Bought one of these in the last sale that they had and it is a great bit of kit. With google play you have access to a vast array of apps. This tablet is now reduced by £30 from £179 down to £149. A steal at this price.

There is also a very active community for modifying the tablet with custom version of Android such as CM10/10.1 over on XDA

Having owned this for 2-3 months I can say it is one of the nicest android tablets I have used. The extra screen real estate over something like the Nexus 7 really sold it for me as I read digital mags/comics etc. and the weight is very comfortable in one hand.

Additionally the 32GB version is available for £179

Price drops appear to be across all retailers but remember you get a 2 year warranty direct with John Lewis if purchased there. Also you can get free next day delivery to your nearest John Lewis or Waitrose store.

fail.

@garethsmith72

.. you're quoting the Nook HD 7inch tablet. This deal is for the HD+ 9inch

Been looking at getting one of these for a while, to replace my 1st gen iPad. Will head down to JL at lunchtime. I trust it's the same price instore?

I've got a HD+ & since the update which let you put the Play Store on it (and as a result, a decent launcher), I've hardly used my Nexus 7. It'll play 1080p videos off the micro SD card without a problem. Great bit of kit IMHO.

I'm not sure if it is the same price instore but as it seems to be a national deal I would expect so. If it is let me know and I'll update the post.

If not though you can get it next day delivered for free to your local store via the website.

A great bit of kit for the money - very sturdy build and excellent 9" screen. Got one a while back from CEX for £120.

Register it with B&N for the warranty then stick Cyanogenmod 10.1 on it for the full Jellybean 4.2.2 experience.

Looks good! Great price. I fancy one of these. HOT!

Anyone know why Argos are still charging £179.99?

I'd love to buy one for my wife but I have Argos vouchers to use up so would prefer it if they sold it at £149.99!

found it sluggish once you'd got some media on it. felt like the storage was being used as cache, so order online for delivery so you can try and return within your 7 day cooling off. buy in the shops and i dont think you can return it @ Argos as its excluded

Looks like they are still £179. The only updated priced Nook tablet they have is the 8GB HD @ £99. Keep an eye on their website to see if it updates though.

Should fall further as B&N have dropped out of the tablet market and will be using 3rd parties to produce new nook models ..

Amazon 1:0 B&N

Utterly excellent piece of kit, best tablet at £179 for my purposes (text books and videos) destroys anything at £149.

Excellent build quality, good battery.

Great deal

That's a general android issue. My Nexus 7 ground to a halt when I "only" had just under a gig of free space on it. Shove a 64gig microSD card in your nook HD(+) and you're sorted.

Mmmm, no camera, that could be the decider. My wife would like to chat to our daughter and no camera means sound only

I have this and the Nexus 7 and I always use this as the screen is stunning allowing you to see sites fully in portrait. there a 2 Tom's available at xda, cm10.1 or carbon, I am currently using carbon which is er quick and has extra features but is prone to the odd reset. this is worth every penny. you can also install cm10.1 on a SD card only leaving you stock for when you want access it.

Is 1 GB of ram enough for this kind of device.I know my Galaxy Note 2 phone has 2GB and it is at present using around 1 GB of that..

Samsung and bloat go together. You will be fine.

is this better than galaxy tab 2 ???

If you mean the 10.1 inch version then no. It lacks much. Apart from the screen, it's not at all.

You should try less to categorise them according to which is better, and think about which is more suitable. Neither of them are better.

New standard pricing, much better.

uk.nook.com/buy

still old higher price in store. I decided against buying for the moment, so didn't ask staff if they'd match the website price.

no GPS either. no ambient light sensor? no bluetooth?

It's a budget tablet, at a budget price.

damn this site just cost me another £150

You can save another £10 off the price as Quidco are offering 7% cashback from Nook, making the HD+ £138.57 if all goes well. 4 More days only for the increased cash back. The 2 year guarantee from John Lewis is tempting though.

Hope you went through quidco....:p

No I went for the two year warranty through John Lewis

Yeah I think it might be worth £10

I've just been into John Lewis to check them out. The Android Skin that the Nook has changes the feel of the tablet completely from a 'normal' Android tablet. I would advise having a play with one before purchasing if you are expecting them to be like other Android tablets. It may or may not put you off. It wasn't for me but this deal is hot.

So tempted... but there's already more tablets in my house than the local Boots pharmacy.
Must resist

Good deal, but will wait a bit longer and see if they go to .97 or .98 @ PCWorld and then go on a wild goose chase to find one!

Re: Bluetooth. Had a lengthy conversation with JL tech support this afternoon trying to work out if it had it. Barnes and Noble site says yes, JL say no. However, the chap on the phone pointed out the no quibble 90 day return policy - so if I return it because there is no bluetooth (even though the JL website tells me it isn't there), I can get a refund. BT is a deal breaker for me, as I want to supplement the sound at home through a BT speaker.
