Nokia Lumia 735 £129.99 on Orange/T-Mobile Upgrade. Blue actually in stock @ Carphone Warehouse

I used an old Orange number that I topped up in November. However, only now has their online system decided to approve for the upgrade price. This means you don't have to worry about buying any extra credit and it is unlocked because its from Carphone Warehouse.

Also, blue is finally in stock because I have got my dispatch email in the past couple of hours.

So if you were declined on an upgrade last year, it's well worth giving it another go.

£160 + £10 topup otherwise.

Why would anyone buy a windows phone

I hate Windows 8.1 on my Laptop ...... it is the absolute worst OS ever invented ..... but, I must admit, I like Windows on my Nokia Smartphone - weird that?

Because they are a joy to use

This is a great handset for the price, I believe it includes NFC and wireless charging also built-in. The front camera is one of the best for Selfie photo's, the codename of the device before release was Selfie Phone if I recall correctly, will get one to see how it compares to other handsets we have and tested at the office.

Brilliant specs. The cameras on this are actually decent. There sounds like there are some good updates ahead for Lumia phones. Pitty about app support though. If this had most of the apps I use on my Moto G, then I would most instantly purchase this.

WHY? Seriously, 8.1 is basically Windows 7 but with far better memory management, faster more secure etc...

It seems everyone likes to bash Metro but it was designed for touchscreen, if you do not need it then you no longer have to use it!

Windows 8 is by far the best OS MS has ever made.

More to the point why would anyone who wouldn't buy a Windows phone bother to read and post on a Windows phone thread ?

I have a Windows phone and I love it. Horses for courses and all that.

Battery is pretty impressive too.

Just add classic start menu. W8.1 is actually very, very good.

I dont like android, its just no intuitive. tiny icon for phone when thats the one i use the most. huge "desktop" space for widgets to clog up memory and make phone laggy. just waiting for a higher spec one with brilliant shutter button to come down in price.

Because it's a good phone ? Less restrictions than many Android ? (Sony Z2 is RIDDLED with restrictions) Nowhere near as big a gap in apps as once were ?

I think you'd probably find most ARE available for Windows Phones. You'd be surprised Candy Crush ? Yeah. Thats on Windows Phones

What's the maximum size for the SD card for this? Everywhere just seems to state it has a slot, but no mention of max size.

I believe is 128Gb based on previous reviews on the new Lumia range, and even the last couple of year's range I'm sure did support up to128Gb, sadly I cannot allocate the reviews to include the link here currently.

This handset is had allot of good reviews because for the price it covers most areas.

yeah will accept a 128gb card and works fine

Nice, might go for this in that case, currently have a 5s but 16gb is not enough for all my music.

Only use my phone for music, social networking and texts so I think this will hold up fine for that.

Can you install apps onto the SD card? I use Deezer so will need to be able to install that to the SD and then sync all the music to the sd card also.

Yeah most apps can be. The odd one can't because the developer doesn't allow it.

Yes you can install most apps on the card, also if you like music you'll love the free offline ad-free MixRadio which personally I use everyday however I've gone for the £4 a month subscription to remove limitations.

Have fun :-)

To ask that question you have a belief that they're no good, so please give us your rationale behind your belief.

Assuming that this is a question. In my opinion:
- Good value for price (for entry models especially).
- Seems to have good support (my 520 just received Cortana)
- Software is stable, including the major apps.
- The casing is quite durable (for the price)

Agree, for the price the new Microsoft ecosystem and devices have a lot to offer, we recently purchased the Linx 8 tablets and so impressed what you get for £80 region and if got it while on offer £50!! They have taken best of Apple and Google and injected it into the new canvas, personally since Windows 8.1 and Windows Phone 8.1 have been very happy also looking forward to Windows 10 which apparently all Windows Phone 8 devices will get the upgrade.

I had a nokia 520 and then 'upgraded' to a moto G... after getting the wife a 1020 at xmas I'm seriously considering going back to windows.

You will be able to upgrade your Linx too, only not sure if there will be charge.

That's good news, just read on another tech article that anyone with 8.1 will get 10 for free, 7 cheaper license fee and older not much information (all needs to be confirmed by Microsoft of course :-) )

That's just a rumour at the minute.

I work for CPW, must say, this is such a cracking handset I picked one up myself as a second phone to my Z2 , cancelled my spotify premium (costing 10 p/m) and took a cheapo contract and replaced with a dan&phil 100gb free sim ! Mixradio is good from what ive used, just wish i could do individual tracks as a playlist - theres probably a way i just havent looked at it much.
As for wireless (Qi) charging, youd need to buy a new back cover and the charging pad, official covers are 25 and the pads are 30, unofficial no brand ones on ebay - 10 for case, sub 5 for pad

You sure it doesn't come with a wireless charging case already? because based on the reviews and info was under the impression that the back cover which comes in the box offers wireless charging?

The back plate on mine has the wireless charging gubbins built in - that's as it came out of the box (from Three Store)

Bought a Windows 8 phone last year and never looked back, miles better than the horrible iPhones and tons better than a memeory hogging, power hungry clunky OS like Android. Windows Phone 8.1 is actually a proper streamlined and refine OS that just works. Agree with it being horrible on a desktop, its atrocious on a computer but on a touchscreen is where its at its best.

Yep, great on a phone ......... the worst OS ever invented on a laptop or Desktop.

For those who say install another program to rectify Windows 8.1 on a PC/Laptop .... why should that be needed? And those programs do not remove the awful, terrible, unforgivable, charm bars which fly in from all over!

Great for phones though!

I am getting tired of reading the same old cack from Windows Phone fanboys in these threads.

I detest android it is a horribly clunky OS, I detest Apple as a company, I like iOS on their phones but would never buy one of their overpriced handsets, so that leaves Windows Phone...so why am I not jumping all over it....

Despite it having a fantastic operating system it is all down to the criminally lacking apps. You get defensive Windows Phone fanboys defending it by saying 'well how many apps do you need', or 'it has all I need'

Moto App - Pretty much essential everytime you stop at services on the Motorway to save you a ton of money at purchases in any of the eateries...use it regularly, not on Windows Phone. Here is what I find lacking on my wife's phone that has me reaching for my clunky android phone.

Freesat App - Winner of Mumsnet family app of year, yet not available on Windows Phone, an essential for us Freesat Plus owners for triggering recordings whilst out and about...and useful at home for browsing the epg.

Lack of support for fitness apps (other than fitbit)

Lack of support for paying by phone via many a council across the country for public transport travel..meaning struggling as a tourist finding the right change.

In fact Windows Phone is missing just about any local council tourism/travel app, just about any UK based store/restaurant discount app, most electronics manufacturers apps for remote control of devices via your handset etc etc.

Now if anyone has solutions to any of the above, I would switch to a Lumia 735 in a heartbeat, otherwise stop with the crap that Windows phones are not missing apps.

ps...I do not really want to be carrying around two handsets, so unless anyone has any solution to the above I will stick with my android junk..would be grateful if anyone has any advice though on why they never have any problems missng apps? Perhaps they do not use any?

Agree, if the phone is not for someone why are they so keen on expressing it in a deal alert for that device! It makes more sense for people who are interested in this offer or device to comment :-)

That is complete crap and you know it. Ther differences between the operating systems is much smaller than the various proponents like to make out - open Android has various restrictions and 4.4 locked down SD card use making it almost useless. Secure iOS has seen many well documented security problems. And for all Windows phone much praised smoothness it is very laggy, yes it is, it hides it though with slooowwww animations.

WP achiles heel is the app gap. If you are not bothered about having the latest must have apps then you will be fine. I enjoyed WP last year and I fancy getting another this year - as a second device of course, I wont make the mistake again of being stuck with WP as an only device - and the 735 sounds like a good choice. It is a pity that I used my payg upgrade to get my daughter a 530 for christmas. I am looking formard to seeing the 535 as well.

Who on HUKD would not want money saving apps?

I am not even saying apps I have listed I would use daily, but I find increasingly when the wife and I are off on a weekend break somewhere, or stopping at services that if we relied on my wifes Windows phone we would be paying through the nose or inconvenienced.

I personally could not care less about latest apps or trends of games with Windows phones, it is what I have already stated that is the main problem..useful discount apps, restaurants, travel etc that are the biggest achilles heel for me with Windows phone.

I couldn't personally care less that it has taken 2 years to get Candy Crush Saga on it, some might though.
