Before anyone says its £59.99 the price changes at checkout due to 10% off.
Typical inaccurate Argos description, the screen is actually 1440X900 on these I think.
At least they've got the weight right on this one!

Correct. They've quoted the screen res of the HD+ 9 inch version.
fair enough
although 1440 x 900 on a 7" screen isn't too shabby, especially at 50 quids
You can install CyanogenMod 11 on this -
then the tablet will run kitKat (= current version of Android).

Great screen. but no webcam, no GPS and no brightness sensor.
Still, great to consume content due to better screen resolution than the other refurbs.
I have the 8gb with cm mod, great tablet, it use it as my traveling tablet and keep my 8.4s at home
These Nooks are excellent, especially if you have children as you can set up individual profiles and limit what access they have to the internet. I have the Nook HD and a Nook HD+ and the screen resolution is amazing on both when watching films. Highly recommended. Also, it takes a micro SD card.
Paid £79 for mine when B&N started selling them off. Lovely screen and takes microSD, don't know what else you'd want at this price really.
Ordered for the Wife thanks.
i have the same tablet with android kitkat,it runs everything smoothly from web serving, gaming to watching hd videos from the 64gb micro sd card, great tablet & the sound quality & volume level is good much better than the nexus 2013.
Battery went faulty in my HD+ under a year... Argos played silly buggers and wanted to repair it, firmly told "No thanks, just refund!". Surprising how much tablet tech changes within a year picked up a cheaper, faster Hudl. Heat added however, because its a good deal, fingers crossed for no problems.

So you went for a smaller, rushed out tablet with a dramatically lower resolution screen and call that progress.
Does this come with a standard USB type charger?

Any HDMI connection?
Not really standard USB charger. It is their own 30pin style usb cable/data that likes its own fast wall charger. No HDMI connection at all even after rooting and using CM11. Nice little tablet, I have 4! I have KitKat running on 2 of them which I will probably sell as I have a collection of tablets in my house (part of my job).
Second the comment on the speakers, I am often asking my kids to turn theirs down as they are loud!
WOW...bought one of these after seeing the 8gb version posting and didn't think it was worth a separate UKHD post, so I just mentioned it in that thread.

How wrong I was.
Any ideas on the gaming performance for these?

I bought this from Argos Outlet 3 weeks ago.

I installed CyanogenMod 11 (kitkat) - link forum.xda-developers.com/sho…t=7 - and am delighted with it. For watching films, reading, accessing Google Play etc it's perfect and I primarily use it for the daily commute. As others have mentioned it has expandable memory. One point is that the mains charger with the 30-pin connection is unique to the device and stock appears to be in short supply. However the Oxford branch of Blackwells are selling them for £14.99 (£10 discount), but they are only available direct from the store and not via the online site. Admittedly this pushes up the price but of course it's an optional purchase.
irons2014,
thanks for the info.
Just received mine today from Argos/Ebay, so far so good.

Got mine today and followed this thread at xda, went very smoothly and up and running with 4.4.4, very happy
Mine just arrived looks new
The 16gb has this moment gone out of stock but still plenty of 8gb left in stock.

Went for one of each and both were dispatched today, hopefully they will arrive in decent shape.
Bit the bullet and went for this yesterday. Having second thoughts now lol
Both mine arrived, one via Royal Mail and the other via a Carrier.

Outer packaging on both a little scruffy but both tablets look brand new.

Very pleased.

Went for 'snow' rather than 'smoke', and it arrived Friday. Like others, box a bit tatty but item looks as new. So far so good, though I may have to reformat SD card from my old Touchpad.
Thanks for the replies about cases guys.

I haven't rooted a device in ages and I understand that it's a bit fiddly on the nook. Not looking forward to doing it tbh.
Just received my nook and realised Argos have sent me the 8gb version in a 16gb box!
Did they charge you for the 16gb?

Its been out of stock for a few days now so they may not be able to swap it for you, maybe a voucher or credit plus let you keep the 8gb? Hope they sort it for you.

I ordered the 16gb but some mixup must have happened. The lid of the box says 16gb but the nook serial number on the bottom half of the box matches the device which is 8gb. I'm assuming the top and bottom of the box got mixed up. I'll contact them this morning and hope they can find a replacement.
Spoke with Argos and they say they don't replace items so I'll have to send it back and order a replacement if I want. They said to let them know when I do so as they can then refund the difference in price if it's gone up. From the reviews I've read about them though I don't trust them to do so.
@teerex If I was you, seeing as the 16GB and 8GB are now out of stock, I'd stick with the 8GB and get them to refund you the fiver or so difference in price for those refurbs.

I got an 8GB model as the 16's were sold out when I went for it. Just arrived today and installed Cyanogen as per the link above. Very happy with the results. Much nicer than the stock B&N OS.

(another bonus - there was an 8GB SD card left inside it!!!)

The install was easy. The only things that caught me were:
1. I wasn't sure if I should download the nightly or snapshop build of Cyanogen. I went with the most recent nightly and it worked fine.
2. The instructions make it sound as though you need a second sd card to do the baseline backup after Cyanogen is installed. I just stuck my bootable SD back in. This caused it to boot the recovery system from the SD instead of the internal memory, but that didnt matter and I backed up my new CM11 system to the same SD I installed with.

The only problem I've had is that trailers won't play in Flixter. Video works fine on other apps (youtube, browser, imdb etc.) Has anyone else noticed this problem?
Thanks for the advice Brian_u but I think it's some sort of omen so I'm sending it back Lol. I was thinking of cancelling before it was delivered anyway but I was really impressed with it when it turned up.
