I went in to purchase a Nokia Lumia 710 for £99.99 plus a £10 sim. However as it transpired if you have a pay as you go sim that you haven't purchased a phone on within the last 6 months, you can buy a handset for that sim for only £89.99.

Note that these upgrades can only be undertaken in store, not online. The handsets are completely unlocked. I purchased on O2 and now have my contract vodafone sim inside.

I have this phone and love it, great price

You'll have to fight the workers to get it for this price though, as they lie and give the other PAYG price of £99.99+£10 top up, which costs £20 more.

I think you'll be ok - it very clearly states this price on the stickers in the shop.

you don't have to fight with workers or anyone for that matter, it makes no difference to them !

Wow, bargain.

If only I could find a Lumia 900 for this sort of money....They still go for about £400 even on eBay,

Worth noting that Windows Phone market share grew 166% in the last year, and that compared to Q2 last year, Q2 this year saw 292% growth

WP phone sales have now climbed to circa 20% of those of the iPhone - not bad for a new OS.

Here's how it works, if you have had a PAYG sim card (Voda, orange,o2,tmob,virgin) for at least 6 months and use it regulalry (i.e top it up) you can then upgrade for that price, you can only upgrade once in 6 months with the same sim card, you will need to have the sim card physically in store. (I work for cpw)

Not just yet, I'm waiting to see the Note 2.

what would be better, this with windows mobile 7.5 or the soon to be released sony tipo which runs android 4.0? both about the same price, but the nokia has a 1.4ghz processor next to the tipo's 800mhz. from personal experience, android is utter dogsh*t (i think i used 2.3 coming down from iOS 4), but i can't begin to imagine anything windows is good.

Depends on your preference, android has more apps, but windows will look much nicer/ run much faster.

If you do want android, consider the miro (out soon i think) or the Desire C as well

As an Apple fanboy I'd stick to what you know - I dont think you'd have the brains to handle either an android or windows phone. (_;)

Awesome deal, this phone is excellent too with great features

Fantastic phone, and don't get caught up in the whole "Can't be upgraded to PH8" debate. If you need a cheap, reliable, easy to use SmartPhone it's hard to beat at this price.

I really want a windows phone device so I can play on the XBOX arcade games with my gamertag etc, dont really want to pull away from my iOS (phone) or Google play (partners phone + tablet) accounts and invest in yet another marketplace for apps so don't want it as my main phone, just a media device to play xbox arcade games and stick music on that I dont want in my itunes library.

What I really want is an ipod touch kind of device but on WP. Would this be my best bet?

Stupid question - do most stores carry it or should I call an individual store or the helpline to find out stock availability? Do stores know about the deal?

I have recommended this phone to a lot of people and all of them are happy with it.
In the last update its got a range of new camrea features, wifi hotspot support, and there has been a recent bost to its app list.

Windows Phone 8 will be out at the end of the year, but this is a great all around smart phone, and good for older people too due to its clean and simple interface. For that money I think it is a really hard phone to beat.

Good phone for the price but a dead in the water operating system.Horrible and boring to use, poor facebook app,no file transfer via bluetooth,no micro sd card slot, cant use your own music as ringtones, basicly worse customisation then an iphone and no update to wp8 only tango.Avoid and buy and ace.Not as smooth but a better phone to use.

That should be a law. Fed up of hearing short bursts of peoples' **** music everywhere.

poor facebook app, cant use your own music as ringtones

1. It's actually not too bad now the official app, although I rarely use it as the People hub does a more than excellent job with Facebook.

2. Yes you can create your own ringtone.

No1 in apt user names...!
Come on, a 'better phone to use'? For who exactly? Your mum? Would she benfit from all the customisation and tweaking options etc? Of course not! For anyone who wants a phone to just 'work', then a wp device beats pretty much any android device out there right now.

I don't believe ANY review has labelled WP 'horrible to use'!! There are things that can be thrown at WP, but horrible to use isn't one of them. By all unbiased opinions, it's the single most intuitive UI on a smart phone yet.
Boring to use? Well, that's personal opinion. I find it great, clean, neat, and straight to what I want.
Poor facebook app? Eh? Does everything I need, exactly WHAT is missing that is so vital? No BT File transfer? erm, so? Can't remember the last time I used it. Honestly, I can't. Nice feature perhaps, but hardly a deal breaker is it? I bet most users wouldn't know how to use it if it did have it! No MIcrosd slot? Ok, that's one I would like to have, but I've got the 800, and its got 16 gig, but still, I'd like the ability to have more. But no expandable memory is not unique to WP devices is it? You can use your music as ringtones, but you need to use an app to do it.

Trolls accuse me of being a MS fanboi, well if having used both, and deciding that WP suits me, most of my family, and most people who see and use it, better than a similar android equivalent, then yes, label me up.
But to most people, I am merely a tech fan who uses most toys, but wants a phone to be straight forward, hassle free and intuitve, so given the options, I choose WP.

I can completely understand why, IF you want to fiddle, IF you want to flash new ROMS, and IF you want to spend all day adapting the interface to suit every little need and like, then Android is for you. It has a better range of apps, it has a better range of hardware and it has a huge array of choice.
If you want a phone to just work, right out of the box, for £100, then this WP Nokia beats anything Android at the price range.

