They both use the same cooler, so take from that what you will.

yeah having read further it seems the cooler is the main probolem, not sure how drastic it's poor design would be for the lower power non XT version but prob worth missing if you are not intending to replace the cooler.

Yep the initial batch of the XT version, and the standard were a bag of poop, however now that the fans profiles work properly and the new cards all ship with the proper firmware the issues that were being seen are mostly gone. Nothing you can do about how much plastic surrounds the card, but from a thermals point=of-view it doesn't seem to cause any impairment nor does it add anything.

At £389 this was a rip off, at £299 it is almost a bargain.
For £299 it’s a good deal I personally have the 5700 but the msi evoke

Still every penny worth at this price and with the warranty there is nothing to worry about. Also this is the low power one so should be just fine.
£249 for the Asus reference card at OCUK after cashback redemption.

Edit: Didn't look at the photo properly; thought this was another reference card. Still might be worth the £50 saving for some. Apparently the blower cooler copes okay with the 5700.

I actually found this after I bit on the msi mech 5700 for 289.99 from ebuyer. Which was the better deal if you don't plan on the flashing. Steve from gamer nexus was reviewing the thicc model. Basicltly the same design yes but on closer inspection and research it is the improved version for sale here. Temps won't go much over 70 with even an xt bios on. For money upfront it's a awsome deal. I put together a 3600/5700/34gb ram @ 3600mhz build for 700 with these deals. That's a steal. Cheapest pre build online with same spec was 1270 here. stormforcegaming.co.uk/cry…tml
Well just need to source a case now so maybe 750 all in lol

It is not the improved version. It is the exact same cooling and heat sink configuration as the gamers nexus review. It may not be as much of an issue due to the lower power draw of the 5700, although the memory temps may still be high

So what do you think? piece of garbage or decent for the price ... debating what gpu to get.

I don’t know, there’s been not much coverage of the card. Steven from tech spot showed it had GPU temps of 65 degrees and memory temps of 76. Read it here. Very good temps but...

...the fans ran at 1800rpm, which is pretty fast and so is likely to be loud too. But you can always adjust the fan curve, although temps will obviously increase.

Noise isnt much an issue for me I live in a house with 4 kids and I wear headphones when gaming. Being the only sub £300 5700 card im tempted. ( yes I know i can get asus money back and everything but I dont have budget to spend and wait for moneyback ). I will wait till sunday night before purchasing so unless something good comes out over the REAL black friday weekend.
Video I based my research on. Steve has this exact card with thermals. It's far better than his review of the thicc ii
ebuyer.com/921…-oc

This msi mech oc is the one I went with at 299.99.the day after this was posted. I would have gone with this a day later. The link above is an open box version for £289 still a good deal
Anyone going for a stock 5700 to re-flash bios to XT (or do software equivalent?)
Doing it when miy one gets to me on Thursday. Using this method
igorslab.media/ung…/3/

Powerplay table. As my card does not have a matching xt bios to flash
flash a bios with a chance to brick your card and lose £300? its also will void warranty, so yeah good tips :\

It’s better because it has a lower power draw, but it has the same cooling solution

The xfx has dual bios I think so pretty safe, no?

I mean through the power play table. Not an actual bios flash. Done through the power play it's a Windows registry edit. And won't void warrenty

While my German is a little basic, I think that is the guide that requires messing around with the Registry. This guide just uses MorePowerTools to (software) reflash the bios safely and no messing around:
