People who complain that New York is only skyscrapers need to get out of midtown Manhattan. That's like visiting London and only going out in:

much better for going out, some real "hot spots" like Piccadilly etc

oh dear.

Grow a moustache, get over the bridge and hang out with the hipsters in Brooklyn. Some lovely things to see over there and some of the old houses are beautiful. Last time I was in NYC I stayed in Astoria, Queens and had a blast. It was about 20 minutes on the Subway (parts of which run 24 hours...can London match that?) to Central Park.

Seriously London and New York are the capitals of the world. If can visit one of them for this price, go for it
So, 5 pages, and none of the suckers actually confirms having bought a ticket with this outfit. Plus a few people who aren't even going anywhere just whining how NYC is just like London. And they didn't buy a ticket either. All talk, no sale.

Some deal. I'll stick to Opodo. Nice hint there for the guillible.

Btw, did you know, the word "Gullible" doesn't actually exist in any dictionary? Go look it up.

Hahah, I did go to Brooklyn as well actually (and our coach transfer driver took us briefly through the Bronx which looked no different from going to Edmonton or Tottenham). By hot spot and Piccadilly I meant somewhere with obvious signs of life.
I know Picadilly is 1 neon sign and too much traffic in itself, but wander off into Soho and surrounds and its at least got a buzz and interesting places to eat, drink, theatres, street artist, chinatwon etc etc. Whereas NYC is kinda dead (a bit like the City of London is at weekends when no one is there). But hey ho, I've been so don't care if you think I'm stupid or not, people do have their own choice to make up their own mind about the place. It was just my opinion. (People knock Paris, and I love Paris! So horses for courses)

I'm not sure a train running for 24 hours is my idea of a good time

You don't buy a ticket with this "outfit" anymore than you buy teabags from HUKD, it's a link to the airline. I along with many others have bought tickets through their links.

Your posts have really enlightened this thread, I mean it was obvious you were rather intellectually challenged from your first post but to continue to display your full range of limitations has been quite awesome.

I've done really well then considering there is just one of me It's much better value travelling in twos(even better in 4's) as you get to share the room cost with someone. My trip would of only been £540 for 7nights/8days if i had been sharing with someone, so reckon i've done well

Thank you Lyssie, thats so kind of you. Recommend away!

I managed to get insurance for just over £10 with £1.40 to come back from Quidco.
Also got £1520 delivered for free for £1000 with the option to sell back any unused $$$ at the same rate i bought them for. No extra fees were charged for this service so was happy with that.
Also taking my Fairfx card incase i go a bit shopping crazy. Well, i suppose your only 40 once
Got a ticket for TOTR for £14 also. Decided against pre paid passes. Will just go where the wind takes me

Getting excited now. I'm 40 tomorrow & fly out on Saturday!!!

I agree, I forgot there was only one of you going!

Let us know how it went. New York is truly an amazing city.

I fly in six weeks and I can't wait.

Hi everyone, i've been back home exactly one week. I had an amazing time, just as everyone said i would. I had lots of people telling me how brave i was before i went & also while i was over there, but i loved every minute of being in New York on my own.

The Jane hotel is just outstanding for singles. Super clean, friendly staff & in a great location in the Meatpacking district/West village. 8 mins walk from the subway @ 8th ave/14th street & same distance to the start of the Highline for a lovely 1.2 mile walk uptown, with views of the Hudson & Empire State. At £66 per night i thought it was great value for a comfortable bed, A/C, fan, iphone dock/Radio, free wifi, free bike hire & a 1 litre bottle of Jane Hotel water per day.

I purchased a 1 week Metro card($30/£20) & a New York Explorer Pass(3 Attractions) for $79.99/£53 from Smart Destinations. As 1 of my attractions i paid $14/£9 to upgrade a hop on hop off single bus tour to the All around town bus tour. For this i got to go to the Bronx, Harlem, Brooklyn, Brooklyn by night, Downtown, Midtown, Uptown, a 90 Min cruise taking in the Statue of Liberty & other sights, free entrance to the Museum of New York & an Eat & Play card with discounts on shopping & eating act. All this was worth over $250. For my other 2 attractions i chose T.O.T.R & Empire State worth $50. The hop on hop off bus was invaluable & i used it to the max for 4 days even though it was only valid for 48hrs as the tour guide said they didn't mind Brilliant service!

I loved central park, 5th avenue(Tiffany for 40th Birthday present), T.O.T.R(wouldn't recommend Empire State), 230 5th for an amazing champagne brunch with fantastic views, Staten Island ferry & the meatpacking district for trendy shops & nightlife.

The flight with Kuwait was the best long haul flight i've experienced. I was firstly upgraded & had loads of leg room & room around me. My very tasty vegetarian/gluten free meal was served under 1 hr into the flight along with free soft drinks & coffee to end. Once the trays were cleared the lights were dimmed & i settled down with my pillow & blanket(provided) to watch a movie on my free headset. I then slept for 4 hours & awoke when the lights were turned up for my cooked breakfast, orange juice & coffee, which was again really good. We were handed a small immigration form to fill in & show. I was on the Airtrain to Jamaica($5/£3) within 40 mins of landing. The transfer from Air train to subway was an easy elevator ride down to the subway platform & then when reaching 8th/14th another elevator took me up to street level, so no stairs with my suitcase at all & only $2.50/£1.50

After 7 days of between 12 & 14 hours sightseeing per day my feet were red raw & i was in pain. Having substantially more luggage coming back home after discovering Century 21 you'll forgive me for caving 5 hours before my flight was die to take off & booking a Shuttle with Supershuttle.net for $20.69 including fees & tax. Shuttle arrived 1 hour after i booked it as promised & i was the 2nd to last pick up & nabbed the comfy & spacious front seat next to my driver. I think we arrived to JFK in just over an hour, however i was in a world of my own feeling sad & taking in every last view of New York that i could so i'm not too sure on the timings.

Lastly my Kuwait flight back had been canceled & they had transferred me onto an AA flight. I took the Airtrain from T4 to T8 & used one of the self check in machines & handed my very heavy case to a AA employee to be put onto the plane. No mention of weight so i made a very quick exit to a coffee shop to grab a quick coffee before clearing security & boarding my flight as it was to fly 70 mins earlier than mine so was already boarding! This being my first flight with AA, i was not impressed. Not as comfy, no free headset(my 2 pin Kuwait set wouldn't fit into the 1 pin AA) nasty food, non smiley hostesses with their beaks up in the air, seatbelt sign lit for nearly the whole journey(regardless of turbulence), toilet dirty, in fact the only good thing was the selection of free drinks served with the meals. Oh & a squashed croissant & a plastic tub of orange juice does not a breakfast make!!

Back home & already planning return with my 2 older kids next year! Will fly Kuwait

Have a great time t0mm!