Will it get WP8? No it won't. Will it stop working when WP8 appears? No it won't. Willl the apps stop working when WP8 apeears? No, they won't, and they wopn't stop releasing either. There are somewhere upwards of 15 million WP users out there, does anyone seriously believe that all the WP devs will dump WP7.5 for 8 the second it comes out, sacrificing a user base of that many for one with none? Of course not. Apps will be coming for a good while yet!
Remember, WP7.5 apps will run on 8, so if a dev wants to ensure maximum customer base, they will be making them WP7 compatible for some time yet.

God, I'm ranting. But I hate it when trolls accuse me of being a fanboy. I use tech, and it happens that my prefernce in this area is for a WP device. I guess that by simply not being a android fan I must therefore be attacked eh? I suppose that's what the internet is for.
If you want to have a pop at something, back it up with facts, not frothing vitriol. And if youo want to throw accusations at me, back them up to rather than just screaming 'fanboy'.

Actually you can easily use individual ringtones, instructions are on the Windows phone website.

For the price, a brilliant phone and considerably cheaper than an iphone

I like it because it's idiot proof, for me that's necessary8)

good deal, Nokia are discounting heavily trying to regain market share, bought this on the last deal, the more i use this phone the more i like it, the nav is great, free maps for most of the planet and no data roaming charges as the maps sit in the phone. Windows software has just had an update. The 710 has a changeable battery which is a plus, only minus is no card slot. I reach for the nokia more than my work samsung S2.

Most stores should have stock, It's not a special deal and is clearly displayed in store under the nokia 710 dummy/phone listed as upgrade price

It makes sense in the short term as well, reintroduce people to Nokia and hopefully they will want to upgrade/replace the phone with another Nokia in the future. The grip Android has on this sort of market is high and 2bh rightly so, as the product is good. Definitely room for Nokia/Windows based phones though :).

I would have a play with a Nokia Lumia range phone if I was in the market for one and at this money, it is very tempting for anyone in the sub £100 market!

Nokia Drive (yes different phone used in the link below, same sofftware though) seems impressive >

engadget.com/201…or/

This phone is a similar price to a basic TomTom, but you get freely updated worldwide offline maps. Could just buy this phone and use it purely as a sat nav.

"All in all, however, I can confidently say that Nokia Drive is the best purely offline navigational tool on the market, on any mobile platform. If you count yourself a Lumia owner already, there's no reason to not take advantage of the power within -- it's a free download, after all."

The first few of those things are true of Android, not WP. WP has the most unified strategy (single user interface across PC, Xbox, Phone and Tablets) best user experience of any phone OS, is the fastest and most responsive OS and has the best Facebook (and Twitter / Linked In / MSN) integration of any device on the market.

BT file transfer is not yet available, but its hardly an issue as everything on the phone is stored on the cloud anyway, and it syncs via WiFi also. It is coming soon though: wmpoweruser.com/rum…ts/

Micro SD is not needed - WP uses cloud storage and streaming.

You CAN use your own music as Ringtones. microsoft.com/win…spx

You get an update to WP7.8 which gives you pretty much everything the Windows 8 does that you have the hardware for...

My Samsung Omnia crashes all the time and restarts... IE browser is horrific to use, the music navigation takes far too many clicks just to play some shuffled music..

Hands down iphone is the better OS as I've owned all 3 types....

Have to agree with richto

I've used Android for years and years, on a phone and then later on a tablet (which I still use as there isn't anything else I can put on it ROM wise)

However I ditched Android on my HTC HD2 about 20 months ago and put WP7 on it - utterly enthralled by such a simple, beautiful OS that just works.

So much so that I still use WP7.5 today on my Lumia 710 - great phone and a great OS. The HD2 is now in my brother in laws mitts and he enjoys it too.

Do i miss the fact that I can customise my Android wallpaper to have it look like a live fish-tank> Haha - no. That is very last century.

I have absolutely no plans to go anywhere other than stick with WP7.5, then 7.8 and then onto 8, if it takes my fancy. However, at this point in my life, 7.5 does everything I need it to do, effortlessly, cheaply, with some great features - and - as I have said many times before on these sorts of posts, I have a phone that I use when I want, where I want, without me feeling like with android that I was a slave to the phone.

Great deal. Heat added.

About time you connected to a PC and updated it then, or got the hardware replaced. I own 2 Omnias and havnt had a single stability issue since the first update well over a year ago...iphone sucks in comparison to the user interface on WP.

IE was the fastest mobile browser on any platform when launched. It is faster to find a streamed track or to shuffle on WP than any other platform. To play all of your music in random order, just select Music + Videos, then on the first 'Zune' screen press Play music at the bottom of the screen...i.e. only 2 presses required!

Im actually due an upgrade on both of mine, but im holding off for WP 8 as the Omnias are perfectly good WP handsets. Although I am tempted to fork out for a Lumia 900 as they are such great looking phones, but versus £400 quid i know i will be annoyed if I do once the WP8 ones come out....

Going by what I see of friends phones IE remains amongst the best, if not still the best mobile browser...
And as for music, if youo've set a playlist, youo can link it to the homescreen and start it in one press!
