Available in steel colour only

Experience more on your mobile with this steel Nokia 8.1 smartphone. Your favourite films and games will look amazing on the 6.18 inch PureDisplay screen, as HDR10 technology offers a beautifully bright and vibrant picture. You’ll get a lot of use out of the dual rear camera too, as the Zeiss optics technology captures sharp, clear images, as well as 4K video. Plus, the 20MP front-facing camera is amazing for taking selfies that you’ll be proud to post on social media, and it also has a fingerprint sensor to keep all your files and photos super-safe. What’s more, the adaptive battery only powers apps when needed, so it’ll last a lot longer from a single charge.

Thanks ao.
I have one, I turn on WiFi or data 3 times a day for messages and updates etc.
Make 20-30 mins of calls a day.
I charge it every 10 days or so
It's got great reviews. Heat from me.
If John Lewis price match I'll buy..
Great price OP, kind of bigger 7.1, successor to great 7 Plus, same elegant design, quality software, good battery life/camera, 3.5mm headphone jack; at this price a very attractive proposition, very overpriced at launch just a few months ago

Some reviewers struggled to give it 4 stars due to expensive launch price, eg TechRadar, Trusted Reviews, Pocket-lint etc

However this is the kind of price that enables it to compete with best of midrange

Screen on time?

Not much, I just use it as a phone and alarm clock. May be 20 mins a day.
can you get os updates and so on direct from google with these phones or is it a case of waiting for nokia to send updates out?

cheers. might go for this then but not sure. Still annoyed at missing out on the nokia 8 sirocco phone on sunday. my limited understanding suggests the 8 sirrocco is supposed to be a bit 'better' but i haven't done much research at all.

It was a different category, Sirocco had those expensive features that flagships usually carry, oled screen (albeit lower-quality LG), wireless charging, IP certification etc, but its SoC could be classed now as midrange because of age. In addition, it was a very compact phone, whereas this is a phablet, Nokia's compact midranger is now 7.1

This is more power-efficient, will be supported for longer by Nokia, more modern design-wise ( Sirocco's 16:9 ratio so 2017), has 3.5mm headphone jack and microSD slot.

Camera-wise lacks Sirocco's zoom capabilities but otherwise has another high-quality main sensor and a much better selfie snapper, with support for GCam already developed.

At this price point, 8.1 can challenge Pocophone/Mi 8 for best value in £200-250 territory, which couldn't do before when overpriced.
Not too tech savvy when it comes to Mobiles nowadays, but just purchased the Redmi Note 7 for £175 on Amazon on Monday. Is this a better deal or is there not much between them?

Similar specs, only design and software quality+support edge it for Nokia, Note 7 great value

Thought i should say the Notch on this IS HIDDEN BY DEFAULT and can only be changed if you are willing to follow a guide like this which reuqires enabling developer options

techmesto.com/hid…es/

"For unknown reasons, only some regions have the ability to enable or disable the “full bezel” mode. This builds up a virtual dark bezel (status bar) and the phone appears to be without any cutout.

For example, the variants sold in Europe have the full bezel (or hide notch) already enabled. That stops all apps from extending to the uppermost part of the display. Similarly, some regions (like India) have notch visible with no way to hide it. Luckily, the setting is in the smartphone, just not made available to the end users. Here’s how you can access the hidden setting."

Very strange choice by HMD here

Has anyone upgraded to this from the Nokia 8?
Wouldn't ever recommend a Nokia phone. I had the 7plus. Twice repaired, the build quality of their phones are awful.
Such a good phone! Dad has this phone and is can do 99% of things the £1000 phones do! Gets a new Android update every month too. Highly recommended at this price

Oh and the notch is such a non-issue!

1. What's the notch?
2. Hows the camera?
3. What's the real-world battery life like?

Thanks!

1) Notch - the top bar bit at the top of the screen, not noticeable as the phone uses the two small sides for battery and network icons either side of it. (Actually rather useful and saves screen space below)
2) Great - never going to be Pixel quality but fine for the average Joe and can take some good shots.
3) 1- 2 Days with medium use I'd say. Never been annoyed by poor battery life.

I kind of get the feeling you're not getting the most of the phone....

Not a bad phone all things considered

Believe me or not- that one will be my main phone for now, had bad experience with Mi8 Pro- battery life non-existent, had to flog it...
this or samsung a50?
Back in stock
Is it an upgrade on an iPhone 6s? Need to upgrade but don’t want to spend silly money, so this looks interesting.
269 now. so expired?
mabs.kasson05/07/2019 11:25

this or samsung a50?

A50: more expensive, bulkier, worse processor, worse camera (+ no GCam option), less premium build (plastic), on-screen fingerprint scanner (improved via update, but still a risk)

(I'm a Samsung fan normally, definitely S/Note series)
Ours was delivered yesterday. Any suggestions on a half decent case?!
