Hi first post, so go easy if I make a mistook or two ;-)

I was eying this product for a while, but it was £399.99 a few months ago and recently dropped to £349.99. I thought there's a bit more wiggle room in the price and finally today it went to £227.49.

Three Pack : £147.87 (after using 35% voucher on product page)
Two Pack : £105.62 (after using 35% voucher on product page)

Information:

  • High Performance Wi-Fi For Your Whole Home - This is NOT your average wifi mesh network or internet extender. The Nokia Beacon 3 is a next generation wifi mesh network system delivering blazing fast internet speed and real-time optimization.
  • Intelligent, Real-Time Mesh Network - The intelligent, self-organizing, self-healing mesh system provides real-time access by re-routing your device data past any network problems in as little as 500ms to offer maximum internet speed and performance.
  • Say goodbye to DEAD ZONES! Secure, fast coverage can be expanded
at any time by installing additional Wi-Fi beacons to ensure flawless,
room-to-room roaming and point to point wireless for mobile users.
  • Easy Mobile App - Manage multiple mobile devices, computers and smart IoT accessories like speakers, TVs. Control and share your wifi access at the touch of your fingertips. App available on the Apple Storeor Google Play markets.
  • Easy Installation - Enjoy plug and play setup in minutes, whether adding your first beacon or expanding your mesh wifi system with additional units. NOTE: The layout and construction of your home may affect the estimated coverage shown below.

I currently use a bunch of GL.iNet (OpenWRT out of the box) routers to extend my range and plug additional devices on them, but I run into subnet issues which is a pain, also the bandwidth on the remote side drop significantly. So I'm getting the Nokia 3 Beacon to plug and play at full speed, hopefully!

key concerns - does it do band steering, does it allow changing LAN IP and static client IP addresses? not clear from specs/reviews. Does anyone know?

Hi, I just got it and did some initial tests. Band Steering - yes there's an option for this. LAN IP is set to 192.168.18.x and though there are options to change it on the router admin page (not the app), it is greyed out currently. The docs state it can be done, have a look at all the options/walk through nokia-wifi.zendesk.com/hc/…ard

I have performed a single test using an ancient Intel 6205 WiFi adapter to a local NAS on the 5GHz band with a 2GB file.

Previous router :

Upload - 7.35 MB/s
Download - 12.5 MB/s

Nokia Beacon 3:

Upload - 21.6 MB/s
Download - 15.2 MB/s

That's a 20% increase in download and bizarrely I got a three increase in upload suggestion the Rx part of the router is able to pick up weak signals from the laptop better.

I'll do more comprehensive tests with a WiFi adapter on the AC standard to really see where it stretches its legs.

no WiFi 6

I was also considering a WiFi 6 based system, but due to lack of WiFi 6 enabled devices and the fact 1st generation of new WiFi standards are prohibitively expensive, can be unstable (unexplained connection dropouts are not fun), I decided to wait until I actually have devices that can utilise it. Some of the ASUS ones use the WiFi 6 as a backhaul, but this Nokia Beacon 3's prowress comes from the 3x3 and 4x4 antenna arrays.
Annoyingly its back to 349 now. I was ready to take a chance at 227. Will wait for price drop again on this or Orbi RBK53. Hopefully one or the other will have significant drop on Friday or Monday

Brilliant deal have had the 2 beacon setup for 6 months best thing I have bought will now expand to 3 beacons. Will add the 4th next year when they add the functionality to expand past 3 beacons.

That's expired/out of stock now, but you're better off getting two of these two packs, it'll cost less than the three pack and you'll have a spare unit ;-)

No idea. If I'm not logged into the Amazon account, it doesn't show. Are you an Amazon Prime member? Maybe they have limited vouchers? This is what I get when I go to the checkout.
Looking at it again, you can only buy 1 pack with the discount. If your basket has 2 of them in only 1 gets the discount
I don't know why but I wasn't able to see the voucher - I bought 3 pack for £227 which I think is still reasonably good deal. Once I sell two Ubiquiti UAP-AC-LR I have currently (with wireless uplink between them) net cost of change should be below £100 and hopefully I'll see an improvement in coverage and will be able to plug in some ethernet devices to the nodes (which I can't do with Ubiquiti)
It worked out in the end, FYI that's what I paid for it too before the 35% voucher came along. I'm tempted to get a 2 pack as well for future expansion but maybe that's overkill ;-)
Can people still see this 35% off coupon? Or has it expired.

I can't see it on the UK site, but can see it on the US site, super annoying

I still have it, I saved the voucher soon as I saw it. Expires on 30 November.
Drat.

My prime membership has just expired, perhaps it's a prime only thing
It might be :/ perhaps someone else with prime membership can chime in to confirm?

