The camera has an integrated flash with anti-red eye mode, an easy slide-down back to bring up the viewfinder and a dedicated shutter button, and can give you different picture sizes up to 1600 x 1200 pixels.

Yes, this can be unlocked (most likely to arrive unlocked though). I would prefer a Nokia N70 over a BenQ Siemens handset

I have the Nokia N70 and running Tomtom on it.

Can this run tomtom navigator 6?

Runs tomtom mobile not navigator. Have unlocked mine myself using a DKU-5 cable and free software on the web.

CrackerJack

Can this run tomtom navigator 6?

NO

It has problems with TomTom though.

Many users say it loses the GPS signal.

Also there will not be any new maps for TomTom v5.20.

New maps only available with V6.xx TomTom which does not work with this phone.

Good phone, had one for a 12 month now, unlocked mine the same as mikeyp. Can't justify another one...although I'm tempted :O

Only downside I'd say which is not just with this model (seems a few nokia's have this problems) is if you use a hardwired (professional fit) bluetooth car kit other than a Nokia there is a fault with it not fully disconnecting from the bluetooth which gives an echo to the other person ringing when using normally (not through bluetooth, and resolved when you turn the phone off and back on...until it sync's with the bluetooth again), something to be aware of if you do have a hardwired bluetooth car kit which is not Nokia

mikeyp

Runs tomtom mobile not navigator.

TT Mobile is now called navigator.

I have TomTom 5.91 running from my N70 and I have very rarely had problems with it...the phone does ocassionally lose the GPS signal but most of the time, it's fine. However, the screen movement when TomTom is running is very jerky (especially if u drive at high speed & the phone can't keep up)...the N73 is much better for running TomTom on but thaat phone has got numerous other problems! IMHO, the N70 is the best N Series phone on the market as it does not suffer from software problems (e.g. lagging, etc)...the same can't be said for the others.

Ive had this phone for about a year, great phone, only downside is it is really slow compared to non 3g phones. It takes a couple of seconds to think about everything it does (ie press to go to Messaging, a couple of seconds, new text message, another second or so) Might not sound that long, but it adds up and gets frustrating when youre used to instant non symbian phones. Got generic firmware installed in the end, sped it up a bit, but still has a lot of thinking time.

Personally if I were looking at a new phone Id be more interested in newer models like the 6300 - very sleek, tiny memory card too, and fast. But as its not symbian dont think it runs stuff like TomTom - but who uses phones for TomTom now anyway, carrying about external antennas?

I don't think the N70 supports TT v6.xx whereas the N80 does. However, the N80 is much slower than the N70

Ahhh so it must be a firmware thing then? The Three N80 on v3 fw had problems with BT on Tomtom. v4 firmware fixed it.

can i unlocked this mobile?

Same question people.

Can i unlock to o2?

Thanks in advance.

Yes you can and once unlocked, the handset is open to all network

This site do it for £8. However, check with a high street mobile shop first if they can do it straightaway & cheaper

You can unlock it yourself for free using software called Dejan BB5 unlocker(google it) and a DKU-5 usb cable I have unlocked N70, 6630 and 6680 with it and it works fine a little techie knowledge needed but not alot

Nice find, ordered! Voted hot.
Thanks for the voucher Bubba!

I got the same phone on 'three' a month ago. Lets clear some things up.

TomTom6 will not run, it's a symbian v3 app (N73, N80 etc.)

TomTom5 WILL run. The latest map you can run on TT5 is '660.1223'.

TomTom runs at full speed - i've got a Go 300, 700 and One in the family and it's no different.

The signal issues - once in a while you will lose your bluetooth connection. All i can reccomend is not to have any POIs displayed, you can still have speed camera warnings flash up but don't clog the phone up with them permanently displayed. Usually mine drops after 15 mins of a journey, you then just go back through the menu and let it find the GPS again, then it's fine for the rest of the journey (and have done 3 hour journeys this way).

Other times its not even dropped a signal.

What you should do however, is debrand it when you receive it. This way I'm on the latest firmware (v5.0705.3.0.1 ) rather than 3's own v2.

This phone isnt on "3" its on Voda

:? I said 'I'm on'. This phone will presumably be the same system, crippled by Voda's own custom firmware, hence the need to debrand.

A market stall will not be able to unlock this phone.

Only Vodafone can unlock this phone and it won't be that cheap.

High street stores cannot unlock this phone.

And, this phone is buggy, slow and naff. Not worth £80.

Have to agree it is slow, and a bit naff, but its okay - as long as you have patience with it.

Most networks will unlock it for £15 if you call them.

I beg to differ, i own a high street shop, and yes i CAN unlock this phone.
Your traditional market stall unlockers will also be able to unlock this phone.
And yes in the current market this phone is worth the £75.99 that it can be had for. In my opinion of course.

Mine hasn't tracked either. Says it can take up to 3 days on quidco.

The way to do it is quite involved, but nothing too difficult, just requires some reading first. Nokias own software does most of the work for you. But you have to trick it into believing the phone isnt an Orange or Vodaphone etc phone, and is sim free - you do this by using a program called NSS to change the code that tells the updater which phone it is locked to. Changing this code doesnt unlock the phone, but it does allow you to install generic firmware via the Nokia Updater program, if you keep the code the same the nokia updater program will only search for firmware updates released by the network, with the branding! Changing this code also invalidates your warranty, but you can always change the code back to what it was, and Nokia wouldnt actually know youd changed it using NSS (its marked as an 0529xxx number under the battery).

This takes a bit of technical know how, or a willingness to learn about it, so its not for everyone, and dont blame me if it goes wrong! NSS now comes with the ability to change the code without the addition of GSMMagic so you can ignore that part of the instructions if you go ahead with it.

It was certainly worth changing my phone, as the Orange Homescreen really crippled it.

No, my Orange phone had an entirely different navigation menu, no active standby, to read a text it took three presses of different buttons! Now with generic firmware its faster and much more intuitive - the way Nokia designed it to be before Orange got thier mits on the FW - not sure how they got away with it. Do a google for "Orange Homescreen N70" there's so many people complaining!

to all those concerned about unlocking if you read post 25 I've already gave the name of the software needed the software can be got from the web free all you will need to buy is a DKU-5 usb cable, please guys read the thread instead of just the last couple of posts.the direct link is here ]http//us…an/

it is the last program bottom left hand side of the page its name is : Nokis bb5 logger and unlocker (11.391 bytes)

The cable comes free with the N70 Showman - nice link. Can you assure theres no spyware in that download? Looks very good, but Im always a bit worried with exe files. Thanks

The "Orange Homescreen" (shudder) - I hated it instantly and only put up with it for about a week. I can understand the networks wanting a "consistant user experience" but crippling phones, treating customers like idiots and producing UI's a five-year-old would be embarrassed about is not the way to do it. (To be fair, I've seen the Voda UI too - it nearly makes the Orange one look good).

Debranding is definately the way to go with these - very nice phones and supposed to be faster/ more reliable than some of the later models (though the screen is clearly not as good).

Also, Nokia have just released an N70-compatible beta of their mapping software (Nokia Maps /Smart2Go) with external GPS support (turn-by-turn navigation costs but the basic maps are free if downloaded via a PC)
