Great deal. This will get HOT!
Ive ordered mine from Ver.co.uk, created a new account to get the £30 off so I got the 9" version for 99 quid, surely thats the best deal out there
Available direct from Nook uk.nook.com/tab…-hd at this price now the current RRP, but probably best getting this via a merchant for future warranty returns as Nook have now given up producing their own tablets so support may disappear in future.

This is rootable to make it a stock 4.2 device.

Also don't forget the 9" HD+ for £129 16GB / £149 32GB

Sainsbury's Nook HD+ 9" £129
I just got the 9 inch one from john lewis as they give a 2 year guarantee. ... handy if barnes and noble don't last that long!

Do you need to have a credit account, or can you just pay by card & get the discount?
it creates a credit account that you can pay off immediatly with a credit card
i got the code for very.co.uk off here somewhere
RRP so the deal is?

I'm pretty sure that B&N have backtracked, and are now back in the tablet market, so warranty shouldn't be a problem

Having said that, if they changed their mind once, they could change it again...
I'd still buy it from someone else rather than B&N, their organisation and customer service is pretty poor in my experience.

I've read that the Nook logo will be appearing on other tablets in future, but they won't be specifying or distributing their own hardware, so are likely to close their European distribution arm.

I do like this tablet and if I complete my chores tomorrow may reward myself with it, but I'd get it through Sainsbury's rather than direct in case it needed a refund within 12 months, much simpler to hand it over to a random person at the customer desk in store. There's a bit of discussion in another deal thread where someone is having problems getting any response from Nook in Poland after having to return one for repair.

Still not sure what the hole is for on the 9" version? Retractable dog lead so the kids don't lose it?

Nice tablet. Using my 32GB HD+ to post this. Haven't rooted it yet but installed the Nova App which gives it a more android feel. Automatically downloaded firmware version 2.1.0 and manually installed version 2.1.1

That's so you can spin it like a cowboy spins his guns.
So is there any discount codes for Sainsbury's?
Same prices at Blackwell's and free delivery too. I got one from broad st. and loving it.
Asda is another option - you can order online and collect in store and you get 5% Quidco on electricals at the moment so a possible £3.75 cashback.....

EDIT - second thoughts don't bother. If my experience is anything to go by Asda will send you an opened one in a tatty box which someone has obviously used and taken back.....so back to the store we go......

How good are these? Is it possible to use as an android tablet?

You can install the Nova app which gives it a more android look and feel. To make it a native android device it can be rooted.
Just got the 16gb version for £94.97 (home delivery only - free) at PC World with the code "TABL5" All tablets and cases 5% off.
This is a fantastic price, I got my snow coloured one only 1 month ago from Argos for 99.99, I was so happy with it as the battery life can last a long haul flight. Irony... Got the tablet from Argos but it's not compatible with the android Argos app.
With the new firmware giving access to google play, there really isn't much need to root the nook hd. However because the internal memory is so small, use the savings and get a massive capacity sd card, I read somewhere that its possible for these nook hd, hd+ to use 64gb sd cards. Then mod the device to use the external sd card as default storage and mod it to side load the amazon App Store to get paid apps for free. Coupled with the hi res screen it's better than the 1st gen nexus7.

Definitely, the new firmware on nook hd, hd+ comes with the google play store, so you can access all the apps from there, if you mod it, you can side load the amazon App Store and get a selected paid app for free on a daily basis. Couldn't ask for more, plus the nook supports profiles for children so that you can preset it to limit how the kids use it, however you do have to register your credit card with b&n to get this service, a right pet peeve, but as a tablet, it's really good.

There are no Nook tablets on their site anymore, you must have got the last one...
Search the Nook store for the app "Browser plugin", it essentially allows flash playback.

Last night in my Nook HD+, I was watching content on the iPlayer site in Firefox Browser (not via the iPlayer app).
I ordered a nook hd from Nook and one from John Lewis. The screen on the one direct from Nook is significantly brighter and sharper than the John Lewis one. I have returned the nook to JL and put jellybean 4.2.2 on the one from Nook so I have probably voided the warranty anyway. Jellybean looks a lot nicer than the stock Barnes and noble ROM.

Why are you the only person to mention Nooks being different from JL? JL is not a cowboy outfit.....why would they sell inferior products (if they are)? Also what was you thinking buying two from separate traders?

Since when did I say that JL were a cowboy outfit? I'm saying that the Nook's screen is made by two different manufacturers and one is better that the other. The two Nook's that I purchased had visibly different screens with the screen on the batch from JL in my opinion had the least impressive screen. I'm posted about the screens because it may help people decide where they purchase their Nook from. I have also read a review that stated that 2 different screens are fitted which confirmed what I am seeing.

Also, I'm not sure what it has got to do with you where I spend my money.

Or somewhere in the settings? I'd love to know

I've already mentioned how the screens differ with the power off, but I'm obviously wasting my time explaining it to you and to be honest I doubt if you would be able to tell the difference anyway.

OK I will try and make this really simple for you.

1. I am the only person that has bought a Nook direct from Nook and one from John Lewis.
2. When looking closely at the screen on the tablet I can see a matrix of dots which are not apparent on the JL one.
3. I do not know who makes the screens
4. I posted this to make people aware that there are 2 screen manufacturers
5. I am unable to find the review again that discussed the 2 screen types,

Now please go and troll another thread or you could spend your time trying to find a deal to post that is actually any good.

Lmao, nobody is "trolling" anyone here, just asking you to back up the "two screens theory" (which you can't)...grow up!
Is that "simple" enough for you?

1)You are the only person to buy the same product from two traders....don't know why you did that....
2) You appear to be the only person stating this issue....thanks for letting us know
3)You can't state any info about screens....that's no help is it?
4)As stated, you posted to let people know, again thanks for that but we would like more info...
5)You are unable to back up the two types of screen thing anyway!

The screens are Hd as the company says....that's all I need to know.....now stop abusing on here....and back up your statements

How can this be hot? It's only 512MB RAM and it's not even upgradeable without rooting.
Can anyone who owns one of these let me know if most apps will run on it?

Was reading a review on a tech website and it said they tried to install a few popular apps but they weren't compatible (Facebook being one of them).
Facebook and other popular apps are definitely available. Make sure you update the Nook software, from memory I think you are prompted to do so, and Google Play is installed giving access to most, if not all, android apps.
Thanks for replying, I've ordered a 7" 8gb one from isme.com. I had a £20 off a £50 spend voucher they sent me through the post a few weeks back so only paid £62.95 for it.
Took up the offer via Sainsbury's and the delivery came the very next day, Can't fault that one little bit. However, We are sending it back because the usb charger supplied with it is faulty and the cable isn't compatible with any other usb charger. It was a fantastic item whilst we had it, Sadly (according to the woman via customer services) they are out of stock and so we cant even exchange it. Just need to get a refund and purchase the item again once its back in stock (for hopefully the same good price)
Please don't let this comment discourage you from purchasing the Nook HD as it is a lovely piece of kit. Just personally gutted that we couldn't do anything with it. But the charger is an issue.
Installed Jelly Bean on my Nook HD the other night and now I am able to download a load of apps that weren't available before:

Sky Sports Score Centre, Trip Advisor and Rightmove to name but three.
