Nokia 8 - John Lewis Customer Returns - £210 (Welwyn Garden City)

LocalFound 25th Apr
I picked up a Nokia 8 Customer return from John Lewis in Welwyn Garden City.

Classed as Grade A it came in the original box and included Instructions, Original Nokia charger and original un-used earphones.
The phone itself was in mint condition - no scratches at all and no sign of use apart from the fact that the screen protective cover had been removed.

The phone was priced at £279 being reduced from an indicated £399.95.I pointed out to the partner that the new price on the JL website was £299.95. She went off to see the manager and came back stating that they would apply the same discount ie. -30% to the £279 so they let me have it for £210.

There were about 4-5 other Nokia 8 phones in the "reduced cabinet".
I am assuming that JL are getting rid of these prior to the Nokia 7 coming out next month so it might be worth a call to your local JL if you're interested.

I haven't used it yet but judging from the reviews that I've read it's a bargain at £210.
It comes with a 2 year guarantee so we shall see.

Would like to know how you came to be able to get the discount as I don't understand from your description above!?

The way I interpret it, the in store price was 399 and was discounted by 30% to 279 i.e. based on the old RRP, the buyer pointed out that it now has a lower standard price on the website 299, so JL staff discounted the now normal price of 299 by 30%, giving the buyer the price of 210.
So was there more than one handset on offer?

Cheers! Water off a duck's back mate!

Good luck tomorrow. Make sure that you get them to get all the Nokias out of the cabinet as they are graded A, B or C.
I think I struck lucky with mine as I bought one last week that was a grade B (same price) but it refused to charge so I took it back and they promptly changed it for another of the ones in the cabinet.
Not sure how they ended up with so many. I'm sure that last week they had at least 5.
Maybe WGC is a collection centre for WGC, Watford & MK lol.

Firstly, perhaps you'd like to get the spelling right. I think that you mean "allowed".

Secondly, I'm not sure why you are upset by this. At no time have I said that this is a National deal. I deliberately ticked the Local Deal box as WGC may be the only JL branch in the country to have these.
Why not try phoning a couple of JLs if you're upset by this and want one. They may even try and help you find one if you speak nicely to them!
Good luck!

Why is it so insanely difficult for people to just scroll past something that doesn't interest them? In the time it took you to write that comment you could've scrolled past and saved yourself the hassle.

Why do you and some others expect HUKD to be tailored to only things that interest you? It's ridiculous.
JL don't centrally do returns, so if an item is returned, after its had any required refurb, its then returned to the store that sold it to then discount and sell on rather than go to a central depot when its distributed to all stores on an even basis.

What used/ refurb stock any given JL branch has depends on what was sold in store, and also if the item has been have been returned , so while WGC sold and had returns on these its possible that (as an example) JL Stratford also sold these but had no returns so would not have stock to sell, its also possible that JL Stratford never sold this phone and so would never have return stock.

JL refurbs are usually really good, my iPads came from there and in both cases they were almost like new condition wise, I think the only thing with mine that was different from new was the USB/Lighting cable was no longer in the really tight coil they come with if you buy them new.

Firstly, this dailymail.co.uk/sci…tml

Secondly, This is not a deal is it ? as you asked the sales assistant for a discount so maybe not available to all as the manager may not do it again it was a one off.

Expressing your opinion is fine. But as you say it's a free forum so people should be allowed to post whatever they think will benefit others (which this has).

Why is it not a deal? It doesn't have to benefit everyone on the site to be considered a deal. If it helps even one person, then it was worth posting. I see no reason why JL would not honour this deal for someone else.

You see no reason ok, but its not your call is it nor is it the posters call its the shops call and is not available to everybody as it was a good will gesture.

It was not a goodwill gesture.
More that of pure economics.
How would JL ever sell a phone by using an incorrect price to mark it down?

OK so I'm a grammar Nazi if that is what you feel.
Good luck with your next job application if you're going to rely on your current standard of grammar!

Im probably double your age and have had my own business for 25 yrs so my personal life is all sorted and i would not want to embarrass you with my finances so keep your condescending views to yourself. Glad i taught my kids have not to have your snobbish views.
To the OP, good deal, and if it only helps one other person out then it was worth posting.
Went there today, they had one left. They wouldn't budge on the £270 price even though I pointed out the new price was now £299. Guess the OP was lucky!

Strange. That's the second time in a couple of years I have got them to reduce the price of a "used" item.
Previously, I got them to knock £75 off a desktop PC which I could prove to them was using an earlier Intel Core i5 processor.
I'd go back and ask to speak to a dept manager. CPW in Welwyn are also charging £299 for the Nokia 8.
I returned the next day only to find the last one in the cabinet had just been sold! I ended up getting a brand new one from Argos who are selling it for £299. Had a 10% off voucher so quite pleased to get it for £270.
Am considering buying this phone.. May I ask people who own it, how do you find the battery life?
Any particular pros and cons?
Would you recommend it?

Many thanks!
