals for me.

From all your posts, I thought this was at least your 3rd time! I'm thinking about this for the friend I'm helping, it's just the multiple bugginess of my wife's Nokia 5 that's putting me off, it's had a number of issues both before and after the Oreo update. Not getting SMS messages is inexcusable as is breaking the camera app with an update IMO. You feel a greater responsibility when someone asks you for a recommendation. I@m hoping these are teething problems in early HMD days. May suggest an A5 2017 at £229.99 instead...
Why would this affect your credit score? (Other than the initial credit check)

Just the once.

I know what you're saying about buying for someone else. It's quite a big responsibility.

The Nokia 8 I had, although it was for a limited time, was a great little phone, ran fluid, was just due Oreo, had the latest security update (february) and was a great looking thing.

Like you said in my previous post a couple days ago, why would you buy anything else around that price, when you can get the Nokia 8?

They are currently £299 and dropping.

Taking out a contract..

It's a shame that they don't work like they did (at least for EE) last year, where you don't have a credit check, sign a contract or set up a direct debit - you simply paid for a sim which came with a one month bundle.

If that was the case, I'd have possibly 123 phones by doing this with carphone haha

Btw, any thoughts on why this has gone so cold?

Yeah, my guess, it has "requires SIM cancellation" in the title.

It immediately made me think this was a 12month contract where I might get a summons to scc one day. Not a 1m.

No way they'd pay out the £50, as network wouldn't even have your details. And the deals aren't that good.

Yeah, my guess, it has "SIM cancellation required" in the title.

No just with the 1 month contract. I did it in December and it paid out in January, did it again about 4 weeks ago just waiting for it to pay again.

With the context here "proper contract" meant any contract you had to cancel, that wasn't required with the deal I did on the Nokia 6 back in December.

I wouldn't be surprised if it went up. CPW have exclusive right and my guess is they probably won't change this price for a while. Higher end devices are where early adopters pay for the privilege.

It's not an "initial credit check", it'll be a credit application check which will leave a mark on your credit report for up to 12 months, hence the effect on your "score". The more credit applications you make in a short period the more it looks like your desperate for credit and hence a higher lending risk.

Lenders pay for information that lets them judge the risk of an investment, so only activity that truly shows you have increased risk will "lower" your score. What I'm saying is, if the data shows that the number of phone credit contracts someone takes out has little to no affect on their chances of defaulting on debt (an analysis dependent on other factors for which they have data) then it won't affect your score. These things aren't arbitrary, and credit agencies make money by collating and analysing data accurately.
