Sure, you'll get all the extras on 3 but the UK coverage is really lacking.

great where I live , and I drive around the UK quite a bit , and take it to europe , never had a problem yet to be fair. Also I think you'll find they are clearing these as they are "supposed" to be dishing out blackberry bolds from April, so these would just sit in the stockroom. Good deal though nice phone.

They share masts with T-mobile.

they've been telling this story for more than a year! I get full coverage on my T-Mobile but Three broadband just doesn't pick up any signal where I live!

E71 is an amazing phone! One of the best phones I ever used.

prefer this over blackberry equivalents, but there's the e72/3 also. excellent deal

Wifi?

Agreed, really good phone, and looks amazing too. One of the best QWERTYs out there.
Good price too, as the phone goes for about £200 on eBay. Geetting the same minutes + unlimited internet bolt-on through o2 Simplicity will cost around £17.50/month already, and that is without a free phone! Similar 18-month contracts out there are charging £30-£35 for this phone.

Don't forget £47.50 quidco for the £20 texter plan!

Wifi?

It has wifi too.

18 months is too long imo. I know this is becoming the norm and stuff but if you look at it from a point of view that the e71 is getting dated very quickly, and that youll be spending 360 over the term, its not really worth it.

not voting.

i had two sony ericssons with 3 but then bought a nokia and still with 3, coverage is great, no more cutting out! depends on the phone ariel a lot of the time!!! mobiles look great now but some need that rhubarb ariel LOL my n95 is gr8 saying that though! perhaps because it's a little bulkier than most now?

agreed, save for something nice!

I have the e71 on three white steel version its amazing best ever phone used and better quality than those plastic based casing. Plus this is a good price im paying more the £25 PM tied into contract :x

Voted hot. Good find.

I called about this and spoke to a salesperson - who kept trying to sell it to me at a higher price.

I also checked quidco - and it seems to be mentioned - but only as £20 texter - and not £20 texter and net.

If only it wasnt 3
Dont forget if your thinking of returning it for whatever reason you cant even switch the phone on or take the sim card out the holder without waiving your right to return the phone, the company is a joke in my experience and ill never trust them again.

How good is the email on this thing ?
I'll probably go for a blackberry, but am interested in the alternatives..

if you think 18 month contracts are bad... 24 is now becoming the norm!
with 18, you can usually upgrade at about 15 (deps on network) as they will want to retain your cashflow.

Completely refute this - been with 3 for 3 years and the one thing you can not slate them for is coverage. Customer services - now that's a problem but in no way is coverage an issue.

Whats the quality of skype calls like, quite temptedhttp://is.gd/kRNt

Tempted with this offer but don't generally like 18 month contratcs plus i'm not sure I'd make use of a phone like this, so why am I tempted apart from I'm in the process of changing my plan!

Email is okay, but doesn't come to close to Blackberry. The main problem I have with the E71's 'Mail for Exchange' client is that it can't handle email folders. i.e. you can only access your Inbox and nothing else. This really sucks for me, but if you're not into using folders for your email, the E71 would work fine.

depends where u are located really...central london seems fine

3 coverage is fine I have been using them for years and have never had a problem in the UK or worldwide. They basically piggy back on other providers.

No prob with 3 where I am.

I know nothing of the Series 60 operating System

Could this handset be tethered by bluetooth or USB to a netbook, to provide mobile data ?

Is so then this appears to be a surefire bargain

I ordered last night and quidco tracked £47.5.:-D

This seems a really good deal. Unlimited 3 to 3 minutes is awesome all my mates and mrs are on 3 so its all I would need really. UNfortunately I still have 6 months to run on my current n95 contract.

On the using this as a modem for a laptop the short answer would be no.....

Really good phone, had it for a month or so.

I use a free bit of software on my e71 called JoikuSpot Light, works a treat and i full internet access anywhere. Just be carefull, im with O2 and in the contract it mentions that sharing the internet with other devices is against the terms and conditions. I'd guess Three are the same, although i have never had a problem.

Can't comment on the network, but I will say that it is a fantastic phone. I bought mine SIM-free last August (I have a Vodafone work SIM) and I love it. Wifi, long battery life, Google Earth, Lotus Notes mail (corporate), podcast client, lots of installable apps, suburb QWERTY keyboard, brilliant build quality. And I timed mine right - 30% cashback from the Nokia shop

It says e-mail, I have a Google Mail account, will it work with this?

Stay well away from 3.

You guys talk about it being able to access an exchange server for email. Does it come with its own email address, or ability to sync to gmail etc. for email ? Particularly "push" email ?

And any idea if it can read/write Japanese characters?

3g coverage too?

dont use Mail for Exchange. Use the 3 provided Mail on 3 client which supports exchange, gmail, hotmail and any imap mail. It pushes it to your phone and supports folders.

I wouldn't wait for a blackberry.. they wil lbe pricey.

In my experience that is a load of rubbish. I got a "new" mobile through from three that had already been opened, and had marks on. I took the phone out and tested it, and it worked fine. I then returned it, and got a replacement handset?

Apart from sending a used phone (apparently a mistake), I haven't had any trouble with 3 yet.

Yes it will. Easy to set up. I also have another googlemail account working with the new Nokia Messaging application, though they haven't finished it yet

Yep - I think the mast sharing deal is different with the broadband. I have a 3 mobile and 3 broadband.

When I have a good 3G signal - I have it on both, but I have found that the broadband will not work in a few areas (SE Scottish Borders) where the mobile is working fine. It seems to be in GPRS only areas.

In addition to juniper's suggestions, you should also be able to connect to it directly with the built in messaging app (I can on my 6120c), by enabling IMAP on your gmail account.

You can also get a (free, downloadable) google mail app which is pretty good if you use the gmail filters quite heavily.

For the person who wanted to know if it could be used as a modem, this is what 3's T&C's say:
unlimited internet and Facebook access is Internet Max add-on (1GB) - phone browsing only, your data usage does not include using your phone as a modem

Thats not saying you can't do it.

This is an amazing phone, and Three's coverage has *really* improved.

It works with Gmail/Hotmail and others on a push basis using email.nokia.com

Does anyone know if Tom Tom 7 can be installed on this?
