to be fair I don't worry about privacy. I am more interested in using a vpn to be able to get UK tv in Spain.

If we have nothing to hide why do the government not answer FOI
Requests - oh I forgot, it's for their own good!

If you only want to watch different TV channels, then you only need a SmartDNS service. A VPN will slow your download, a SmartDNS service shouldn't. Many VPN suppliers offer it as an add-on or you can buy it on it's own and it should improve performance.

Agreed above. If you just want to stream from other countries. Use a DNS. For s VPN their are cheaper options too. VPN Unlimited is great for the price and offers similar.

Max of 5 devices

Only bug bear with if for me is if you mad out on connected devices and want to change. You have to wait a week in between removing one device and adding another to your account.

No android app for this yet (coming soon)

It's quite disappointing, I've been told the same. On another hand you can use openvpn protocol, so the privacy is OK in your handset as well Not the best, but does the job as a temporary walk around.

VPN only goes a little way to securing privacy. Almost every app for smart phones have tooooo many permissions. Anyone checked Chrome app lately? The permission list is longer than my arm!

I completely agree. However, this is about VPN with all advantages.

Thank you for this. This certainly ticks all the right boxes and 25 quid for a year. I cant complain!

how does that work? can you not input the vpn settings into your router and have all your devices connect to the vpn that way instead of using the vpn software per device?

ok i'm reading this. quite useful for you guys with vpn already... http://www.howtogeek.com/221889/connect-your-home-router-to-a-vpn-to-bypass-censorship-filtering-and-more/

been thinking about getting a vpn for a while, tried tunnelbear for free and it wasn't very good. I've heard good things about nordvpn... i'm voting hot.

Not sure why such rules apply. But I've only ever had to deal with it once. For the cost it's still brilliant. And I've never experienced slow downs with it when using it for the USA based services I use.

I use vpn unlimited I got a 3yr subscription for $19 can't beat that value for privacy.

Used this site and they do 10% off first order - they send you a code via email and use it when creating your vpn unlimited account works out less than £5 / year

aren't they based in US?

I'll give this heat before I hijack the thread! Is a VPN what I need to do the following, or would the smartDNS someone mentioned be what I'm after?

I would like to view US news channels, but sometimes, you get blocked because you're not in the US. I would also like to purchase from US or Australian websites, to have items delivered to my daughter and son who live overseas, but again some sites don't let you register if you are not in the actual country.

So what do I need? VPN or smartDNS?

Thanks for any help

I would suggest to check with their customer services - they have a chat option right on the page 24/7 and they have been pretty helpful in my case.

I was just talking about online privacy in general. Good find anyway. Heat added.

I bought deal from Pure VPN recently, their sale price is around £34.47 for 2 years, 400+ servers, 5 multi logins better deal then this one.

With regard purchasing, just get a free account with VyprVPN, you pick whichever country you'd like and only need it on for a couple of minutes at a time if that. Loads of people use it for buying Xbox live games from Colombia, Russia, Brazil etc etc.

If you have a bit of patience the BBC will guide you through how to do it yourself, providing you have somewhere back in blightly to put the Raspberry pi with an internet connection it will cost far less than £24 per year in power.

Alternatively if you have a Raspberry pi and a £5 dvb dongle with access to a aerial you might be able to simply stream the content over the internet directly like a slingbox using tvheadend.

I use Kodi to watch TV shows eg Walking dead, tv shows that aren't aired over here and im finding some of the streams are blocked, would a VPN solve this ?

I have nordvpn

It's very slow. 10-15mbps if your lucky

I use Private Internet Access VPN and its around £27-28 ($40) and I think it works brilliantly. They have an ios app, android app, mac app and windows app as well. Works on up to 5 devices and as far as I remember they do a 7 day money back guarantee as well! I haven't tried this one, but at a quick glance it seems quite good! Do have a look at PIA as well though if you are in the market for a VPN service

Yes. So long as the server you're using is eligible for receiving streams by the provider of the streaming services. For example, bbci would work with a British server and Fox or hbo with a USA server. Your vpn provider usually has servers in multiple countries to overcome the challenges you've mentioned

I would say in your case a VPN, smart dns services generally focus on things like video streaming services.

unblock-us.com. Might be a good fit for you, they are a smart dns provider, but offer a vpn service with their subscription which is very reasonably priced. The vpn connection is nothing special, like other offerings, which cater to more privacy/piracy conscious customers, but should be sufficient for what you listed.

Not sure why the mods chose to skipper my post but here it is again in a nutshell

"Post 57 zacsawyer I use Nordvpn but turn it off sometimes cause its so damn slow and the IP addresses are blocked by some sites. Just got my second and third strikes this week. So, I'm fudged. Haven't acknowledged the third one yet, maybe that'll help. I am sure its for an NBC show (Oh, god forbid I download an over the air broadcast show). "

Prefer Overplay!

See Stacksocial for loads of VPN deals and they did have one for Getflix recently

Been with Nord for last 6 months. Solid service with lots of options and end points. As they are based in Panama, they offer an extra level of privacy that cannot be offered in Europe and the US (can't recall the term, circle of 5 or something).
Android app has been 'Coming soon' since I joined, but openvpn is all you really need.