Just the 2 pack left... so are you an Amazon Prime member and you cannot see any voucher for the 2 pack, right?
No in-page voucher showing on the Beacon 3 for me? (Prime member). Seems to be there on the Beacon 1 though, so guess it's expired...

Also, does anyone know if these are better than the TP-Link Deco P9's that I've just bought?

Thanks for the confirmation. I suppose there were limited vouchers or something.

The TP-Link Deco P9 you mention looks interesting, having a PowerLine backhaul in addition to a WiFi one is a pretty good idea, this will solve those tricky thick wall problems.

Against the Nokia Beacon 3, I'd say the pros are:

-- WiFi/PowerLine backhaul
-- Alexa/IFFT support
-- More comprehensive networking options and features!

Cons:

-- Fewer Ethernet ports (2 vs 4)
-- Simpler antenna design (2x2 for both the bands, vs 3x3 and 4x4)

The unique thing about the Nokia solution is, they've gone for antenna design over adding an extra WiFi band (as ASUS do with their AX92 Mesh kit) - if solutions start to use additional bands we'll eventually get to a point there's a lot of interference from other networks (albeit it is mitigated a somewhat by 5GHz not being about to travel as far, and its weaker wall penetration).

I suppose I'd be interested in seeing how these Deco P9s perform especially as the PowerLine part might give it an edge as distance grows!

Correct. That's a shame!
Offer is still there for prime members by the looks of it colleague ordered one this afternoon
How random that some see it and others don't, regardless of prime membership.

I can see the voucher for the Beacon 1 pack of 3, tempted just to get that, my shonky WiFi is driving me nuts
Very impressed with the Beacon 3. Only up and running twin pk. for 24 hrs. But full download speed throughout 3 bedroom property, and very stable

The one unit of Beacon 3 three pack is back in stock. The three and two pack for 227 and 162 respectively if without this phantom voucher are good enough value over their normal RRP.

What router are you using currently?
I received mine today (Beacon 3) and so far I'm impressed with wireless performance and build quality.
I set mine up in Bridge mode currently so it acts as wireless AP network effectively connected to Vodafone router with wifi disabled.
It seems WAN port on Nokia units only accepts RJ45 and not RJ11. Looking at the settings online it should accept PPPoE and VDSL from BT Openreach socket. Tempted to buy RJ11 to RJ45 adapter and see if I can bypass vodafone router altogether. Not sure what impact this would have on performance though....

Does anyone know if these are compatible with Beacon 1 ? Might add smaller ones here and there throughout the house where I'd need ethernet connection in future.

It's a regular Ethernet port configured to treat whatever is connected to it as a WAN. It's basically a router, definitely not a modem of any kind, certainly not a xDSL one.

The app seems to let you pick Beacon 1 or Beacon 3 to add, but I wouldn't totally rely on that as a definite yes!

Besides, I think so far the network is limited to up to three nodes which you already have?
In the interim you could use some mini travel routers (GL.iNet GL-AR750 or TP-Link TL-WR902AC) to act as signal boosters in the fringe areas (of course you won't get the high capacity)
Hi, is this system better than the bt wifi AC2600 discs?

Adding additional beacons is coming / supported in next year software update but I have 4 running now with no issues so far.

Hi, is this system better than the bt wifi AC2600 discs?

The BT Whole Home WiFi kit looks reasonable on paper. It will provide coverage around your home but is no speed demon. It is inferior to the Linksys Velop, whilst the Nokia Beacon 3 goes toe to toe with the likes of heavy weights such as the Asus AX92U. Against the AX92U, the Beacon 3's speed drop over distance is very shallow whereas the the AX92U drops very sharply.

If you just need WiFi across the house, the BT Whole Home WiFi will do the trick, but if you need highest bandwidth available in the farthest corners of your 'realm' (for local file copying, 4K streaming etc.), the Nokia Beacon 3 is ahead of the current competition in most cases!
Do you think these will ever be in stock again? I'm gutted I missed out on this offer but was able to track down a Duo pack on ebay and can attest that these are an absolute beast. Where I used to have fair or patchy 5GHz connection upstairs in my room I now have excellent connection and the full link speed. Pretty impressive to be honest! Hope to track down more of these as they really are that good.

Yeah I hope so. It seems only one retailer was selling them and they must have sold out in the UK,however they still have them on Amazon.de - 2-pack 300 euros and 3-pack 400 euros. A bit steep out those prices, so next possible deep discount is likely to be Prime Day.

They are an excellent piece of kit, but unfortunately people here voted this down in favour of lesser performing but better known solutions. Typical!

One just have to look at this bandwidth over distance graph to witness the Nokia Beacon 3's prowess. It takes on the might ASUS RT-AX92u (the one with a dedicated back-haul channel) and trounces it as distance increases with a very shallow drop in performance, everywhere else just doesn't hold onto signals as well.
