Read the description pls anyhow i changed the title now

Damn it, I voted cold by accident, sorry!

Don't be put off by it's low price, these little phones pack a bit of a punch!
Good spot

Great deal & heat from me but from experience the people I know on PAYG are currently using feature phones so this would be their first smartphone.

Be aware that the increased data usage on this type of phone may well sap their topup pretty quickly compared to their old feature phone....

Just did an upgrade for a friend at CPW to a Nokia 105 on Orange for 99p. This should be similar in use to what you have now but sorry no camera...

From experience Nokia feature phones generally have the longest battery life of all phones (I still take an old Nokia 6300i abroad which lasts 2 weeks on a charge).

The Nokia 105 is available at CPW as an O2 upgrade at £3.95. There is also a Nokia 108 with similar spec & a (pretty poor) 0.3MP camera at £9.95.

it is easy to turn mobile data off on the Lumia 520 phones, so you just use internet on the home wifi, but outside the house it will still be great for calls/texts/camera

this phone will suit your needs, i would have thought, just turn off mobile data. If you are not using it for internet/apps, then the battery life is a lot longer

Already upgraded mine to 8.1 a few weeks back (as part of the developer preview) - It works really well.

How does this work ?

it asks for my sim serial number, so does it change the tariff I am currently on ?

I'm currently on the £5 per month 30 day rolling contract with Virgin so i'm not keen on changing that

Can you get one as an upgrade if you buy a new sim or without a sim

Good phone, I've had mine a good few months now and no problems whatsoever.
Good price ..

Be aware that this phone has a 480x800 display, and only 512Mb (half a Gb) RAM. That is a low powered phone in today's technology.

However for once Windows is the exact opposite of other phone OS, unlike the PC counterpart it isn't a bloated resource hogging mess. Android and iOS do a poor job of managing resources, hence the constant drive for more power.
So rather than tar this phone with your generic, no phone without 1gb+ or quad core is any good, nonsense.

Oh and it's less than £50. Please shine a light on a better spec'd phone, with the resources you desire for this much cash?

It's £50...has a two year warranty, free unlimited MixRadio, a usable camera, offline navigation...and will be getting the very latest Windows Phone OS.
512MB really doesn't matter that much. It just means a few games won't run on the device.
Hot deal

Why are you getting so angry? All I did was point out the low spec of this phone; not whether it was good value or not! Some people.....!

The offline data free GPS navigation is great compared to many other similar priced android phones i have used.

Best thing for me is the GPS feature and form factor. Worse thing is battery life.

I have replaced it with a moto G, but have kept it as a spare phone and for gps usage on long trips or bike rides to monitor my level. For £50 i would say this phone is worth it especially if you are a light user

I helped my mum upgrade her old phone to one of these at phones4u. The saleswoman used her old phone with the o2 sim inside to make a phone call, it will only work with payg

Sorry to be thick ,but what is a Pay as you go upgrade; What is 1 supposed to upgrade from, another Nokia or which ?

You use your present PAYG sim card. As long as it has been topped up in the last 6 months your phone is eligible for an upgrade at a reduced cost.

Look in Tescos and Sainsburys for a cheap basic Nokia. Tescos do one for £9.00. Its not a smartphone but it has a radio. I don't think you need to sign up to them but its worth having a look into them (",)

We have around 20 Lumias 520 at work and everybody, I mean, everybody is complaining about that mobile! It is not so flexible as android mobile but that is not the main case. The real problem is, the touch screen is unresponsive, every 5th call you want to answer it just freezes itself!! It is utter rubbish. Maybe other Lumias are better but this model ain`t.

A lot of phone for £50 good deal have some heat.

Voted hot, as this is a good deal.

I will highlight though, like other phones there have been issues with these. The main ones we see coming through are:

Freezing
The volume buttons on the side falling off
The screen can sometimes crack while taking the back off to remove the battery (usually after it freezes)

Its only a small portion of phones compared to the amount sold, most people have no issues, however still a significant number.

Freezing is happening on a daily basis.
Never heard of volume buttons falling off.
But one guy cracked the screen when trying to remove the battery cover - that is a fact lol

I use it on a daily basis as a work phone and I cannot, truly recommend it. It is really basic phone, still you will get facebook, twitter and othe common apps, but nothing fancy.

There is one thing I really enjoy about Lumia 520, and that is the keyboard. Although the screen is small I am typing on it faster than on my Note 1. It is said navi is good too, but small screen does not make it pleasant experience .

it's not really freezing, the phone has a problem with the proximity sensor other phones have the same problem (iphones,Andriod phones) what happens is the proximity sensor kicks in and stops you answering the call because it still thinks the phone is in your pocket all you need to do is press the lock button twice (it will stop ringing out loud) then you can press answer.

Great phone for this price. The windows app store isn't as well populated as its rivals but you can still get most of the popular ones. Can't moan though for 50 quid.

My comment wasn't angry. However your post was designed to make this phone look useless and old hat.
Specs alone do not make or break a phone. My Moto G with 512mb ram works great, as I'm sure everyone else will agree. If you don't want called out on deliberately contentious comments, don't make them.
