[Thanks for liamaustin7v for his Nokia 8 deal and text below:]

A tenner cheaper now - great deal on a high spec handset. Simply order with the cheapest total cost 1 MONTH contract, cancel within the first 14 days and keep the handset. Perfect for those already with a good SIM only deal.

Vodafone contract is £15.50 monthly, £249.99 upfront. Cancel contract in the first 14 days to avoid the 1st payment (thank you for the tip, MrSwitch!/liamaustin7v).

Possible £5.00 Quidco cashback also

  • 5.3-inch Quad HD display
  • Dual 13MP camera
  • 128GB internal storage, 6GB RAM

£240 for phone in exchange for worse credit rating. If you have no intention of getting loan, mortgage or apply for new credit card then it's fine otherwise spend £80 more to protection your credit rating.

Or £15.50 more for a one month contract for peace of mind if that's worrying you. It's a one month contract, not a 12 month contract. See the pic above, 1 Months and the highlighted minimum cost of £254.50. Hope this helps.

I did same thing with moto g6 plus. Via cpw. Signed up for one month sim deal with o2. Told them I wanted to pay just one month and was giving my 30 days notice. They still cut the sim off next day. Told me coz it was in 14 day cooling off period. Hasn't effected my credit rating at all.

Yeah paying for the first month definitely better idea.

Why does it affect your credit rating? I don't understand

If one is successful credit checks ,then it is not effecting the rating , might as well gain points. But if one is failing in credit checks and in-spite of failing , trying to apply for credits again and doing credit checks will make things worse.
Onto the phone. I have had one since Xmas and it truly is one nice phone. Good camera and constantly updated to the latest Android version

I'm a little disappointed, it gets very hot and I've found battery life to be very variable.
Is this the best phone I will get for under £250? I particular want a good front facing camera for selfies so if anyone can recommend anything better would appreciate it! Also do Nokia get solid support for android updates for a few years

very good spec. Got this phone 10 days ago for £249.99 with Vodafone one month sim only contract. It was really a pain to cancel the Vodafone agreement. They keep telling me my contract is with CPW but Car Phone Warehouse were adamant that my agreement is with Vodafone. However,on the 3rd day and making at least 6 phone calls, Vodafone customer service finally cancelled my contract. Forgot to mention that I made an online complaint on Vodafone website as well. This deal is good for you if you are persistent and don't give up. If you simply cancel the Direct Debit and don't ring Vodafone then your credit history will be affected badly. I'd rather pay £10/15 extra to get sim free phone with no contract.
For some reason my credit checks failed for this. Checked my v credit score with money saving expert and it's the highest possible.

Yes, good resolution on the front camera and Nokia are getting Android updates almost as fast as Pixels. Easily the most specced phone for under £250.
I can only find 24 month contracts if going directly to carphone warehouse. If I use comparethemarket I find the 1 month contract. Am I doing something wrong?

Are you registered to vote at your current address? That will make a massive difference, as will an address which is formatted differently in the electoral roll than to the way you specify it (flats can be affected by this).

I know the Nokia 8 camera app allows "bothies", but does it allow PIP, too?
Refused to cancel my contract advice call cpw what to do
No 1 month option for me online

Yes I am
No idea what the issue is...

Guess it's money saved by not getting this phone.

No problem
£240 is a steal for this phone. It does everything competently and is updated every month. Nokia have stated that it will get Android 9 and they have a beta program if you want to get it even faster. The camera is actually pretty decent and you can sideload the pixel camera app if you want.
Can anyone recommend a glass screen protector? The ones I've looked at on Amazon so far all see to have mixed reviews.

Recommendations for a case (gel, flip, whatever) would be appreciated, too

Thanks, airliefrost I take it that you're happy with the case, else you would have said so - I'll put it on my short list 'cos I'm going to get more than one type of case?

Do you have a screen protector, too?

Okey-doke - thanks, anyway!
Would anyone advise is this better than a S7 edge?

I also noticed when it takes you to the cpw website, if you look at reviews from customers who recently bought the handset, near enough all of them are complaining the devices go faulty or have issues?

Im a tad worried that the drop in price reflects the returns on these handsets perhaps?
Do not buy the s7 edge I am returning mine and buying an Nokia 8

This happened to me too, I have a great credit score, no negatives, registered to vote etc, both live chat for carphone warehouse and Vodafone as much use as a chocolate teapot. Went with an honor 9 from Argos for £225 in the end as there's so many horror stories about carphone warehouse if your phone develops a fault, can't be bothered taking the risk tbh!
Arrived today, phoned Vodafone and said I'd like to cancel, phone call lasted all of 2-3 minutes, no problems at all.

Hi sam0 - did you activate the sim first, or call without it activated? Please would you add the Vodafone customer number that you called to for others above? Thanks in advance.

I put it in the phone, left it for a few mins to activate, called 191, and asked for cancellations.

They'll ask for your name, and will send a code via SMS to the phone to verify ownership, then they'll cancel the contract.
