Update 3
The offer was live briefly 7th Jan but there were technical issues. Is now live again.
I've received this email from Northern:

Our 10p Flash Sale returns on on Tuesday 7 January. That means you can get your hands on Advance train tickets for just 10p! There are over 180,000 available for travel between 13 Jan-14 Feb and 24-29 Feb, so be quick because once they’re gone, they’re gone.

That's not all either, as kids travel half price, your little ones can go for an even smaller price of just 5p! So, be sure to visit our app or website on Tuesday 7th January 2020 for your chance to grab a bargain.

I bought quite a few tickets the last time they did this.

An absolute shambles of a company. 10p, don’t expect it to show up on time or at all. Can’t wait until they lose the franchise.
Let me guess 10p one way £100 return

There were lots of 10p tickets in both directions last time.
I did some journeys for 20p that would normally cost £20+

Pity the trains don't go like a Flash!
Chanchi3206/01/2020 17:38

Looks like that might be the case

10p to take over the franchise?
Does it start at midnight?

Not when they did it last time. Son at uni in Leeds, went to visit him, 10p each way. RED HOT. Think I will go to a couple of destinations this time. 20p return!!
I managed to go to Blackpool and back (Leeds) for 20p last time. Got to see some family. Was great.
Worth a shot if you can buy the whole outfit for 10p

Unless you have an awful lot of time on your hands and like Rochdale station.
tinca06/01/2020 17:58

And still no chance of a seat

Plenty on the trains I used last time.
Used them last time with no trouble

Just book a 1 way from the other direction too.
Are there normally all different routes or just specific ones?
Had a wonderful journey on one for 20p return in September.
Nottingham to Sheffield ,then a refurbished class 170 to Bridlington.
The journey from York to Blackpool wasn't so great, but that was down to the clients on-board.
All trains ran to time, maybe I was lucky!
Are these the trains they're planning on cancelling?

Loads of destinations, I'm having two or three trips this time.

Specific routes.

Last time it was things like Manchester to Liverpool, Manchester to Leeds, York to Sheffield, Carlisle to Newcastle, Leeds to Blackpool, Nottingham to Leeds etc...
Cracking deal last time...does anyone know when it goes live?
Tomorrow I think, first thing!
Waste of 10p. Very unlikely the train will turn up

I’ve read this and seen this before. Looking forward to it actually happening, fingers crossed.
It’ll be cancelled no doubt or it’ll be that train that looks to have loads of seats but the leg room is literally 5cm so you might as well hope a Pacer turns up with more leg room and the enjoyment of being bounced about.

I don’t think they’re that bad, the timing of this announcement was unfair after the price hikes. Yeah their trains are consistently delayed or cancelled but they seem to have more trains/services compared to a few years ago. Transpennine Express aren’t that great either, their trains are delayed consistently too, although they do have nice Siemens trains.

As did I!

Had a lovely day out with my GF and her two boys for the princely sum of 60p. Looking forward to seeing where we can go tomorrow!
Don't forget that if the service is delayed for an hour, you will get a full refund of the fare you paid.
Last time our trip was late by 60 mins so they sent me 2 adult and 2 children return tickets valid anywhere on Northern rail so going to use them to visit York later this month. Best 40p ever

You don’t think they are that bad? I guess everyone is entitled to their opinion.

Having to use them most days (I actually avoid them where possible and get the Avanti or TFW service through to Manchester) and they are a complete shambles. How on gods earth are they still using pacer trains? Those one with the bus bench seating. Cancellations/delays/staff shortages, it’s an abortion of a company.
