NOOK Simple Touch eReader available now for £29.00 @ ASDA Direct

I know that the £29 is a limited offer that could be withdrawn at any time so it may be an opportunity to secure one now. I don't think that anywhere else have any in stock so this may be the best option for anyone still wanting one of these ereaders.

You can order it and have it delivered in a week or so

Is this not the normal price now? It seems people post it every day at this price.

No it is a temporary price reduction, as part of a "Get London Reading" campaign - although the discounts are available outside of the capital. The promotion will be withdrawn so it's a scramble to get one before they go back up in price ...

Not entirely true. I emailed Nook customer services and asked them if they expected more stock in ( this was a few weeks ago) and if it would still be £29. I got a reply saying that they are trying to make the price permanent, but no guarantees just yet.

Just ordered a couple of these, don't forget the 3% topcashback guys.

good news if they can... I'm surprised that you managed to get any sense out of Nook though. I bought mine direct from them and every time I contacted them I got a different response.

I bought mine through Asda Direct, and they dispatched a few days before the promised dispatch date.

I bought mine online from Argos, when the original offer came on here, at the end of April. It was faulty when it arrived, and it took a month to replace it, due to stock issues. The replacement arrived last week, and it is working well. It is a great piece of kit. Some people have rooted theirs, to use the browser and stuff, but I plan to keep mine on stock, and use it the way it is meant to be used - for reading books.

The nook is a nice thing to hold and look at, but alas the customer service from barnes and noble leaves a lot to be desired!

I suspect the reduction in price has a lot to do with that, and the fact people want ereadrers with colour now.

Amazon don't seem to be moving with the Kindle though do they? You'd think that they would at least make some sort of gesture... is it ignorance or arrogance?

Can someone tell us how to route it?

Kindle prices have dropped; but while they probably sell at cost, they don't need to sell at a loss. Nook, being the 'underdog' has most to gain from undercutting Amazon, as they would hope to get the money back on ebook sales.

So it's arrogance if you want to call it that .... but probably just being realistic; Kindle continues to sell well (and much better than Nook) despite these frequent special offers.

It's currently £29 nearly everywhere if ASDA go out of stock. Was going to buy one a couple of days ago but lots of problems according to the thread on moneysavingexpert with the ones being received. There's a new version coming out soon so that's probably the 'real' reason for the reduction. There's a link on mse for the route details, also link for convertor to read kindle books on it.

I have to agree on the Customer Service experience. I purchased from Argos a couple of weeks ago. Within a few days I started to receive cryptic emails from nook suggesting that I had experienced difficulties with purchasing ebooks and that therefore my reader would be replaced. I hadn't attempted to purchase any books ?#!!!

Only through reading threads on HUKD did I realise that what they were probably trying to tell me (in anything but a comprehensible straightforward plain English way) ... that I had been supplied with a US spec device.

I won't bore you with the details but a series of similarly cryptic, disjointed and ambiguous emails followed which finally led to a replacement .... but not a pleasant or easy experience at all.

The product is okay but the customer service is a mess, not least of all because they allowed US stock to enter the UK supply chain in the first place. Oh Dear.

Good luck.

The Nook I received from Asda was packaged and sealed as expected but when I opened it the screen had fingerprints on and the back was a bit scuffed. Seems I got a refurb.

For anyone worried about the delay in delivery, don't be. Hopefully by then Nook/Barnes & Nobel will have sorted out the problem which is preventing people registering their devices (and you have to register it to be able to use it).

Anyone know anywhere thats in stock currently? Need one for my holiday new sunday

Got one when it was originally posted.

My wife and son both use it and it seems pretty good.

Being someone who fights technology I have to admit that I shall be loading up a few books for my holiday in August.

Just ring up your local store and ask them to reserve you one when they get new stock in. I did that and got a call that it was ready for collection or delivery two days later.

Good spot I have ordered thanks

If anyone is still holding out on these, then stop deliberating and pick one up! I received mine (from Argos) last week and it is a fantastic piece of kit. Almost exactly the same functionality as my gf's Kindle, and I actually prefer the way it is both touchscreen and button-page turn.

Finally got one after stores running out all over the place

Well my £4.71 inc p&p Nook flip case with screen protector film finally arrived yesterday, sturdy and does the job.
Leather? Who knows.

Into my 2nd ebook ever at the moment, first was a Kindle one I converted, 2nd direct from B&N.

Yes Nooks may still be avail at £29 now, but are new ones being manufactured aimed at a price like this I wonder?

They've fixed registration problem now...

Thanks for the info - been waiting days to register mine although Customer Services did say to me they expected things to have been resolved by tomorrow at the latest.

Great bit of kit, especially once rooted...
Mine does the Nook thing with a quick press of the n button but a long press takes me to ADW Launcher (Minimalist Black theme).
I've got Kindle (cheaper and more freebies than B&N store), Opera Mobile, Quick Office and Classic Words (Scrabble Clone) on there but the Nook will display any .epub file you place on the SD card, even without the root.

I never thought I needed one but the added features / apps available through rooting make it a very useful little gadget.
I however, won't be using it as a PS1 EmulatoroO

I'll stick with the kindle....bought one of these nooks about 2 weeks ago and compared to the entry level kindle, this product is woeful at best. Yes its 50% cheaper than the entry level kindle so I suppose 'you get what you pay for.'

Heat for the price but personally, I think their customer services is a joke and the product is a bit naff compared to the higher end of the market.
