How many nostrils do people from Yorkshire normally have then?

Hahaha! Cheeky. Should have said 2 sets
Wanted one of these.
Not so sure now.
Think I will wait for the Nokia 7 Plus.

Was looking at one of these or the Honor 9 for my Dad.
Android 8.1 compared to 8.0 made a huge difference for me on the N8. It was very buggy and laggy but 8.1 seems to have sorted so much of that out now. Just needs a better camera app now....

You're not the first person to say that to me. I bought the motorola moto X4 posted by @jazzuk777hotukdeals.com/dea…620
and he bought it too, but we were both looking at the Asus Zenfone 4 hotukdeals.com/dea…997 posted by @Dr37
I have just compared the Nokia 8 to the Asus Zenfone 4 and was quite surprised gsmarena.com/com…522
Also noticed the processor in the X4 is same as in Sony XA2 (snapdragon 630)
Good luck with your hunting! (very happy with X4 btw)

Seem similar but the 9 is fifty quid cheaper.

I've got two (well, me one, the wife the other) from a previous deal. Actually a great phone, but the supplied camera app is flaky. Swap the camera app, and it's great value for money.

I'd never really researched the Nokia 8 before, surprised to hear there are/were issues with the camera app, especially with Zeiss being involved.
I've had one of these for about 4 months now and no complaints at all. Really quick and responsive and the camera has been fine for me. Not had any problems on speaker phone either.

same price at CPW £349.99

and quidco offer a £20 bonus until end of today (on any cpw order) and the base £10 cashback on sim free phones, so -£30 (if it all tracks, as it should)

It's just very basic and laggy.

The new Nokia 8 Sirocco and Nokia 7 Plus come with a revamped camera interface which is based on the Nokia Lumia camera app.

They might filter this down to older models later, but I'm guessing it will be available via XDA once the phones are released.

Or just sideload the Pixel APK and get a really good camera experience. I've taken some cracking photos on the Nokia 8. The actual lens quality is decent and once you use the Pixel APK the only downside is fairly slow focus speed.

My favourite device of 2017 was the Nokia 8 - top-end specs, nice build quality, decent battery life and a really bright, high res screen to boot. It's even got Bluetooth 5.0.

On top of that it's the only non-Pixel device to run Android 8.1 to my knowledge - and it's an extremely 'stock' Android experience - which is probably why the Pixel camera app works so well on it. I would expect this to get the full release of Android 9 sooner than most devices, and for those who want to use the built-in camera app, Nokia are releasing the software for older models too - so it's not like with Samsung and the like where you have to buy a newer handset to get new camera features.

Huawei and Honor make some great devices for the money but don't expect fast updates, and there's no option to sideload the Pixel camera app on them because they use Huawei's own CPU.

What camera app have you used?

I'm so disappointed by the camera performance, had to go out and buy a standalone camera as it's so bad for anything slightly dark or moving

Type 'celsoazevedo Google camera' into Google and there's a site to download various APKs with Pixel camera mods. I used the cstark variants (not the 'wide' ones as they're for LG devices). I had some great results in low light. It's really not a bad camera at all, it's just that the stock software from Nokia is rubbish. It takes better photos than my Note 8 did, aside from the much slower focus.

Seriously considering this. If anybody knows anything about smart phones could you please answer the following?

- What is the audio quality like, says 24 bit 192khz, will this get rid of the need for an external dac?

- Camera quality, does it compare well with others?

- Screen being IPS, is it noticably worse than OLED screens? I found with the 4K Sony phone that i could see all the pixels, but couldn't on a 1080p OLED.

- Most importantly: Is there anything in this price range or class that makes this pointless going for? So many types out there now, don't want to miss out by not spending another £30 for example.

Much appreciated!
Can't tell, if it's worth getting this or the 7 plus when it's released... especially now they are the same price...

It is coming to the Nokia 8. They confirmed it'd be available on all phone with Zeiss glass.
Voted hot. Good phone for a good price . UK model, not some Chinese model with Chinese bloatware rubbish inside .

The Nokia 8 has the 835 processor so should be faster,. The Nokia 7 Plus has a 18:9 screen (which I'm not personally bothered about) and a secondary physical zoom lens (which I am really keen on, far more than the wide angle option in a number of other secondary lenses, or the monochrome option in the N8 )

You'll see more pixels on a 1080P OLED than a 1080P LCD as LCD uses an RGB subpixel stripe where OLED uses a PenTile matrix - meaning the LCD has more subpixels and effectively higher resolution

I understand that, but I am using a Oneplus 3 and can't see any pixels, where as on the 4k Sony I bought, could see every single pixel. So this was why I was asking. Maybe op3 uses a different type.
As previously mentioned the Nokia 7 plus is out next month worth holding out imo for more reviews...

I have the Nokia 8 and it has the best LCD screen I've used - it can go really bright, over 700 nits so the contrast and sunlight legibility are right up there with oled.
Wireless charging support ? My Z3c is getting long in the tooth and currently not impressed with the recent Sonys so might be time to jump ship.

Oneplus use a diamond pentile pixel layout:

That might be the difference you are noticing. I had a look at it thought a VR headset this week, quite an unusal experience seeing that magnified.

Most Pentile arrangements are diamond now. It's still not as good as an RGB stripe though as there are shared subpixels and the only reason Pentile arrangements exist at all is to help counteract the deterioration of blue subpixels.

I didn't say it was better, I just said it was different VR headsets have made very apparent the problems with pentile screens. Still, I don't think it looks bad in normal usage. There's always going to be a subjective element to who likes what display better, since we don't see the same.
