So, I feel like some people throw around that NordVPN was hacked, without really understanding what happened. Here goes:

A single one of NordVPN's servers, run by a third party in a datacenter in Finland and also used by TorGuard (no-one seems to mention that), was accessed by attackers without authorization. This was done by exploiting a remote access system, the existence of which was unknown to NordVPN themselves, and ultimately the sole responsibility of the datacenter.

Now, any given VPN server serves only two main purposes: firstly, to decrypt incoming traffic which was encrypted by the VPN app on the user's side; and secondly, to forward that traffic along to the actual web service the VPN user was trying to access.

So, since no logs or user data at all were on this server, or any of NordVPN's servers for that matter, the only thing of value that the attacker made off with was the private encryption keys for nordvpn.com and that one Finnish VPN server.

This means that, under the exceptional circumstance that an attacker could position themselves between a single user connected to that specific Finnish server, and the server itself - for example, being on the same public WiFi as them, they could:

1) redirect them to a fake NordVPN.com website that could potentially phish their details, or;
2) decrypt their VPN traffic to snoop on what they're up to (NOT anything already encrypted via HTTPs i.e. banking).

There is no evidence that either of those things ever happened, because such an attack is so focused with such a high effort and low reward, that nobody in their right mind would bother.

Should NordVPN probably have told its customers sooner? Yeah, sure. People have a right to be annoyed about that. Was the hack way overblown? Also yes.

You can decide for yourself if NordVPN is trustworthy or not. I don't use them - I'm just tired of such a minor cyberattack being blown out of proportion.

I think people often select the US instead of the UK in this case. Do at your own risk of course, as potentially there's the chance Quidco wouldn't pay out if you select a non-tax paying tariff.
So how much you pay at the end?

Depends if quidco payout. The money is never guaranteed
66% cash back for all subscriptions on the Quidco app and I’m a Quidco premium member
I was offered $89/ 3 yr subscription.
Went to check out and selected uk as my country. Instantly changed to £ and added vat. Taking it to approx £115 ish.
Switch to U.S and the vat is removed and converts back to $89.
Why do we, in the uk have to pay vat on this when it's not a physical product and isnt shipped into the uk. It's a digital program. So I think it should be vat exempt.
I'm curious to hear your thoughts and explanation of the vat thingy.
Thanks in advance.

Because the EU forces VAT on downloads. Be Interesting to see if we change it once the transition period finishes.
Good luck with getting the cashback

You need to be paying £1pm I think
I have been using NordVpn for a year now but their speeds are really terrible. I don't even use VPN to other countries, I connect to their UK VPN server (to hide my real UK IP address) and it very slow. I have tired other EU servers as well and again terrible....

Not sure if its setting issues on my side but takes ages even to load BBC via their UK VPN servers!
How much does premium account costs on Quidco?
So basically you will get NordVPN for free?

I'm finding the same. I find Ireland's a good UK alternative. But def more hit and miss nowadays.

Sometimes I also see slow connections on their UK servers. Maybe 10% of the time I'm using my computer - when that happens, I switch to Germany which is always fast for me. I just don't stick to Germany all the time because I always get German locale pages.

When the UK servers are ok though, which is most of the time, I get around 250Mbps down and 200Mbps up.
Any luck with USA netflix on Nord. Never got it to work

Can't spend it all "on" the world, that's a large sum of money!

For once I bought something that I need and not the random things posted on this site that I thought I might need somewhere in the future!

Yeah, I got that offer. It tracked and was paid out 2 months ago
Interesting to read the comments about Nord being a bit slow as I've found the same thing, particularly the UK. Frequently have to switch to Ireland. Mobile app seems a bit better though so may be some PC related issues.

Speeds are good for me
Without VPN:

With VPN on connected to UK:

Speeds don't seem to be affected much on my end either - very little difference between on or off.

I'm on BT (currently capped at 66 Mbps) for reference.
Has anyone had their Quidco track? Mine didn’t track twice on two separate transactions. Have tried reaching out to @Quidco_Rep but they have been pretty useless so far.
